Hard Knocks: Houston Texans 2015

Fair enough, but let me ask you this.

If the New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks were going to be on Hard Knocks, would it hurt their chances of going to the play offs in 2015? Would it hurt their chances of winning a Super Bowl?

No, then the narrative would be 'strong minded confident HCs/teams aren't worried about distractions - Texans playing scared again.'

I think the NFL screwed up by making the only teams eligible to be forced are the trams that didn't make the playoffs. Now, it seems more like a punishment than anything.

Hard Knocks is months removed from the Super Bowl & one (playoffs included) has nothing to do with the other.

Teams loosing before the Conference championship should be the teams eligible to be forced.

& there's 50% turnover in the playoffs you shouldn't have to worry about teams repeating too often.

Cowboys, Panthers, Cardinals, Lions, Bengals, Steelers, Ravens, & Broncos. I'd watch all those teams save the Bengals & Lions.

Definitely

No. "I just like to give people crap" (your words) = Troll

Fair enough maybe the Texans will begin to have a consistent winning franchise in another decade or 2. After all the billionaires seem to have a very low learning curve.

Aww, he made 1 Pro Bowl! ...and was 2 games over .500 for his career. :kitten:

And threw an int against Oakland in the final seconds that cost them a trip to the SB. He lead many comebacks that season to get them to that point.

Sipe was better than the multiple time pro bowler Schaub.

See. This is what you do. You whine that the Texans are not consistent winners, then when you get shown the data, you say it's not winning "enough" or "the right way". You're a human moving goalpost.

Actually, I'm struggling to come up with names of "great" QB's that never played in a SB. I've got Fouts and Moon.

Moon was great? How many conference championships did his very talented Oilers teams make it too?

Moon was a gentlemans club pro bowler. Ask Glanville for his opinion of Moon.

Tell me again which one is in the Hall of Fame?

Take Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson...

Pete's NFL record is fired two times and 14-18.

Add QB Russell Wilson to the mix and Carroll is 36-12, 6-2 in the playoffs, and one playcall from two Super Bowl wins.

Given the choice, I'll take the QB.

Fair enough

Give me the guys who did the work to find the QB.

I give up, you guys are happy with where the team currently is and are going to defend all things Texans. Facts are this team hasn't won crap. But there's always hope.

I think it's about you bashing the Texans no matter what. Nobody is happy about the results of the 1st decade of this franchise, though the 1st 3 or 4 years didn't really count. They weren't given expansion deals deals like Carolina and Jacksonville got. And unfortunately, the staff they had in here trying to build it failed miserably. They break from that and get Kubiak and finally break the barrier and make the playoffs in year 10, and even won a game. Did that 2 years in a row. Injuries took their toll on them in '13 and they revamped almost the entire organization after that season and they barely miss the playoffs with a new coaching staff and crap at QB.

In the end, the Texans have had winning seasons in 3 of the last 4 years, the exact amount of winning seasons the Seahawks have in that same time span. In fact, since 2008 the Seahawks have won a whopping 3 more games than the Texans.

The Texans are now a full season into what O'Brien is doing and after seeing what he pulled off last season, there is hope. That doesn't mean anyone is satisfied with jack ****. It just means the future is hopeful.

You're so focused on bashing the Texans, or putting blame on somebody that you can't see any of the good things they are trying to do here, the corner that we all hope they've turned just like Seattle fans were hoping when they brought in Carroll. They should have a defense that's one of the best, if not the best in the business. And if any one of these QBs can play just decently, and key players stay healthy (coughFostercough), they'll be alright on that side as well.

Then again, if you think Brian Sipe was a better QB than Warren Moon, then it really doesn't matter what you're seeing anyway. Watch out for those polka-dot zebras.

I just want to say Sipe wasn't better than Moon. I also want to say that I hope I'm wrong but until there are fundamental changes within the way the Texans do business I wouldn't expect any long playoff runs. (Absent Brady) This post is directed to Speedy. You post was sensible and well thought out.

Sad to say as a long time PSL holder.

I would've never put Moon in the HOF. Pancakes has pull amongst the brethren.

See that's the thing. Because YOU have a different opinion you have to attribute anything contrary to what you think to some bs reason. You fail to consider that your opinion might just be wrong or biased or slanted. Everything is not black and white like you seem to think.

You and I read the posts by other people here very differently.

Well, there is a difference between saying "I am happy with the direction this team is headed" versus "I am happy with the results this team has achieved to this point and do not expect any more from them". It is more nuanced than defending all things Texans. I'm very confident that few if any are saying they are happy/satisfied/content with the 2014 version of the Texans as much as they are saying that with everything that went on and they still had a winning season, it's just best to say "thank you very much!" and focus on the future. Last year could have been much, much, MUCH uglier than what it was. I think that most people are not ready to take up the torches and pitchforks to go storming Castle McNair. They are cautiously optimistic and taking a wait and see approach to some very obvious football-related decision and culture changes that have come with OB as the new head coach.

All my opinion of course, but in the real world nothing is ever a "you are either for me or against me" environment. Nor are any of us - myself included - so self-aware that we always recognize in the passion of sports that our particular position and opinion is not always the norm or benchmark with which to make all others line up against. And not everyone else's viewpoints fit into neat little buckets based on how we see the world. Sports or otherwise.

One does not have to be "Mary Sunshine" in all their posts, but when one only post negative thoughts and opinions, it gets very old and tiring and one tends to not read posts from that poster anymore - even if they might have something interesting or meaningful to say.

How can one still be a fan of the team, if they are that negative on anything the Texans do? Life is too short to only be a glass half empty person.

Besides it is just a game, Just entertainment. If one is not entertained, maybe they need to become a fan of some other team or sport.

I give up, you guys are happy with where the team currently is and are going to defend all things Texans. Facts are this team hasn't won crap. But there's always hope.

I'm happy with where the team is going.

I'm not happy with the way we've got to this point, but it's childish to keep punishing them for things they can't change. Capers & Casserly weren't the right guys. McNair fired them & moved on. Doesn't make sense to continue to bash McNair for having four losing seasons when everyone most likely expected him to have four losing seasons. It also doesn't make sense to bash him & his marketing guys for have done a better job during that time than his football guys.

I loved the Kubiak hire at the time & I think he did a lot for getting this team from expansion team to an NFL franchise. He took the team as far as he could. McNair didn't pull the plug when he should have. There's nothing McNair can do about that now other than to fire Kubiak mid-season after Kubiak suffered a minor stroke & McNair was damn near on his own deathbed. I can't think of a better way to say, "I fk'd up."

Rick Smith is still here. I get that that gets your goat. I'm not going to argue that with you, it is what it is. But overall, I like where the Texans are headed. I think our future is bright. & it's not too bad over the last 5 years either.

Even if Rick Smith not only leaves, but is fired in the most humiliatingly public way, as long as McNair owns the team we are going to hear this song and dance from him. He wants the owner fired.

This is a case of circular logic. If you define GREAT as a QB who leads his team to the Superbowl, then finding a GREAT QB who didn't will be impossible. But like Dan Marino, who only led his team to a Superbowl before he became "GREAT," there are some who you cannot leave off the list if you've actually watched them play, leaving the definition itself as suspect.
I give up, you guys are happy with where the team currently is and are going to defend all things Texans. Facts are this team hasn't won crap. But there's always hope.
There is a HUGE difference between being satisfied with the team as is and agreeing on what would make them better, rather than worse. I don't believe criminal behavior makes a team better.

I've never watched the show and don't intend to just because it's the Texans. I expect anything of importance will be posted here.

I've only watched about three episodes on the Jets. What I learned was that Sanchez was not mature enough to inspire leadership (somewhat -- but note entirely -- vindicating Pete Carroll's "He's not ready" press conference at USC), and that Rex Ryan really likes hamming it up when the camera's on. It was entertaining, but I don't see why any team would want to reveal that much about their internal affairs. Completely counter-intuitive to competition.

Hard Knocks is a hoot when taken for what it is, which is watching a bunch meatheads killing time in between drills. The majority of the show focuses on the guys fighting to make the final 53, with passing glances at some established names and a dose of the kind of mentality the HC is trying to convey to his team heading into a new season. Throw in a bunch of lame jock jokes, some very pg rookie hazing, the odd injury turmoil, no doubt a harrowing tale of some guy from across the country adjusting to his new environs (now Houston heat/humidity), roll it all up, edit, and you've got Hard Knocks.

It's a tasty appetizer that goes nicely with the preseason to whet the appetite for an upcoming NFL entree. Don't expect much more and you'll likely not be let down.

I'm really looking forward to it, the only one I watched previously was the Texans episode last season.

It is a right old hassle to find a half decent stream though. I'm sure I'll manage.

I won't jailbreak my stuff.

Too much hassle.

When I quit programming I decided to make life easier, lol

Is Kodi considered jail breaking?

Anywho you can get a firestick for like $25 and put Kodi on it. And it has no effect on the rest of the content on the firestick. its super easy.

Unless you are referring to a different kind of hassle.

I was thinking my apple stuff.

I didn't realize you could use it with a fire stick, I'll have to look into that closer.

I don't know that this has been posted from HBO.com. Ignore if it has.

HBO Sports, NFL Films and the Houston Texans team up for an all-access look at what it takes to make it in the National Football League when HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE HOUSTON TEXANS debuts in August. The first sports-based reality series - and one of the fastest-turnaround programs on TV - kicks off its five-episode tenth season TUESDAY, AUG. 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Other hour-long episodes of the 12-time Sports Emmy® Award-winning series debut subsequent Tuesdays at the same time, culminating in the Sept. 8 season finale.

"We are thrilled that the tenth edition of HARD KNOCKS will spotlight a team in a division that we have not featured previously on HBO," says Ken Hershman, president, HBO Sports. "It's exciting to feature a team, a franchise and a city for the first time on HARD KNOCKS. We are grateful to Texans chairman Bob McNair, general manager Rick Smith, coach Bill O'Brien and the entire organization for agreeing to participate and look forward to what we expect to be one of the most compelling and interesting seasons in HARD KNOCKS history. The series has become a summertime destination for TV viewers, and we can't wait for the premiere on August 11."

"We want to thank Bob McNair, Rick Smith, Bill O'Brien and the entire Houston Texans' organization for the trust they have in NFL Films by allowing us unprecedented access into their training camp," says Howard Katz, COO of NFL Films and NFL senior vice president of broadcasting. "We are looking forward to highlighting this team comprised of star players, free-agent newcomers and hopeful rookies as they come together to try to ascend to the top of the AFC South. We are excited to work with both the Texans and HBO Sports to give fans an inside look into the game they love."

The cinema verité series will focus on the daily lives and routines of players and coaches as the Houston Texans, who play in the hard-nosed AFC South, conduct the franchise's 14th training camp and prepare for the 2015 NFL season. HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE HOUSTON TEXANS will chronicle second-year head coach Bill O'Brien and an intriguing mix of high-profile veterans, emerging stars, free agents and rookie hopefuls throughout training camp and the four-game preseason schedule. Each week, players will experience drills, instruction, meetings and fun, while striving to prove they have what it takes to make the team and leave their mark on the NFL. The Texans are a team on the rise, with O'Brien improving the team's record from 2-14 to 9-7 in his first season at the helm.

"We are thrilled to partner with HBO and NFL Films to give fans unprecedented access to our team and organization," says Texans founder, chairman and CEO Robert C. McNair. "The HARD KNOCKS documentaries do a tremendous job of displaying how an NFL team prepares for the upcoming season. We look forward to showcasing the Houston Texans to a worldwide audience."

A 30-person NFL Films crew will be at the Texans' training camp at team headquarters in Houston, shooting more than 1,500 hours of footage over the course of the series. Camera and sound crews will have unencumbered access to the players' and coaches' meeting rooms, training rooms, living quarters and practice fields.

"This is an opportunity to provide a behind-the-scenes look at our team as we prepare for the 2015 season," says Rick Smith, the Texans' executive vice president of football operations and general manager. "Fans will get a chance to see the great competition that takes place day-in and day-out on the practice field, as well as get to know all the unique personalities on our roster."

Four summers ago HARD KNOCKS moved its premiere night to Tuesday and the results have been a resounding success. The five-part 2014 series on the NFC South Atlanta Falcons averaged more than 3.6 million viewers per episode, an increase from the show's 2013 performance. No other sports reality series can match the critical acclaim, awards and audience numbers posted by the HARD KNOCKS franchise.

To date, HARD KNOCKS has earned 12 Sports Emmy® Awards for production excellence. The series launched with the Baltimore Ravens in 2001, followed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, and resumed in 2007 with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning the show's first Sports Emmy®. In 2008, the series returned to the Dallas Cowboys, receiving a second Sports Emmy®. In 2009, HARD KNOCKS spotlighted the Cincinnati Bengals and captured two more Sports Emmy® Awards, for Outstanding Edited Series/Anthology and Outstanding Post-Produced Audio/Sound. In 2010, the New York Jets were featured and the series captured three Sports Emmys®, including Outstanding Edited Series/Anthology. Summer 2012 spotlighted the Miami Dolphins, earning an Emmy® in the category of Outstanding Post-Produced Audio/Sound. The Bengals were featured again in 2013 and the series captured three more Sports Emmys®, for Outstanding Editing, Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics and Outstanding Post Produced Audio/Sound. The 2014 series featuring the Falcons was recognized with the Emmy® for Outstanding Music Composition/Direction/Lyrics.

Each of the last five teams featured on HARD KNOCKS has improved its won-loss record in the regular season immediately following the training camp presentation.

TIME called the show "riveting," while NFL.com hailed the series as "undoubtedly the greatest football program in the history of the television medium." Business Week observed, "As a workplace drama, it ranks among the best on television," and New York's Daily News termed it "the gold standard of sports reality programming." ESPNW wrote, "The return of the NFL season also means the return of one of the best shows on television, ‘Hard Knocks.' This rare look at how any given moment can be the end of a season or even a career." Grantland.com observed, "Hard Knocks is when it really feels like we're getting football back in our lives."

HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE HOUSTON TEXANS is narrated by Liev Schreiber.

Just hope HBO will portray the team that they need to be and want to be. And not make them out to be jerks. HBO did that with the Fins and Miami has since regereted it!

It seems like it will be an intrusion and an inconvenience. If I was a coach, I would be very ticked off because it is not football and has nothing to do with winning. Some of the players will sometimes be hamming it up for the cameras instead of working. Also, why would we want to give any info of any sort away, unintentionally or not. Will definitely be watching, though.

Fat chance. We're not the east coast children they would fall on their swords for. I expect show biz to trump reality as usual.

I don't think Hard Knocks had much to do with the final product that the Dolphins fielded in 2012. They had a first year head coach after three consecutive losing seasons under head coach Tony Sparano and were starting a rookie QB. If they had high expectations that season, they were based on hope and idealism more than actual reality.

I don't think the cameras are a huge deal. Yeah guys will notice them. Yeah some things will be different....and while I can't relate exactly I've had cameras and stuff all around during games and practice in high school and college.....but more than that when I was teaching at sharps town frontline did a pbs special called dropout nation. Again MUCH smaller scale however the cameras were around a lot...interviews of students and staff...personal stuff caught on camera....after a while it became normal....really it never felt extremely invasive....again not exactly the same....I just don't see it being a huge issue unless they make it a huge issue. I don't see ob letting his team slack off from work because hard knocks is there.

I have watched a lot of this show, and do not remember seeing anyone hamming it up. I would imagine if anyone is caught acting in such a manner will be in the HC office real quick for a reminder of how they do Billy Ball. Remember these men have prides too and do not want to look like fools in front of their family and friends across the nation.
