Let's draft another Carr...

Made you click...with last year's redzone struggles a big WR target in the endzone should help our conversions inside the 20's. I like Gregg Carr out of Florida State as a day 2 pick. He is 6'5" (would be the tallest WR on the team) and played 4 years in a good conference, the ACC hasn't been great. I think two major weaknesses that played a huge role in our offense last year were turnovers and converting in the redzone. I think if we can get Carr in the 4th round he should offer Schaub another weapon. I think another big WR would be Patrick Turner, I think he will be around after Carr.

The guy that would be sweet to get is Ramses Barden from Cal Poly, dude is huge 6'6" 229 lbs and is compared to Marques Colston. His biggest knocks are that he played against weaker competition and his speed, but an added bonus is that he has NEVER fumbled. He may be there in the 4th, but I would take him in the 3rd if he is still there.

What do you think about our redzone issues, how can we solve them? How much of a need is WR? What would you think about another Carr being on the roster?

I think that part of our red zone problems came from Kubiak trying too hard. I don't know if Shanahan's play calling in the red zone is going to fix our problems although it looked pretty good in the Bears game... but I think a huge part of our problem was just not calling the right plays. Just not calling plays to take full advantage of AJ and OD.

I'm going to go out on the line here and say something that some people may not agree with.

Are you ready?

I think our problem in the red zone is that our defense sucks. Schaub (and Sage) weren't practicing the red zone offense against a defense that closed up holes in coverage with athleticism. Because of this, they made the decision that they could stick a pass in to a receiver because during practice, they WERE able to make that throw... because our defense sucked. Against decent defenses, those windows were smaller or non-existent.

I also think that improving the interior of our line would improve our run game close to the goal line. Lots of times our run plays would get blown up by penetration in the middle.

To be fair, during practice the offense should be practicing with 11 players while the defense should be allowed to have an extra DB. This may help out and during games, our WRs would look a lot more open. :smiliedance:

Good take...a view that most wouldn't take...do you think it's the same for the opposite? Say your defense is too good and there are no windows in practice, so they don't even try to make the throws in the game due to lack of confidence? I agree with an upgrade to the inside of the line.

I don't know. I just had that thought while reading your post. But yeah, I think that who you practice against determines what you're going to expect to work. And it should work both ways.

Carr is terrible. He has hands to rival Bruner. He has no body control and is just a loaf running all over. Stay away.

Thats not his fault. If Nike would make a decent pair of gloves he would be able to catch better.

Maybe he just needs time for his OLine to gell.

Redzone issues?

Lack of playaction on 1st and Goal.
Gay little run up the middle.
Turnovers.

How to fix?

Playaction on 1st
Toss that damn run play away
Stop turning the ball over

Armchair HC is easy...
