Joe Texan Hangs It Up X 2

Hello all,

The thing I must first do is thank all who have sent support my way as it is greatly appreciated.

I have had several confrontations with 610 and all have been about them trying to belittle me and saying I am drinking. I have warned them to watch what they say but they do not and that is why they are you know just 610 radio. They could use a little professionalism but I am sure they do not know what that is. I will be talking with the radio station but that is my business.

Meanwhile I am in Sandusky, Ohio, at a friends house who also has a plack(SP) in the Hall and is a Browns fan, I will be returning to this house when our Texans come to clinch the playoff birth by beating the Browns in Brownie Stadium, I will be sitting in the dog Pound.

I leave tommorow to Canton for a weekend with all of my friends at the PFUFA. That is the group that I belong to and the group that I got Ted and Billy into this year. We will get up early saturday and board the 12th man float for the Hall of Fame Parade, 5th largest parade in america. after which we throw a tailgate for children, we are expecting 500 children this year. After which we will have our own tailgate and enjoy each others company.
Sunday we will go tailgate before the Hall of Fame game. We will return on Monday so Rich can put that in his pipe and smoke it, or his cup and drink it.

I know you guys and Gals have my back and I truly am touched to see how yall came out to help me. Thank you to each and every one of you for your support.

Have a blast man, and show those guys who has the best brisket in the world!!

Its not like Rich Lord being wrong is out of character! I am a long time sports talk fan and listen to more than my fair share in cities around the nation and I rarely here hosts butcher the facts of any sport like Rich. He often times has no idea a player has left a team and moved on or even retired. That may be ok for the common fan but for a guy who maskes hos living talking sports I would expect more.

He is a HACK!

Okay, well - I know I'm the bad guy here, but I don't really see how upset you can be with 610, Joe, when #1 - you placed the call and, #2 - you called him drunk before he ever put it back on you.

If you've had such a long and acrimonious history with 610, why did you call and immediately bring up drinking before they did? Sounds like you were looking for a fight, to me. When you do that, seems like you should have thicker skin and not be so outraged since all the guy did was repeat back to you what you said to him. Just my two cents.

Anyway, I'm not personally attacking you - I don't even know you... but I heard the "incident" and I don't buy that you were somehow victimized.

Have fun in Canton - I know it sounds like I'm being a jerk, but it is pretty cool that you have a plaque in the Hall. I'd be there every year too, that's pretty awesome. Honestly, have a good time.

I'm still trying to figure out why you're keeping at this, man!

You have stated your case, and you asked Joe to state his case, and so he did!

You said you ain't sure of either side, just wanting to be in the middle.
And now you come back and change the tone.
Sounds to me like you're looking for a fight (see how it works?)
Because I really don't want to attack you personally either!

Sorry, but you're doing the same thing you said the other person shouldnt be doing.

And as well you said, you throw something out, you get it back.

Now, whatever I say here is only YOUR two cents.
I hardly know Joe enough, nor do I know you.

I just read about the "incident", and I don't buy that you're a bystander seeking for truth. (I'm still repeating you here.)

And definitely by now, you'd think that I'm over-reacting, hey, it's just swell in your book. Uhmm, can I say that you are over-reacting?

You keep on saying that peeps should chill down, or didn't you?
What I want to know!

To answer your question - I'm not really sure why I'm still on it. I know it's a losing battle... I just didn't see any victimization there. I guess I was hoping JT would come in and say something like "thanks for all the positive thoughts guys, but it's not really a big deal."

I'm not a "bystander seeking for truth." I just think you guys are making a mountain out of a molehill, as my mom used to say. It's not like I'm angry or anything... just callin' it like I see it. It won't be the first or the last time that I'm virtually alone in my opinion. :D

Joe, make sure you keep Kat and Ted out of trouble. You know Kat... she can be a wild one. And that Ted, just nuts.... Last, make sure Billy wears jeans under his chaps......... Please... ;)

Have fun - as usual!

As far as Rich goes, I will shoot him Double Rods (real double rods) whenever I stop by their booth outside Reliant in 8 days.

Who the F still listens to 610 with 1560 around?

My current schedule only allows me to listen a couple of hours a day, and so far the afternoon show on 1560 hasn't grabbed me.

Also, since camp started, they've been on location at training camp, so that keeps them talking almost 100% Texans football (until the Artest trade).

I do much prefer the 1560 morning show, but right now I'm not able to listen to it because of how my stupid day is structured. Plus - since I'm in Austin, everything depends on the quality of the stream, and both of them have their issues.

I listened to 610 certainly for the first time in it's current form the day after this thread got going and I see what you mean. Those guys don't shut up!! I know it's their job being on the radio, but there is such a thing as talking too much if one chooses the unnecessary path.

I mean, when they are making a point and they seem to stumble upon factoid after factoid that must be included to impress as they speak and you feel like you are listening to Rosanne Rosanna Danna, only this time you are not amused.

One caller began and unknowingly ended his call with, "Quick question and I'll hang up and listen."

1560 might not be all sports all the time ad nausem, but they have fun and they do know what they're talking about on sports (if you just ignore Richard Justice's presence). For all things football, I think Lance Z. is the best in town. They always have good guests. The only thing 610 is good for is Jim Rome, and he sounds like a broken record more often than not.

I agree on Lance Z. By far the best in Houston. I wish they would save their shows as podcasts so I can listen when I'm able to.

1560's signal is crap. What little I have been able to hear, none of their programming interests me at all. I'd rather hear the blather of national sports talk radio than the rejects* at 1560 (even more so now that I've learned that Dick Justice has found a home over there). JMO

*with the exception of LZ. He's cool. Just wish he had his own show on a stronger station.

When 1560 added Richard Jerkice, I changed the dial. Never cared much for 610, to much crap talk. 790s ok, but not enough football talk. As for radio, we are scre*ed!!! I pretty much channel hop.

I am sorry to hear this happened to Joe. I just sent the following letter to Rich in support of Joe and all he has/is doing... I hope others will look to Joe with a sense of pride as well!!!

Subject: Input on comment over 610 Radio

Rich,

I just heard about comments that had been made regarding one of my friends and a fellow Blue Crew Tailgater (Joe Texan) that you had made over the radio. I don’t know what has influenced your thoughts and views of Joe, but I would hope you are open to other views and perspectives on him from other people.

I have known Joe since the first Texans game, and I will admit that I had my own mixed feelings about him at first. Then I got to know Joe as a person.

Over the years, Joe has had his ups and downs, and I know (as well as others) that he had his down moments especially when alcohol was involved, and yes, that lead him to get on some people’s nerves as well. I know this too… I am not making any excuses for the guy. These are the facts.

My first impressions of Joe was a loud-mouth ***** who might have had some screws loose and drank too much. But I do admit that I did enjoy meeting someone who had no problems supporting this Houston team. That was the first positive thing I observed about him. Then I got to know Joe away from the alcohol, and got to know him as a person. The way he volunteered every Christmas to help assemble bikes for kids in need, going to Canton, Ohio and handing out all kinds of toys to the kids there, as well as many other activities he has participated in.

I found out that Joe has a great BIG heart and cares for his fellow fans and friends. I know there were times he had consumed more alcohol than he needed to (heck, almost everyone I know has been through this, including myself has done this), but I have to let you know that the alcohol element is no longer a factor with him. As of December, Joe has made the decision to stop drinking, and hasn’t touched anything since then. I don’t care who you are, but that is a hard thing to do, and that has increased my respect for Joe.

I don’t know if this will change your thoughts or views of the guy, but I am asking that you give him a break and help support his decision to be a better person and a better fan for our Houston Texans.

I own my own successful business, which requires me to be presentable to everyone I meet, as well as the people/friends I am around. I am proud to have Joe Texan as one of my friends.

I try to be friends with everyone, and I try to look at everyone as a good person until they prove to me they are not so good. Why? Because I know that is the right thing to do.

Please at least give him a chance to show what he is capable of doing.

Thank you!

I have been there done that too....really stoopid stuff.....more than once. We all have bad days from time to time.

If you never have, feel free to pile on then.

2008 season starts Saturday...don't let this thread die.:mshadows:

I am very proud of Joe for keeping up the good work. His willingness to help others has never been questioned.

Rich Lord talks about things he doesn't know far too often.

Why won't this thread die??

I have got to meet Joe many times over the past couple of years. He would come into the store I worked at on occasion to buy supplies for his business. We always talked Texans and I thought he was a cool guy. I don't know Rich Lord personally, but I don't listen to his show because it is very sub-par to me. I mean, he's a freaking Giants fan! And his sidekick is a 9ers honk! What are they doing on the radio in Houston? I hate listening to radio guys who don't support the local teams (although, Matt Jackson is a Rockets fan). Anyway, Rich Lord is an a-hole if he said those things about Joe, especially if the guy has changed his life and is not drinking anymore. That's phenomonal! Ignore fat blowhards like Rich Lord. Better yet, change over to the Sean & John show on 1560. Those guys are insane!

This thread keeps popping up

I am fine with Rich and Have never been angry with any of the Talk show people except John McClain, I have since gotten to know John a lot better than I did and we have created a great friendship over my dislike for his love of the Teetons. This is all of my business and I do not need to explain to any of you but as I have already said I am very touched at the support I have recieved from a lot of you. Since it is such a shock to everyone I will state:

I quit Drinking because I am Joe Texan the #1 Texan Fan and not Joe Texan the guy who always drinks. I do not make a very good role model for all the kids I see with a beer in my hand. I am committed to being the #1 Texans fan untill I can no longer walk through the doors at Reliant or any other stadium in the future. Heck My tombstone will be a Texans Logo.
I look foreward to each and every game and am committed to arriving early and leaving late. I invite each and every one of you to come out to B-2 in the Platinum lot to meet me, eat good, and join me inside for some good football. The Piniata is alway a fun experience.

DiehardChris I have nothing against you or your questions, I respect the fact that you are as diehard a fan as I am.
I have many people on this board who know me very well and I especially appreciate thier respect and support.

Go Texans
