Maybe they're just relaying old news, because the article I just posted said Scott had no comment...?

Notice I said, "Houston has already seen..." Some people may not care but we did have the NFL here for 30 something years before the Texans.
And they are now one of our most hated rivals. We had football way before the Oilers.

Eagles | Team not close on deal with Moulds
Thu, 30 Mar 2006 17:44:11 -0800

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are not close to a deal for Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds, according to a league source. ESPN.com earlier reported that ""the Texans and Eagles appear to have the lead and both teams are expecting quick decisions." The source said the Eagles have not even had any trade discussions with the Bills for Moulds. Eagles head coach Andy Reid admitted interest in Moulds at the NFL owners meetings, saying it was an issue the team was in the process of weighing.

John Clayton of ESPN.com reports that the Buffalo Bills are close to trading Eric Moulds to the Texans or the Eagles. WIP Radio in Philly has reported that Moulds and the Texans have struck a deal as to his contract, which means that the only impediment is an agreement between the Bills and Texans as to the terms of the trade.

Moulds reportedly wants a three-year deal worth $5 million a season, and the Bills reportedly want a fourth-round pick. Both, in our view, are bargains -- especially since the draft does not contain an excessive amount of quality pass-catchers this year.

The Bills have asked Moulds on multiple occasions to take a pay cut, and he has declined. More recently, the team permitted Moulds to set up a trade.

Maybe the thread title should be changed?

That article said they weren't even close. If the Patriots weren't moving fast enough, why would the Eagles be. They probably haven't even started negotiations.

Just heard Chris Landry on Fox Sport Radio. Nothing really new. Texans have the parameters of a contract drawn up that Moulds would agree to. Draft compensation to the Bills is the only issue. The Eagles have an offer in, but he doesn't think it matches the Texans. That could change.

My take on it...

<warning pure speculation> I think the Eagles are fishing to see if they can lowball Moulds because of his expressed interest in going to Philly. Let's call it the "Friend of McNabb" discount. Only Moulds knows how much less he will take to play in Philly.

I don't think the Eagles start seriously talking compensation with the Bills until they have an acceptable offer for Moulds. If the Texans and Eagles both come up with contracts that satisfy E-Mo (sorry) then Buffalo would be able to pick the deal that gave them the most compensation.

Reminds me a little of the Abraham/Jets/Falcons/Seattle fiasco. Seattle had the better draft package, but Abraham wanted the Falcons. The Falcons eventually ponied up a #1.

I think in this one, the Texans hold most of the cards. More $$$ (for now) and a higher potential draft package. (Reports of a 6th rounder from the Eagles are the highest I have heard) I don't think the Eagles will outbid the Texans in either dollars or draft choices. The only wildcard is how much of discount Moulds would take for Philly.

I like our chances.

.....foreshadowing......

.....touchdown......

.....playoffs......

..ok. Touchdown then.......

So we're going to be signing Moulds for less than what Givens signed for??

I don't understand.

Isn't the other fly in the ointment Buffalo. Couldn't they just pay him what he was suppose to get and be done with it.

Yeah, I suppose. But I really don't think they will.

"Obviously, we would much rather have Eric released. But if we can work out a trade, we will. But if not, we're back to square one and Eric won't play for the Bills. He doesn't want to play for them, and he will not play for them."

"Moulds, a 10-year veteran and the Bills' senior player, has two years left on his contract, but was scheduled to count about $10.8 million against the salary cap next year. The Bills deem that figure too expensive but have failed in their bid to have the receiver restructure his contract.

Levy also maintained the team's interest in keeping Moulds, but only if he agrees to a pay cut.

"I still think he has playing ability," Levy said. "But I don't think we can fill all of our other needs with the type of salary cap hit we have to take with him."

Makes me think we could get this done for a 5th. He's getting cut if there is no trade.

The problem is that if he hits the free agent market, the fact that we are probably willing to give up more in a trade than Philly becomes irrelevant. I suspect that if he does get cut, Moulds will likely become an Eagle. I also think he's unlikely to get cut (not that the Bills wouldn't cut him if it got that far, but a trade will happen before it does).

Moulds is 7 years old than givens.

Eric Moulds: 4 year $12mil....... plus a $5mill bonus would be $4.25 mil......

Glenn: 5 years, $20 million..........

Givens: 5 years, $24mil...... $4.8 million.........

I don't see Moulds accepting a deal worth $12 million total...... no way, not when he's got $7.1mil due soon.

Um, according to the following, Casserly stated that an agreement has been reached:

Moulds Dealing With Texans

Last Update: 3/30/2006 7:31:25 PM

Houston, TX (3/30/06) Eric Moulds asked to be traded out of Buffalo and the 10-Year Bills veteran may just get his wish. Houston Texans General Manager Charley Casserly told KTRK television in Houston that a verbal agreement has been reached with Moulds, however, Casserly stressed that there are still "many dots to be connected."

Moulds was expected to get $7.1 million if he stayed in Buffalo this season. Sources tell 13WHAM News that it would be a multi-year deal for Moulds to join the Texans and that Buffalo would receive Houston's 4th or 5th round pick in this April's draft. Those picks would work out to be the 97th or 129th overall.

When contacted by 13WHAM News, Bills Vice President of Communications, Scott Berchtold, said the team had no comment.

http://www.13wham.com/sports/local/story.aspx?content_id=2560805F-19CF-44AC-A921-163A13896494

So that should be the final word on whether or not an agreement between Moulds and the Texans has been reached. Of course, a contract still needs to be signed and a trade needs to be negotiated with the Bills. But there is definitely an agreement of some sort, if only verbal.

He'll never see that $7.1m - the Bills would cut him rather than pay it, and no other team would trade for him unless they had a new deal in place.

And didn't LeCharles Bentley have a verbal agreement in place with the Eagles not so long ago?

Not worth the paper it's printed on . . .

I will verify this but......790 am reports the deal is done - - but no details on picks.
I thought I heard 4 years, 12 mil. Sorry, I'm alittle late. Lol

I agree that he will be traded.

The Texans already have an verbal agreement (alledgedly) with Moulds, so now it is up to compensation talks w/ the Bills or an 11th hour coup by the Iggles.

I think the whole "permission to seek a trade" used when a player refuses to re-do a deal. Give him a chance to see what he is worth on the open market, let him see what his market is. If no one bites, then he may be more willing to rework his deal. If there are takers, the team could work out draft compensation vs. getting nothing in return.

It's more than not having an agreement at all. Casserly's on his way with the paperwork.

Well excuse the **** out of me for not reading thru over a 1000 posts before I post my own, by the time I'd get thru there would be 1000 more.

Don't know if this has already been mentioned (I also am too lazy to look back in this thread), but I was just watching the Access NFL show on the NFL Network and Rich Eisen said that a Philly sports radio station (didn't get the call letters) is reporting that the Texans are in the process of signing Moulds. They are checking on the validity.
