Joe Mixon: “Nick Caserio is currently working on something BIG!”

View attachment 15154
Just saw this while on the toilet. What might that entail? New OC? Big name free agent? NFL Draft trade? I’m actually excited for draft night. Nick Caserio is a great GM!
Mixon has been a good back for us but I'm concerned that our GM is putting together a
contract extentionfor Mixon, now almost 29, would seem ill advised.

No way in hell does Mixon know a thing. Nick and Meco don’t even know. The season ended two days ago. He’s just spitballing and BS’ing. End thread.

It's click bait nothing else.. **** doesn't get rolling until after the owner's/league meetings. Nick doesn't even know what he's going to do right now.

Here's the actual video of Mixon saying the quote in full context and it just comes off like he's saying he's got full faith that Nick is gonna cook something up this offseason to seriously improve the team. It doesn't seem anymore 'insider' than that.

I am going to play along knowing that legal tampering does not start until March...Mixon is familiar with the Bengals and a key Bengals free agent is Tee Higgins...:gotexans1:texans::koolaid:

Cannot be a trade until after March 25th with the start of the new NFL year. Perhaps since Mixon is saying it, he is getting a raise?
I want to clarify my statement. Teams can make trades they just do not become official until the NFL approves them after July 25th. So actually, Nick could have an agreement with another team verbally and then have it approved by the NFL commission in the new year.

I wouldn’t go that far.

I think he’s remembering the conversation he & Nick & Cap had to bring him to Houston & work out his extension. I think he’s just saying he believes Nick is serious about bringing a championship to Houston. Nick believes in the work he’s doing & he’s going to take the next step.

How do you know what the general manager and head coach are thinking or planning? Not being sarcastic.

Maybe he is friends with Higgins and he will be a Texan next year.... It has to be someone he knows or something like that to have inside info. Then again he could just be bored and wanting to stir the pot.

It’s just an aspirational statement guys. He doesn’t know crap. If you think that the GM went to the RB two days after the season ended and says something like this, I have a bridge for sale in the Mojave.…pssst, Joe come here. this is a big secret and I’m only telling you but we already have a deal in place to bring in Tee. Just don’t tell CJ ok because he is a blabbermouth.

That's my read. He probably thinks highly of Caserio as a GM, and feels that he will make moves to improve things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Could Nick have said "Hey Joe, psst come here. You know I can't talk directly to Tee Higgins but as you are his friend you can encourage him that I am willing to give him a deal. Now keep it quiet because we don't want to get accused of tampering. Joe! I said keep it quiet! Dad gummit.

Just remember, when you're chasing rabbits, you might not find nothing at all. Go ask Joe when he's 10 feet tall.

IF Slow being gone were what he referred to it makes me think the Texans already have their guy and have an agreement. Simply waiting for time to pass to avoid "tampering". IF so, then I would think that the guy they are bringing in is huge news.

Letting go of an OC thats had an underwhelming offensive showing isnt IMO "fireworks".

Firing an OC that failed expectations isnt even "something big" its more "to be expected."

There's no tampering unless it's someone currently under contract they didn't ask permission to talk to.

Why wouldn't they ask permission?

I know, but its the Texans.

Maybe they subscribe to my mindset. Ask forgiveness... not permission cause maybe they knew it likely to be a "no".

Id assume if "its BIG" or "fireworks" it would be someone nobody wants to lose.

Thats IF he was referring to the OC position that is.

Texans are strapped for cash under the cap, mostly thanks to the o-line. Howard 26 mil, Tunsil 28 mil, I forget Mason’s but it’s a lot. And if these guys are cut, the charge on the cap is almost as much as the salary.

Guys, they are stuck. They don’t have the $$$ to go after bigname FA’s. Higgins ain’t happening.

I don’t see big changes to the line either. Maybe a middling interior guy in FA that might start, and another middle of the draft to develop.

The improvement is going to have to come from better coaching, better play design, and calling plays that get the ball out of CJ’s hands faster more often.

And Fisher’s continued development and the draft.
