2018 college football attendance down again, 7 of last 8 seasons. NCAA avg game attendance reported last week for 2018 41,856 lowest since 1996. Of top 30 teams all remained same or declined. This surprises me. Clemson championship year was down avg 373 per game.

Florida Gators RS soph Malik Davis returns with career avg 6.4. The RB broke foot game 3 2018 and 2017 tore ACL game 7. Team needs him full season as he's best on roster -- if he plays.

Ohio State senior LB Justin Hilliard adds another injury with surgery completed. Red shirt fresh WR Kamryn Babcock had ACL his high school senior year then missed 2018 freshman college. Surgery for this incident to be scheduled for this week. Injury of both players not identified; both out indefinitely.

Most significant news this time year unfortunately, relates to health.

Clemson junior WR Amari Rodgers tweets he tore ACL Monday. This season in doubt for return.

Players to watch:

Georgia Amari Carter safety

  1. "You can really see Amari, he really stands out to me," new defensive coordinator Blake Baker said, per Stefan Adams of CanesInsight. "He's not a vocal guy by nature, but has been a lot more vocal on the field. He's kind of a silent assassin from what I've seen. I'm really impressed with him."

Over the last two seasons, Carter has held a reserve role

My opinion Kirby Smart after losing to Texas needs to have another great season losing only one in regular season to LA state. No issue with losing to Alabama in playoffs but final game to Texas was a blow.

Alabama senior Trevon Diggs returns from 9 game 2018 injury to foot. He began last season with 20 tackles, forced fumble, 6 passes broken up and another INT in three games. Tide hoping he picks up where he left off.

No one wants to talk college football? It was a good season 2018. A good draft could shift Texans strategy going forward. I'm hoping some of you would have players or positions to watch for.

New Oklahoma starting QB and transfer Jalen Hurts looking good in spring. I've always like the kid and his dad was taught by my friend whom I watch football with every Sunday.

D'ERIQ KING, HOUSTON
2018 stats: 219-of-345, 2,982 yards, 36 touchdowns, 6 interceptions; 674 yards rushing, 14 TDs

2019 expectations: Will King be the same prolific runner on a surgically-repaired knee this season? King told the media this week that he is "100 percent" and has been running full speed this spring, despite being in a non-contact jersey at the coaching staff's urging. He's excited about continuing to learn Dana Holgorsen's varying tempo Air Raid through the rest of spring and should be one of the nation's leaders in total offense if things go well this fall for the Cougars. King led FBS with 50 total touchdowns before his injury last fall, a single-season American Athletic Conference record and the fourth-highest total in program history.

Some 2019 players for 2020 draft I will be watching:

LT/RT Georgia Andrew Thomas 6'5" 320 JR.Had strong 2018 at LT with Bulldogs having great running game. rated as a steady vs pass rushers & as a true freshman 2017 started 13 games despite an ankle injury.

LT Notre Dame Liam Eichenberg 6'6" 308 Sr continues very solid LTs for this school. 2018 was to play RT but beat out others for LT to replace NFL Mike McClinchey. I expect great year but hope he falls in draft. I'm hoping that the overall crop of O. Linemen will be much more in round one. Others like Isaiah Wilson, Leatherwood should step in as a starter somewhere as he can play all spots for Tide with Little and Munford also stepping up. Trey Adams may factor in but his previous ACL in 2017 and more recent back surgery has me leery of this huge and talented player for U. of Washington.

OG Georgia Ben CLeveland 6'7" 340 with good strength

Redshirt Junior offensive guard Landon Dickerson transfer to University of Alabama from Florida State. Is 2016 and 2017 seasons were interrupted by injuries.. He was only able to play 2 games in 2018 before injury that led to his Redshirt year. Coming out of high school he was the number 31 player overall. Will be interesting to see if Alabama's coaching can keep him healthy and make something out of him. Dickerson has two years of Eligibility left.

Clemson beats out Alabama for #1 preseason prediction. I love watching these two powerhouses as they continue to place guys into the NFL. Texans connection with Clemson through our roster helps. Week 1 of season begins for me on August 24th with University of Florida vs Miami of Florida.

Locking down one side of the field for Florida in that opener against Miami will be CJ Henderson a JR corner. Per ROTOworld:

C.J. HENDERSONDB, FLORIDA GATORS

Florida junior DB C.J. Henderson is ranked 34th on Bruce Feldman's list of the top athletic freaks in college football.
"The 6-1, 193-pounder has just 4.3 percent body fat but is one powerful dude," Feldman wrote. "He benches 380 and did 16 reps of 225 this offseason to go with a 545-pound squat, a 40.5-inch vertical and 10-4 in the broad jump." Henderson started all 13 games for the Gators last season, tallying 38 total tackles (five for loss), three sacks, two interceptions, nine passes defensed and two forced fumbles. And the combination of on-field production and off-the-charts testing numbers have the junior defensive back in the middle of Day 1 draft conversation heading into the 2019 season.

There are a number of guys that I am intrigued by going into the year. Jeffrey Okudah (CB/Ohio State) is one who I could see the Texans looking at to put opposite Lonnie Johnson. I also like Jeff Gladney from TCU at corner (but would look at him as more of a 3rd round pick as opposed to a Okudah in the first). I think someone like K'Lavon Chaisson could be a possibility too as a replacement for Mercilus (or even Clowney if he put weight on). Gage Cervenka (IOL/Clemson) is probably my personal favorite. I could see him being a 4th or 5th rounder who contributed early on and ended up starting for a long time at center. There are several others but those are the ones I currently am interested in following this season.

badboy

Hall of Fame
79, do you think Lonnie Johnson is going to translate to outside corner in the NFL? I'm not sure his reported sub 4.50 40 is going to be there on field. I had him at safety predraft. We know he has the ability and desire to hit so but can he cover? On this roster I see him as a replacement for Colvin at some point.

I am not certain about Johnson but I assume the team is. I recall there being a scout who claimed Johnson had the most impressive workout he had seen from a bigger corner so hopefully he can stick on the boundary. Either way, if it were me, I would look to draft 2 corners and 2 running backs (go ahead and get a stable in place). The remaining picks would be BPA/Depth/special teamers. My sure-to-change-but-at-the-moment-what-I'd-do mock draft:

1: (in this scenario I would trade back to pick up an extra 4th): Jeffrey Okudah - Corner/Ohio State - Size speed prospect who comes from a program that produces DBs. Only available late 1st due to db talent in the 202 draft. Rookie starter.
2: K'Lavon Chaisson - OLB/LSU - Assuming health after ACL. Athlete who can play either SAM or Jack, would allow team to save $$$ by allowing Mercilus to leave or putting him back at Jack and trading Clowney.
3: Cam Akers or JK Dobbins - RB (FSU or Ohio State) - Replacement for Lamar Miller.
3 (Mathieu compensatory): Jeff Gladney - Corner/TCU - Additional corner who can either be groomed to be the slot corner or push Johnson on the outside.
4: Gage Cervenka - C or OG/Clemson - I am hoping that Fulton replaces Martin at C. Cervenka plays a season as IOL depth before replacing Fulton at C.
4: Najee Harris or AJ Dillon - RB (Alabama or Boston College) - Grinding rb to compliment the earlier RB selection.
5: Naquan Jones - DL/MSU - We have tremendous depth at NT. This provides another body at DE.
6: D'Eriq King - QB/U of H - Long term backup to Watson who can operate in the same offense should Deshaun ever go down.
7: Tanner Muse - S/Clemson - Safety depth and special team demon.

Paddy Fisher NFL Draft Preview | Tackling Machine
Coming out of Katy Texas as a 3 Star Recruit Paddy Fisher was the 44th ranked linebacker and only the 134th best player in the state of Texas. Fisher wasn’t highly recruited whose only Power 5 offers besides Northwestern were Baylor, Boston College, Iowa State, Kansas, Maryland, Wisconsin and Texas Tech. Fisher decided to head north to Evanston and the rest is history. In this NFL Draft Preview we take a look at what Paddy Fisher does well, what some of my concerns are and what his NFL outlook is.

Fisher getting some attention & follows the ball not the play which I like. But
Let’s not get to far ahead of ourselves on the hype, though: both Clayton Thorson and Anthony Walker Jr. (a fellow middle linebacker under Fitzgerald) were mocked in the first round of their respective drafts over the past three years. Both ended up falling all the way to the fifth round, though Walker has already had success with the Indianapolis Colts.

Basically, you should take these “way-too-early” predictions with a significant grain of salt if you are a Northwestern fan.

Alabama JR RB Najee Harris
Harris was the nation’s No. 1-ranked running back in the 2017 recruiting cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He saw the field in all 14 games as a true freshman in 2017 and was the Crimson Tide’s fourth-leading rusher. Last year, his involvement increased as he was the team’s second-leading rusher with 783 yards and four touchdowns on 117 carries.

This spring and during Alabama’s 10 fall camp practices, Harris has been the top back with the first-team offense. But the road to his point, all the way from Antioch, Calif., has been a trying one.

“It’s a challenge because as a running back, me personally, you would always want the ball. I know what I can do with it,” Harris said. “But at the same time, it is a business. As an NFL person, you don’t want nobody that gets like that much carries. It won’t really be well going out of college, so I just had to learn the business aspect of it. And I did.”

Saban on Oline:
The Crimson Tide returns two starters from last year’s line in Alex Leatherwood and Jedrick Wills. Leatherwood moved back to tackle after starting 15 games at right guard last year and has lined up at left tackle since the spring, while Wills is back as the starting right tackle. They have been constants at their positions all offseason long, but the interior is where things get interesting.

As Saban said Thursday, Alabama has multiple options at left guard, center and right guard. In the 12 practices, especially this week after the first scrimmage, we’ve seen five different players working with the first team. One of them has been mammoth true freshman Evan Neal, who has been at left guard beside Leatherwood most of the week. The newcomer is pushing for playing time.

I would love to add WR Jerry Jeudy if we can trade for a high 2020 pick. Washington or Raiders? I think he could be a "generational" player. Others have noted he is best WR [if he comes out] in years and I expect him to.

New LSU defensive line coach Bill Johnson coached in his first practice Friday afternoon, arriving a day after news of his hiring broke.

The former long-time New Orleans Saints defensive line coach has essentially been hired as an analyst, an LSU official said, to fill in while injured coach Dennis Johnson recovers from serious knee injuries.

The arrangement doesn't have a contract, the official said, and Bill Johnson is able to coach on the field under a filed waiver that was approved by the NCAA due to the circumstances surrounding Dennis Johnson's injury.

The 64-year-old Johnson stepped in for LSU analyst Kenechi Udeze, who was also coaching the position group under a filed waiver that was passed by the NCAA.

LSU highly ranked corner Kristian Fulton
Fulton was a freshman signee in 2016 as the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana and No. 6 cornerback in the nation, according to Rivals.com.

Miami wide receiver Evidence Njoku (83) and LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton (22) compete for a pass during the second half of an NCAA college football game Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, in Arlington, Texas. The pass was incomplete. LSU won 33-17. (AP Photo/Ron Jenkins) (Photo: The Associated Press)

Because of Tre'Davious White, Kevin Toliver II, and Dwayne Thomas ahead of him at cornerback, he barely played that year. In brief appearances in three games, he made two tackles.

Better planning would have meant a red-shirt for him, particularly considering what would happen. Fulton missed the entire 2017 season on suspension by the NCAA for using someone else's clean urine for a drug test because — he later admitted — his urine would have tested positive for marijuana. By NCAA written rule, he should have missed all of the 2018 season as well.
But the NCAA granted him a reprieve, possibly for good behavior, LSU's relentless lobbying, and his many zero failed drug tests after he was turned in by an LSU official administering the test he fixed.

The NCAA never said exactly why, but it granted him a reduced sentence on Aug. 23 of last year and gave him back a season. He played in 2018, starting 10 games and rarely giving up big plays.

He injured his foot in the 10th game of the season at Arkansas and missed the rest of the season. After surgery in December, he was held out of spring practice.

Having no first round in the 2020 draft makes it a little bit more difficult and requires much deeper research to find players who may be available at our round 2 selection. Tonight I focused on number 6 LSU versus number 9 University of Texas . First thing of note, for me was U. TX left tackle Samuel cosmi a 6 ft 5 4 inch 291 lb manhandler. He has skill set to move his feet while maintaining a balanced anchor despite bull rushes or speed rushers. He had one pancake against a defensive end that was awe
inspiring. He is able to pull block and was bulldozer on a goal line stand on a quarterback keeper for a TD. As a redshirt sophomore he may elect not to come out but I sure hope that doesn't happen. I honestly do not see us going for a left tackle prospect in our second round if our current players work out. If he is there round 3 I think I look strongly at him. If you get a chance to watch this game on a replay I highly recommend focusing on number 52

2018 olb for LSU Michael Divinity jr. #45 a 6 ft 1 and 1/2 " 243 pounder who will play middle linebacker in 2019. 2018 stats in 11 starts he had 54 tackles with 9.5 for loss, eight quarterback hurries, five quarterback sacks, 1 int, 1 FF, 2 recoveries one of which was a 58-yard touchdown. He is a take-charge type of guy improves others and seems to know the game well he is all over the field great in coverage or playing up near the line when needed.

He is ranked around 45-50 but he has to do much more for me to continue interest. I am also hopeful we don't have to draft Oline again. Kenny Willekes is ranked #74 and in three games has 19 tackles with 6.5 for loss and 4 sacks + 8 QB hurries. I want him to pass defend but not sure he can.

Not sure if Texans can overlook his past at TCU but Utah State RSSr OLB Tipa Galea'i is very interesting. In 2016 two TCU students passed him and made comment on his drunkenness & he followed them into dorm hitting one 21 times and another student three. He was found guilty and dismissed from school. He had to sit out all 2017 but transferred to Utah State. I know of no other incidents or reports of alcohol use.

2018 13 games 64 tackles 14 for loss with 10.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. 7 QB hurries and 3 passes defended with 2 INTs one for a TD. He also blocked a punt.

From Draft Network:

  • PROS: A juiced-up pass rusher with elite burst. Explosive, natural edge bender who can dip and flatten around the corner on a consistent basis. Has a lethal fastball as a dominant speed rusher. Takes advantage of speed mismatch off the edge with well-timed inside counter moves. High-effort player. Consistently chases down plays from the backside and has a knack for always being around the football. Offers a ton of stand-up value as a 3-4 outside linebacker. Adept and experienced at dropping into coverage. Instincts are off the charts. Has impressive blend of anticipation and quickness off the ball. Very productive 2018 season with 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

CONS: Dismissed from TCU after he was caught on video assaulting two students. Doesn’t have the frame or bulk to handle three-down responsibility as a defensive end. Inexperienced as a point-of-attack run defender. Needs to be more active with his hands... wins solely on his speed and quickness.
