I just wish there was some clarity on what happened. Was the injury misdiagnosed, surgery failure, massive underlying problems. WTF happened?

Is there any indication this was a pre-existing knee injury (prior to being drafted by Houston)?

No.

But there were the untreated from high school heel/bone spurs that can predispose a high level athlete to injuries like this one "up the line" from the ankle through the knee into the hip joint and possibly higher. We were assured that the Texans medical team had full & unfettered access to JD's medical records for evaluation prior to the draft.

But the manner in which this injury was addressed is what we've been questioning as it happened, with the crux of the issue stated (mostly correctly) here:
During the operation, a surgeon can either remove or repair the damaged portion of the meniscus. Repairs preserve the knee's long-term health at the expense of a longer recovery, while removals allow an athlete to return to play more quickly but come with a higher risk of problems years down the line.

I believe Dr. CND can support the "higher risk of problems" being much closer in time than "years down the line".

Bottom line is it is highly likely that a short term solution decision was made that was not in the best interest of the player for 2015 and forward... and a sacrifice was made in doing so. I personally question whether actual "informed consent" was practically given -- perhaps it does not matter, perhaps players have little real choice. But I'm skeptical an advocate for JD with the capabilities to comprehend the possibilities would have chosen "Door #2" -- I would not have advised him to do so.

We saw it happen on that crappy field at NRG.

Yep.

We have the Super Bowl in two years. They had better get this mess fixed before then.

As I have said, I don't understand signing a player to a $100m contract, yet giving him a terrible field to play on. That's a recipe for a disaster.

Thanks I am just catching up on this. Did Clowney have his MCL removed or repaired?

They bring in a completely different non-tray field for the SB.

And Clowney has never said the field had anything to do with his knee.

But it's another chance to beyotch about something we have no control over or say in

:kitten: :specnatz:

I've read the book My Injury File: How I Shot, Smoked, And Screwed My Way Through The NFL written by a former NFL WR (Nate Jackson). It chronicles how only after his career did he ever see his detailed medical records........he had no idea how extensive his file and injuries were......nor their true implication.....as he and his team and medical staffs preferred keeping him in a state of perpetual ignorant bliss.

You will be enticed to read the entire book when you read this unbelievably revealing excerpt from the book.

Very interesting read. Thanks for the heads up. I'll pick up this book for my dad for Christmas.

And Clowney has never said the field had anything to do with his knee.

Yes he did.

"He told me on the field when it happened, he was just like, 'Bro, I just jumped, came down and hit one of the holes on the field,'" said [safety D.J.] Swearinger. "There are a few holes in the grass, so he said he thought he stepped on one of those holes and got hurt. So I told him to try and walk it off, see if he could go. He went in the next play and couldn't go, so I told him to go to the sideline and see what's up with it. And he went over to the sideline, and I guess that's when they told him (he had to stay out)."

No, that would be Swearing speaking.

A lawyer to the end.:nolisten: Swearinger speaking about what Clowney said right after the injury. You think Swearinger is making that up? You don't think Clowney said that? The jury is in, Swearinger is a credible witness, you were wrong.

They'd better get that mess fixed in Arizona too. They have a Super Bowl in 2 months.

You are 100% wrong. Clowney himself said the crappy field caused the injury. Why are you a moderator? You are completely unsuitable for the job and have become a joke. You have become worse than thunderkyss.

At least mussop stuck to the facts - DJ said it.

And for the record I regard insults from you as compliments. So keep on plugging Mr. Internet Tough Guy.

Can't he be a fan also? Are you 100% correct in every utterance you make?

And what's wrong with TK?

Btw, they didn't have a tray for the last superbowl

Sorry did he have his Lateral Meniscus removed or repaired?

I'm going to let Dr. CND answer that as there are very specific implications to each word that do not align with common parlance, and very different outlooks to each that again don't necessarily follow common expectations.

Unfortunately for us, Dr. CND is up to his elbows with work and other obligations... so it may be a few days before he can return and respond. But trust that he will when he can.

If you're diligent and in a hurry, most of these answers have already been posted earlier in this thread and in one or both of the Louis Nix III threads. :)

?? What I do?

Anyway, his job as moderator is just to make sure everyone follows the rules. There ain't no rules about being a dick. As long as he doesn't insult you.... there's no reason he can't be a moderator.

Of course DJ made it up! He's in on the whole thing! They're all in on it!

DJ said that Clowney told him that JD stepped in a soft spot on the field. You are dead wrong again.

infantrycak shouldn't be a moderator because his belittling, condescending attitude detracts from this board. I have had several posters agree with me about this in PMs. I could care less if he doesn't like me. It's his attitude that does harm to the board.

I use to come here to talk football and crack jokes. This has turned in high school. Boohoo someone is mean to me. Here's an idea - don't engage them in conversation and put them on your block list. Move on in life.

So...how's Clowney's knee today? It should have it's own Twitter by now.

Someone mentioned this before, but has it been verified that his lateral meniscus was removed? And if so, how could a second surgery deal with that?

And OB stated on Channel. 13 that the details of the second surgery are to remain secret. WTF is up with that?

How can a person's medical information remain secret? Is that what you're asking?

There was a tear in the lateral meniscus. If left untreated, the tear would have continued to spread. They had the choice to repair it, or treat it so the tear would not progress. They chose to treat it, which entails removing the torn area.

So the short answer is that they removed a part of it.

The second surgery is probably to address something that resulted from a complication from the first surgery.

There are at least a couple of reasons to keep it secret. You don't want your opponents (or even fans) knowing the limitations of one of your assets. And keeping the details out of public scrutiny reduces the emotional strain on the player. This can't be easy for him.

CND may be able to give us the possible scenarios though.

There are federal rules about releasing employees medical info. The employer isn't allowed to release the info. Neither is the hospital, or they are in violation of federal law.

I-Cak/CND etc... know more about this than I do. I cant remember the name of the law, but it exists.

HIPAA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act passed in 1996.

I tried going through, but there was a lot of information to sift through. So I figured I would be lazy and ask again.
