A lot of if's, could've, should've and would'ves in that article. The "IF" fortune telling ability (pointed out in this article) is unrealistic.
[BTW, some decent proof reading as especially in the Heading of the article [SINCE vs SENSE] would be helpful].

Does the Laremy Tunsil trade still make since over 5 years later?
Five years ago the Houston Texans traded for Laremy Tunsil, but was it the right call?

I've reported myself!Just asking as I have been corrected before, is this not the Laramey Tunsil thread?
Where there is a need for grace, let Grace abound!I've reported myself!![]()
It made sense then if you thought Derrick was a top QB. Derrick being Derrick and BOB's inability to develop talent is what caused the fall. The Tunsil trade makes more sense now than it ever has previously.
Trading away that many picks in a Super Bowl-or-bust move where the player you’re adding is meant to keep a QB clean who plays best when the play breaks down doesn’t make any sense. If you then go on to trade away the main talent on your team, meanwhile the mid pack ages and can’t be replaced, that made no sense. To then end up in QB purgatory and have the most expensive LT in the league protecting Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills that also makes no sense.
Now that we have Stroud, sure it makes sense to have a great LT and pay him really well. The draft capitol given up is ancient history and we can build around them. Hell we can even talk of potentially upgrading the position through the draft as Tunsil ages.
It was a terrible move 5 years ago, and was as important in sinking the Texans’ to bottom dwellers with no picks and no cap space as the awful extensions signed for over the hill players or giving away DHop for peanuts.
Now that we’ve weathered that storm, sure, great to have him.
BOB certainly had his faults, but he developed Watson as far as he could...............and has gone.It made sense then if you thought Derrick was a top QB. Derrick being Derrick and BOB's inability to develop talent is what caused the fall.

Grace is Amazing!Who’s Grace?

Is that you Laremy Tunsil?Uh yes, please can we refrain from such off-topic behavior on this here thread. Thank you!
Is that you Laremy Tunsil?
Quote:True.
“False start or a holding penalty would kill drives, even if it was on first down... ridiculous”.
If there was a consensus in your profession by people who had done what you do for say 30 to years said a guy was one of the top 5 in the world and a guy who read about how the job was supposed to be done said no that guy is a g, would you take the guy who did the reading seriously? He is overrated, not underrated. Last time I looked there is both running and passing in football. If I’m really good at half my job, but barely adequate at the other half, I doubt my bosses would say I am among the elite in my company. I also think his finesse style permeates the rest of the line, and like a lowering tide…we’ll you know the rest about all the boats sinking.
Based simply on the importance of pass blocking in modern football…I’ll go top 10 but not top 5. I think the line would improve overall with a true dawg at LT. In the run game, Tunsil is more like one of those mini designer dogs being carried around in a purse. We need a freaking Rottweiler not a French poodle.
I have certainly held that against Tunsil... but I, mostly, got over it at some point last season.I see some people still can't get over the fact that BOB traded for Tunsil and I'm just glad that people that know what they are doing like Caserio, Ryans disagree with you.

Thought I'd give the "angry like" a try... it looks pretty good.
The fact that our primary run style is outside zone lends itself to more mobile tackles. Short of having the #1 (99 Madden rated) left tackle who can do no wrong, in this system you always fail to pass-blocking/more athletic tackle rather than the stronger, drive-blocking tackle, who could be beat around the edge.
I agree fully that the lack of talent at LG has had a negative effect on his run blocking. Having consistency across the line creates the cut-back lanes in the the ZBS that leads to big/reliable runs. If you think back to the dominant Arian Foster days, we not only had solid talent across the board, but health to keep them playing together. For me, it's clear that Tunsil is a step ahead of Duane Brown in terms of overall talent.
Yes, it's a fact that this is your opinion.I’d take peak Duane Brown over LT all day every day. And that’s the facts Jack!
Yes, it's a fact that this is your opinion.
Who has played next to him at LG the last 3 years? Do you think any run game would be successful with who has been playing at LG and C rhe last 3 years?DB was a much better run blocker than LT. When is the last time LT pancaked someone? Like ever? Once?
He basically just tries to get in someone's way. He's not physical at the point of attack, and guys can easily stand him up. He gets no push at all.
Of course Foster was better than anything we've had at RB since then...but Foster wasn't running behind a bad line and specifically a poor run-blocking LT either.
Foster would not be as successful behind LT as opposed to DB. I think that's very very clear.
LT is being paid to be elite. That's not elite in one attribute. It's elite across the board.
Yes, he's an elite mover with great feet. Very impressive athlete. He can wall off guys very, very well.
I am not knocking his prowess as a pass blocker. But I'll say it again - football teams run and pass, right?
I think that Green is going to be much improved and either Scruggs or Patterson will be an upgrade at center. This wii be the 1st time since Tunsil has been here that he will have above avg talent around him and we'll finally get to see Tunsil at his best with better talent around him. Since you've been watching football for 50 years you know that collective talent on the ol is very important to having a good ol. The Texans have had crap for talent on the ol for the last 4-5 years.LOL, I think my mental state is just fine. I'm not a hater per se. Yes, the trade and the amount given up in both picks and money were too much for an imperfect, lopsided tackle, and that weighs on my opinion some but it's not his fault OB was an idiot.
He's a 9.5 in pass blocking, and maybe a 4.5 or 5 at run blocking. He's not awful...but average if I give him a little grace due to his finesse play style. He's never going to be a physical monster or a road grader. DB wasn't either but somehow managed to be a pretty good run blocker, whereas I just don't see it with LT. All of the above noted I am not an OL expert so take with grains of salt. Just been watching football for 50 years.
As I said up thread, I think he's a top-10 LT. Just not top 3. But still...he's a darn good player that does a dynamite job protecting CJ (or JC as Badboy often calls him), and I'm glad he's healing up. We need him at his best in 2024. Have a good one SB!
I think played well in the run game, bad leg or not.I think he played very well in both phases of the game last year
emphasis mine.DB was a much better run blocker than LT.
Tunsil has 3 years left on his deal. The timing couldn’t be better for a real Tunsil evaluation since his contract discussions will be just around the corner.
Tunsil has 3 years left on his deal.
Zone blocking is more about footwork and positioning than raw power. That should be right up Tunsil's alley. But the most important aspect is repetition. The actions of the offensive line should not allow the defense to key on run or pass. This will be Laremy's 2nd year in the system. i expect 2024 to be much better than 2023 in terms of offensive line performance. 2025 should be even better. He’s going to finally have an IOL to lean on….will this be what he’s needed to get his run blocking to above average?
