If The Texans......

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
Were to come out of the gate 1-8......what is the approach for Bye-Week?

1. First, did O'Brien make it to the Bye-Week? If he did, should he make it through the Bye-Week?

2. Does the team assess their assets and look at potential returns from playoff bound teams in preparation for a 2019 rebuild?

3. If the team goes 1-8, it would be obvious that the OL failed, Clowney and/or Watt just aren't playing or not playing up to expectations, and the CB's have become even more suspect b/c of a lack of pressure on QB's.

4. Would the team be willing to include Watt as a moveable asset?

I put this out there b/c if the team has laid an egg through Week 9, then the schedule from Week 11 thru Week 17 doesn't appear to offer much hope for a rebound.

W11- @ Redskins
W12- Titans
W13- Browns
W14- Colts
W15- @ Jets
W16- @ Eagles
W17- Jaguars

I could see the Titans game as a revenge win at home. The road games are no wins and the Browns, Colts and Jags are just better.....at the moment, injuries could change the landscape in a hurry.

Of course, this whole exercise could be for nothing if the Texans can get and stay healthy while the OL finally gels into a serviceable unit. The defense will need to up the pass rush game b/c it has simply exposed the DB's limitations. O'Brien will need to impersonate a successful HC who can make sound decisions in crunch time. Wait, did I just ask for far too much?

just found this and will prob reply but it is one am and I need rack time. 1-8 is not far fetched.

Yeah, I was wondering if folks were going to stumble across this.

Quick update:

Bills game is no longer a gimme.....damn, the Texans could be 0-9 at the break.

Past and current injuries are starting to take their toll.....making 0-9 not completely out of the realm.

If the Texans get beat by the Bills.....this is the game the McNair's set aside the O'Brien extension and send Gaine down to let him know it's time to pack his office up.

Players aren't going to say it but I think O'Brien has lost the locker room.

Players who could return picks....assign their value at will:

Watt
Clowney
Mercilus
McKinney
Jackson
Joseph
Badger

Hopkins
Miller
Martin

These players deserve better. They would not have the time (quality) or represent too much money for a complete rebuild.

Like I stated, if they go on a tear and suddenly find themselves at 5-4 at the break, then this was for nothing. If they have stunk, then the team better have a plan in place to start over and do it right for once.

Now this thread looks entirely different if Jags lose to us and suddenly Thurs game rises to a national interest IMO. Texans could be 3-5, 4-4 or 5-3 in just a few days. If by some chance we then go 7-3 with a bye week in there, Colvin, Hal and Foreman could be back for last six games. Will Watson still be able to suck enough air into his lungs or will team go to some silent count?

That wouldn't be good b/c the way this team got there wouldn't be b/c of greatness but b/c the teams they beat were just worse at the moment. The OL will still be the same unit which isn't a good thing in any type of playoff scenario, since the Texans would then be exposed, only now the team will be further back in an all important draft.

I disagree OT as each game allows more time for Davenport, Rankin and Lamm to get better + playing time together. Let's not forget this line had only 2 games (last two) playing together same positions. Not for nothing that comes to screeching halt as RG Fulton will not play tomorrow. When some reminisce about old Olines they should forget that those player didn't have injuries forcing them off field for long times. Also this year the second half of season may be when Texans begin to come together especially if those injured guys become productive.

Watching 2 games focusing on OTs: Oklahoma's #71 Bobby Evans LT and RT Cody Ford a red shirt Jr looking poorly against TCU. Also as stated yesterday I'm focusing on Wisconsin's RT David Edwards; to be kind I'll say he is not in my plans for 2019 draft. On a successful TD passing play with just over a minute in first half, Edwards was manhandled and fell over backwards.
Posted this earlier in thread on Texans o line. Have watched Greg Little off and on during Miss game against Auburn but he also is not looking good. I just don't understand why so many folks are saying the 2019 draft is deep on OTs.

Clemson is on soon vs North Carolina State and I will focus on OT Mitch Hyatt. In August, as reported on Rotoworld that Joe Marino Draft Network said Hyatt is a development guy for mid rounds: "soft hands and gives up his chest with soft anchor." Before this in July Tony Pauline has him as a 4th round but listed some positives but thought Hyatt should play OG or RT. As I'm looking for RT for Texans I want to focus more on this guy. Hyatt turns 22 Feb 6th 2019 and he is a senior at Clemson.

I didn't see that at all, Little didn't give up any pressures and wasn't bad in the run game. The fact that you dont like Little but are still singing Davenports praises tells me alot.

I also think Hyatt is stronger than he was last yr and looks like a LT more than a RT to me. You want the RT to be stronger at the POA then you do your LT who you want to be more nimble. Ideally you want both of your OT's to be both strong and nimble. But finding one of those guys is hard to do much less 2 OT's and those guys usually play LT
