Jerome Mathis on sidelines after Brown missed kick

You can see Carr in a daze but Mathis is laughing his butt off. Anyone see that? I'm sorry I like Mathis but we do not need this type of attitude on the sidelines.

This year is going so bad you cant help but laugh. Really...

Agree'd , not a whole lot they can do other than lugh and wait for next week ... I mean how many more ways can they find to lose ?

It was probably one of those desperation laughs when you suddenly loose your masters theis or end up costing your company 12 million dollars. The kind of laugh that comes from an unbelivable screw up.

He was probably laughing because, for the second time this season he pulled us away from the grasp of defeat only to see another player squander a "slam dunk" situation.

Lets face it, at this point it is kind of funny. It is almost amazing how this team can be so close to victory and walk away with the losses.

Maybe I missed something but I didn't see him laughing. I saw him pull the ski beenie under his chin and look the other way.

I APPLAUD him if he laughed.

And I'm talking about the stand-up-and-smack-your-hands-together-as-hard-as-you-can type of applause.

How can you judge this guy for laughing when HE has been the only player outside of Dunta Robinson and Domanick Davis who has lifted this team on his shoulders and at least provided some ray of sunshine during this MISERABLE season?

Sure as heck-a-dee-doodle beats Carr and his puppy dog face. Gimme a break...

Mathis thought during the laugh....."what the ******* I just break a fifty yard kick off return which would of been a touchdown almost get my neck broke to put the team in a game tying postion....I pretty much threw that d***bag a alley which he could of politely tiped in and he misses it hahaha" -Jerome Mathis
whew it kinda has me laughin

I was giggling for a good few minutes after that last kick.. and it wasnt cause i was happy.. it was because we had the game lost.. but that wasnt good enough.. we had to go down to the 15 yard line and shank a kick like nobodies business. It was like fate decided that a close loss wasnt good enough.. it had the be excruciatingly close. It was hilarious.

I dont blame him for laughing.. had i been on the sideline id have been busting a gut.

Whoa, whoa. Mathis may be in a small crowd, but he isn't doing THAT much to win games. Dropping balls that hit him in the hands, muffing punts, and giving up yards on his reversals haven't exactly made him awesome in the past couple of weeks. Look, I love this guy's skills and his heart, but to say that he's doing more to help this team than anyone else is just wrong.

Maybe it's a maniacal laughter...a laughter of the insane. 1-12 is sure something to test your grip on reality.

I don't blame him. This season is a joke. Maybe Mathis just got the punchline. idonno:

He dropped one pass.

What did you want him to do cry? I'm sure he was/is crying on the inside. IMO all he needed was one more block, in order to take it to the house. But as fate would have it, another loss in the final minute. Why not laugh??? **** This season has just been a ****ed up season.

Well as I stated last week before the game, a good source told me that mr. mathis tends to enjoy the benefits of being in the nfl more than the nfl itself. I stated that he is one to go out every night of the week and have a bit too much fun, and also that he didnt care about becoming a receiver because he only wanted to return kicks. dont know about the laughing but i did see a perfectly thrown 10 yard pass that hit him square in the hands that he dropped for no reason, and we know those passes dont come often on this team. so i dont care what the circumstance is but if you laugh while you jsut loss, then you really dont care about your team.

You know I actually predicted this to happen.........I swear I was watching the game and I said "Watch this. Mathis is gonna take this one to the Ten and be tackled just ten yards outside the goal and the Texans will lose. Just watch. It ain't over".

Then I watched the play as Washington pitched it back to Mathis and Mathis broke down the sideline and I thought "Oh My God I was just joking" and sure enough he gets tackled short. But here comes the flag and I thought "Nope. No way. They will screw it up." And sure enough old trusty Kris Brown comes up and his kicked looked like how I would kick a feild goal. You would never would have known that he was a pro.

I sat on the coach just laughing and laughing and laughed some more and I laughed for so long that I hadn't laughed like that in months. It just one of those times where it gets so bad you just can't help but laugh.

This may come across harsher than intended, but reveal your source or shut it. Maybe it's just me, but this type of thing seems pretty irresponsible to me. All indications from every newspaper report, interview, or internet blog points to him being a willing pupil and furthermore, I have read reports where he didn't really relish the idea of kick return duty, which would directly contradict your "source".

you can tell, the way He kicked the ball,
He was gonna miss.
It wasn't no accident!

Are you trying to say he tanked it on purpose. Hey we are gonna get alot in trading down from #1 instead of #2. Might not be a bad idea.

I have to honestly say after watching the game again, Mathis was not laughing. So I got to step up and apologize for accusing him of laughing. He was doing something else but he wasn't laughing. So Jerome, you still the man!

Source = voice in head

I would have to say he was grimmacing. :texflag:

You all should hear some of my laughs at the end of these games. It is becoming rather hysterical, and my wife gets scared.

actually revealing sources isnt always good for the source. whether you all believe it or not the source knows what he is talking about, its his first hand knowledge of the situation and he is associated with the team. you may not believe me but he sees mathis daily in practice, on the road, and knows whats going on. I would hope its kind of obvious that despite what the team has been saying, mathis did not get significant time at WR this week and the one play i noticed him was a short quick pass designed for him to make an easy catch and be able to run, but he couldnt catch it. Also if you watch his kick returns he completely traps the ball between his wrists and chest. He doesnt use his hands and thats why he fumbled the other week, and thats why he doesnt play WR ever. There is no way he could catch the ball with just his hands like JJ use to. I think my source and actually watching his fundamentals makes it clear.

Catching can be taught, speed can't.

Corey? Corey Bradford?

I thought we told you to get lost and stop posting on this board! Nothing you say like that is going to get you another year with the Texans and if you were going to learn how to catch you would have done it by now!

Sorry, I was not thinking about Bradford. I had not heard about him in a couple of weeks so I just plain forgot about him.

one of my favorite post of the week. I'm still laughing.

come on...you had to laugh...i understand why you would want to tank the kick...but you have to do it in a way that isn't so freakin obvious...because we all know kris brown is a better kicker than what he has recently been displaying...as for mathis...i was kinda surprised he didn't go off and beat his head in like he tried to do with rivers :homer:

He was probably laughing as OMG, I cant beleive what Im seeing:yahoo:

Besides Mathis, the whole ST looked like dookie. Kris had a couple of short kickoffs, then the blocked kick (hmmm, was that part of the conspiracy too), the infamous shank, Stanley had a crappy punt, Stanley was the only tackler on the long punt return by Pac-Man that did not result in a score, then of course the other long punt return that did result in a score.

Kinda freaky when you think about it. Does McNair give out bonuses to the area that aids in the Reggie Bush Sweepstakes the most. If so then Joe Marciano gets it this week.

yeah who gives a **** if he laughs, he could be pulling freakin rabbits out of his helmet. I am pretty sure his laughter was more along the lines of "I can't believe this ****, I break a kick return into Titans territory, nearly get my head ripped off and he missed the game tying field goal..." what else can you do? Just been one of the most piss-poor seasons I have ever seen.

Look for Mathis to have a big day against the Cardinals, as they have allowed 7 touchdowns on special teams this year.

It seems to me that the person you are talking to really has a problem with Mathis. I am concerned because it seems as if they and you are trying to sabatoge this guy. What has he ever done to you? This kid looks like the only person trying to win and all you can say is negative things, you might need to do a self check on you and your source.

When Brown missed that FG, I laughed too -- in a kind of "Can you believe it?" kind of way.

I see nothing but observations being made by someone and it being reported. How is saying he chooses not to work much at learning to catch better a sabotage? I would say more that I would hope that he could realize that not being able to catch with your hands in the NFL would make you want to work a little extra on learning to. I am not denying his running ability or what he brings to ST, but he should be trying to bring that to the offense as well. I dont see the correlation between reporting some things that arent shown in a newspaper article or on tv and wanting to sabotage a player or make him seem as though he brings nothing. My point is that if Mathis has this talent then if he cared about his team and winning he would be putting in the effort.

The problem with your "reporting" is that it's completely unsubstantiated. We can all make claims that <insert player here> doesn't work on whatever apsect of his game behind the scenes and y'all are just seeing the results, but it's irresponsible at best.

SECOND!

It's not like you are a local reporter covering your sources. Completely irresponsible and brings absolutely zero value to the conversation.

I've been told by a reliable source, close to the team, that Andre Johnson stopped caring about this season back when he feigned a calf injury. He's stopped working on his receiving skills and you've seen the results. He has at least two dropped TD passes this year!

Mathis does seem like he is giving an extra effort to win. But I don't believe he is the only one -- D-Davis is trying hard and you can see that via his production. However, I don't see anything wrong with pointing out his negatives. Mathis is a rookie and has a lot to learn. He can run kicks back, but he still hasn't proven himself as a receiver. It's the same with D-Rob. A lot of people love this guy, but it has been very evident for awhile now that he is not a team player and is only looking out for himself. Plus, his production this year has not been that good and people still for some reason act as though it was last year. None of these guys are above criticism.
