Joe Texan Hangs It Up X 2

CloakNNNdagger

Hall of Fame
I was listening to Radio 610 at about 5:45 pm when I heard one (I don’t know one from the other, I think it was Rich Lord) of the two announcers being as disrespectful to one of our own as I’ve ever heard....comments directed about Joe Texan. No matter what you think of Joe, one thing you can’t deny..........he breathes and lives and works hard for our beloved Texans. The announcer belittled Joe’s plaque hanging in the Hall of Fame. If that wasn’t enough, he made belittling sarcastic comments about Joe’s drinking habits, after Joe told him he doesn’t drink. Joe put out a great deal of effort for the aforementioned honor. And as for the latter, unless things have just again recently changed, Joe has indeed chosen to now appreciate life and have fun without the help of alcohol. A disgusting display of an announcer who is so full of himself that he fails to occasionally look at himself in the mirror.............for someone who the only thing he has a chance of hanging at the Hall of fame is in the coatroom.

Sorry to hear that.

Congrats Joe on the ability to enjoy life and have fun without drinking. That is a huge challenge for a lot of people and I am sure it isn't easy with it being all around you (during tailgating, events, etc). It can definitely take a negative toll on your health. Someone mentioned to me a couple of weeks ago that you decided to not drink anymore. I admire you for that.

610 is still on the air?? I haven't listened to that station in over a year.

Rich Lord is a douchebag. I don't know why he doesn't follow his true love and get him a radio gig in Nashville.

Rich Lord is a dumbarse...always has been. I missed that call but did catch him saying that Alex Van Halen plays bass for VH.

Why he is still on the air is beyond me.

P.S. Bruce Springsteen sucks!

I really admire Joe for making the choice awhile back. It's not something that comes easy I'm certain.

As for Rich Lord...if he's all that 610 has left to offer, I won't be tuning in anytime soon. I'm glad I didn't hear the show...my car might have started driving itself to the station. :texflag:

We have your back, Joe. :fans:

I can relate to your efforts with alcohol, it's a daily thing for a lot of us. You have my complete and utter respect.

Okay I know of Joe Texans on this site. Cool guy! However, does he have some sort of personality of a fan outside of this site where people know him?

So, he was on the radio station today, and they blasted him? Why?

It's not nearly as bad as some are making it sound.

Here's what actually happened.

Joe called the station and said that Rich Lord needed to stop drinking, because Rich said something about how the Texans could have easily finished 7-9 last season because of the Jacksonville game where the Jaguars had nothing to play for... which is actually true. It could have easily been a different outcome had the Jags needed the win for a playoff spot.

Anyway, Rich then said that Joe was the one who sounded drunk. Rich of course has ZERO knowledge of Joe's battles with alcohol (nor do I) - he was simply saying back to the person that accused HIM of being drunk - that Joe was the one who sounded drunk on the radio.

After that, Rich belittled the Hall of Fame plaque, which he didn't know about, and again - nor did I. He basically said the plaque wasn't a big deal, but in that smarmy way that he says things.

I think you guys are severly overreacting. I don't even think Joe would be mad at Rich. It was just kind of a weird exchange, and nobody brought up being drunk but Joe himself. Is Rich supposed to know to the history of TexansTalk.com message board posters?

You can call me names all you want, but that's what happened.

I don't know, but tomorrow I might hop over to their website and see if I can hear the show. I suspect they might be getting calls on Joe's behalf. :texflag: :kingkong:

Thanks for the explanation, but Rich Lord is still an asshat.

my wife and I sent an email discussing the outrageous accusations or should I say slander that was shown during their radio broadcast. I'll be listening and waiting to hear the apology tommorow. What time is the show broadcasting?

Names! :specnatz:

Seriously, thanks for the post. We in Austin aren't exactly hip to what's happening and it did sound bad until your explanation. :tiphat:

No problem! I'm in Austin too... I was listening via iTunes.

Thanks for the explanation, but Rich Lord is still an asshat.

I'm in no way refuting that... but in this case, his biggest crime was belittling the HoF plaque, not making light of any sort of drinking issue.

Omigod it was SO not slander! See my explanation above. You guys are just going to embarrass the message board if you flood 610 with a bunch of emails overreacting about this.

Joe don't listen to those idiots, they are just jealous. Congrats on the alcohol free life, stick with it and take it "One day at a time"

Rich Lord has made statements in the past about Joe and his drinking. He had asked them to stop and they have ignored him.

I don't know why he called them back. Who would have guessed that Rich Lord was still on the air?

Maybe Joe should have said he was on drugs.

I am not sure what 610 would gain from putting down a Texans Ultimate Fan, a Hall Of Fame honored one at that, for any reason. It seems that as a station that carries the Texans games and takes in a lot of money doing so, they would sing praises. It also seems that Rich Lord is still employed by the Texans and he would see the devotion and passion that Joe exudes on an everyday basis is a benefit to his show and the Texans. His continued trashing of Joe Texan is further proof that he is either jealous or he must have done some bad acid during one of his weird roadie-like Springsteen exursions and never quite recovered.

Joe has done a lot for under-priveleged children and has helped raise a lot of money for various charities in the past. He continues to try to devise more ways of helping people in their struggles and would give the jersey off his back if Rich Lord or anyone who needed it. We shouldn't feel sorry for Joe...he will be fine but I think we should let Rich Lord know how we feel and how his continued bashing of Joe is getting older and harder to bear than his Springsteen stories.

I know Rich can't know about every fans struggles but I still intend to e-mail him to let him know my thoughts and to ask him to tone it down again. Here is his e-mail if you decide to do so as well.

I hate to tell you, but Joe's comment of Lord being drunk was in the context like "what are you doing, drinking Kool Aid." He wasn't seriously accusing Lord of being drunk. Lord, is very familiar with Joe Texan and his past "habits during tailgaiting and games." When Joe replied "I don't drink."
Lord came back "SURE, he doesn't drink." Lord's intentions were indisputably
foul..

Only met Joe 1 or 2 times, a great guy....

Rich Lord in MHO is nothing worth listening to...but I did just send him an email telling him that.

Joe is a good man. Took me in as a Pittsburgh convert and I never looked back. If we all had as much passion as the guy, and love for th city, we could really be an awesome fan base. I'm happy for his life change and will continue to keep him in my prayers. Love that guy!:photos:

Rich Lord is, was and will always be the perennium of Houston sports talk radio... PERIOD. He is a carpet bagging, New York punk ass beyotch.

Joe, I know you don't read posts (given our many phone conversations where you have no idea what I'm talking about) but I applaud you for not drinking and moreover thanks for being a great fan - and FRIEND!!

PS. Rich Lord is Ghey!!!

I like MANY of us on this message board, know, love and appreciate Joe. I'll always stand behind him he's a great person with a huge heart.

Rich Lord looks like he's been road hard and put away wet himself, casting stones when you live in a glass house isn't right.

I don't know Joe Texan or Rich Lord, but radio announcers always try to stir up people by poking fun where they can.

Theres a difference between aggression and playful teasing. Obviously I can't tell since I don't live in Htown and cant here the exchange, but insulting listeners is something I think almost every radio announcer I've ever heard does. Has anyone ever listened to the Rome show?

Huge difference here. Rich Lord has done this before to Joe. Lord is an arrogant, pompous dolt. When Rome makes fun of people, it's usually in good humor, with the d-bag Rich Lord it can be mean-spirited...

I know exactly what the context was. Of COURSE Joe didn't literally mean Rich was drinking. You don't think I knew that? In the same way, Rich wasn't calling Joe an alcoholic. He was just returning fire back at him! Rich Lord has no idea who Joe is. He hosts a radio show in Houston and has for years. He doesn't remember every person he's talked to or about over the years. There wasn't any malicious intent at all - he was just calling someone drunk who first called him drunk. God you guys make it sound like Rich Lord has some sort of agenda to personally attack a guy that he doesn't know. Even if he DOES know that Joe has a history with booze, he was just taking a jab. He wasn't saying "listen here - this guy is a longtime drunk and he's still a no good longtime drunk! Don't believe him when he says he doesn't drink anymore! He's a liar and an alcoholic!" It's just not the same thing.

The plaque thing - that's something else. He did belittle it, no doubt. But to make this about the alcohol thing is a HUGE overreaction and you're making something out of nothing.

If Joe had instead said that Rich sounded like he was smoking crack, Rich would have said "YOU sound like YOU'RE smoking crack!" If he would have said Rich sounds like an *****, Rich would have said "YOU are the one that sounds like an *****."

Haaaarrrgh. I hate that I'm forced to come off like I'm a LordLover... which I'm not. Hell - I'm the one that emailed yesterday to argue with him over how the Texans also had a lot of starters out in that Jacksonville game that started this whole thing - but he wasn't trying to assassinate Joe's character.

Exactly. Way more succinct and to the point of what I'm trying to say. It's not the radio guy's jobs to coddle every caller's personal issues. He was stirring the pot - that's what these guys do.

He knows exactly who Joe Texan is........and the latter of the scenarios was exactly in a nutshell what he was inferring. The words were not to defend his own position, they were a direct character assasination. Lord evidently has real unaddressed control issues.

I see that a few of you are saying that Rich knows Joe from over the years. I didn't know that - but still - this was just some ribbing/teasing. Not some vicious assault.

I would accept that from 99% of the radio hosts here in town BUT not Rich Lord... As stated before, he is a pompous, self-righteous, carpet bagging dolt. PERIOD!

Besides, he knows who Joe is, the same way Matt Jackson, Marc Vandameer, Granato and Lance Z, etc., know who he is....

Yeah, I clearly was wrong about how much Rich knows who Joe is - but that really doesn't change anything to me. Direct character assassination? That seems a bit severe, but whatever. I don't know Rich and I don't know Joe and honestly I don't give a rat's ass one way or the other... I'm just typing what I heard, without any emotional attachment to Joe or Rich or anyone else.

Well why all of you guys are arguing about this, why don't we hear from Joe Texan on this and see what his thoughts are as to what happened?

Joe puts himself out there so he gathers quite a bit of attention. When you get attention you don't always get positive attention....it comes with putting yourself out there. That said, congrats to Joe for stopping the drinking. I'm happy and proud of him for that.

True, but Joe has asked several times that the station NOT talk about him that way. He let them know that he has a business with that name as well.

If Rich Lord had some marital or health problems, I don't think anyone would be making fun of him....much less on a radio station.

Alcoholism is a disease and is not a funny issue, especially if someone (Rich) knows about a problem and mocks them on air.

I'm sure Rich has read this board and Joe hasn't been afraid to voice his opinion regardless of who it was hurting....stuff works both ways you know. If you dish it, someone will finally dish it back. I'm not a Lord fan so I'm not taking his side on this one since he should have kept his mouth shut when it gets personal (as far as an on-air personality goes). imo of course.

Thats a good point. Just because this isn't radio, doesn't mean that the "slander" thrown around on the boards against Rich doesn't affect his career too

Slander?? Seriously gtexan, but Rich Lord what he deserves from his detractors...

slander

A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community. Because slander is a tort (a civil wrong), the injured person can bring a lawsuit against the person who made the false statement. If the statement is made via broadcast media -- for example, over the radio or on TV -- it is considered libel, rather than slander, because the statement has the potential to reach a very wide audience.

Well why all of you guys are arguing about this, why don't we hear from Joe Texan on this and see what his thoughts are as to what happened?

I just saw Joe at the training camp and mentioned this thread to him. He laughed and I told him the posters here had his back. He is on his way to Canton, OH today and isn't too worried about what Rich Lord is saying about him.

It's not nearly as bad as some are making it sound.

Here's what actually happened.

You can call me names all you want, but that's what happened.

Yeah, I gotta agree that the Texans could have easily gone 7-9. Take away those two kick-off returns for TDs against JAX and you have a very different game. On the topic of the Texans and this season's expectations, this is the first year I cannot predict anything with some degree of confidence. I can see the Texans going 5-11 to 12-4. Maybe we'll see something in the preseason to better predict?

On the topic of Joe Texan. I met him once in Oakland a couple years ago for the Texans/Raiders game. Definitely a cool guy but can sling out the zingers. You start something or subject, you got to be prepared to have it thrown back at you. So if Joe Texan brought up the drinking comment first, then the response is fair game.

Another point, which I think somebody already said, you put yourself out there, stuff like this happens.

Kat and I are about to get on the plane on our way to Canton. I will share your veiws with Joe at the airport and pass along the support.

While I am at the Hall of Fame I will take my picture next to Joe's plaque so I can send it to Rich.

We are gonna have a blast!!

Classic move !!!

Honestly, I've seen more heated exchanges between Joe and others in the NSZ...but I suppose that's the case about keeping things 'in family' as opposed to some outsider yanking chains.

But both Joe and Rich are big boys and can take whatever is dished out, as they give it as easily as they receive it.

I enjoyed meeting Joe at an All Access a couple of years ago (even though he still won't accept my friend's request! ;) ), and Rich Lord has never bothered me when compared to some of the other radio personalities in our city.

Glad to hear that Joe has quit the fire water, though. That's the best part of this thread! :thumbup

Hello all,

The thing I must first do is thank all who have sent support my way as it is greatly appreciated.

I have had several confrontations with 610 and all have been about them trying to belittle me and saying I am drinking. I have warned them to watch what they say but they do not and that is why they are you know just 610 radio. They could use a little professionalism but I am sure they do not know what that is. I will be talking with the radio station but that is my business.

Meanwhile I am in Sandusky, Ohio, at a friends house who also has a plack(SP) in the Hall and is a Browns fan, I will be returning to this house when our Texans come to clinch the playoff birth by beating the Browns in Brownie Stadium, I will be sitting in the dog Pound.

I leave tommorow to Canton for a weekend with all of my friends at the PFUFA. That is the group that I belong to and the group that I got Ted and Billy into this year. We will get up early saturday and board the 12th man float for the Hall of Fame Parade, 5th largest parade in america. after which we throw a tailgate for children, we are expecting 500 children this year. After which we will have our own tailgate and enjoy each others company.
Sunday we will go tailgate before the Hall of Fame game. We will return on Monday so Rich can put that in his pipe and smoke it, or his cup and drink it.

I know you guys and Gals have my back and I truly am touched to see how yall came out to help me. Thank you to each and every one of you for your support.

Glad you all made it safe :diapher: . How much did you end up raising for the children that you will be donating from the Texans fanbase?:texflag: We want a ton of pictures of the contribution and all the others especially Kat's toes because I have already seen Tedc's :scarygirl:
