Game plan Baltimore

Mr.Scarface

Waterboy

6th player ever to do it, and 2nd player to do it twice in a season, and only one to ever do it in 16 games.
He did it against 0-9 and 2-7 (a team that was PLAYING WORSE when Jackson played them).

I would think Baltimore gameplan is keep Watson on sidelines. I really look forward to texans Run D v ravens rush offense. Gonna be fun stuff.

I dont think ravens D can handle our O

Next week gonna be fun
The Ravens average 196 rushing yards per game. I’m not so sure the Texans D can slow that freight train down

Hey the dude has balled out all year …. I was one of those who said he wouldn't keep it up , he's proving me wrong week after week - Harbaugh has done a hell of a job putting him in situations that favor his abilities.
Isn’t that the coach's primary job??
Harbaugh & co. Started that process PRE-draft.
Makes me wonder why The Texans didn’t do something similar - from the beginning - with Watson

Harbaugh and Newsome have always been on top of things a lot better than the Mcnairs and OB.

Watson is a better QB than Jackson though. He has much better abilities as a passer than Jackson and has long term potential in this league while Jackson likely doesn't.

I'm in a hurry, so I didn't read the thread - but just quickly, I would approach it not that much different than last week vs. the mustache. Contain, contain, contain - maintain lane integrity and maintain discipline. Sure, at times this may lead to young Mr. Jackson having plenty of time but still that's how I'd approach it. If you flush him out of the pocket, he's even more dangerous so better to contain him and hope that your secondary can hold up.

And when he takes off, whether flushed or by design, don't over pursue cause he will cut back easily...and when it does happen, we need another guy behind him. He's going to get some rushes for sure but just try not to let something amazing happen, especially late. I expect this to be an epic match-up among two of the top three young QB's in the game. I give the edge to Baltimore, but I'm not counting Mr. Watson and team out either. How this game can be a noon start is beyond me. This is showcase material and should be on Sunday night, but I digress.

Texans play Thursday then Sunday night against the Pats, three straight PT games are not in the cards and since we play Thursday, having a night away game would suck. Agree this is the marquee game but happy as heck it ain't flexed

Well sure. I mean getting a perfect passer rating against a good team is not possible. DW4 did against the Falcons who are a 2-7 team. It makes the accomplishment no less impressive. At least to me anyway. Jackson missed one throw all game. The other was a spike to stop the clock. ANYTIME a perfect passer rating happens it is impressive. There have only been 61 to ever do it, 7 have done it more than once, 2 have done it in the same season, and the record for a career is 4. Lamar is 16 games into a career and is halfway there.

DW4 also has a very real chance at having it as well. Saying the competition is not great is fairly obvious. NO GOOD defense has had it happen to them.

A spy doesn't have to be as fast as the QB. It is about angles.
Pete Carroll is on record saying that Jackson is faster than he looks on film. That speed will blow the angles for Cunningham. Honestly, the only player on either team as fast as Jackson is probably Will Fuller.

The Texans will have there hands full stopping the Ravens rushing attack. It has been nothing short of amazing in Jackson's 16 starts.

The Ravens may have the record for most yards rushing in 16 games in NFL history. I could not find that stat to verify it anywhere.

Jackson's 2018 7 starts:

11/18/2018 - Bengals: 267 Team Rushing Yards
11/25/2018 - Raiders: 242 Team Rushing Yards
12/02/2018 - Falcons: 207 Team Rushing Yards
12/09/2018 - Chiefs: 194 Team Rushing Yards
12/16/2018 - Buccaneers: 242 Team Rushing Yards
12/22/2018 - Chargers: 159 Team Rushing Yards
12/30/2018 - Browns: 296 Team Rushing Yards
-------------------------
2018 Team Rushing Yards 1607

2019 Team Rushing Yards 1775

Total Team Rushing Yards in Jackson's 16 starts: 3382
Ravens record in Jackson's 16 starts: 13/3

Having said all that I still believe the Texans can win this game if all the important pieces are healthy.

Um, the defensive doesn't have to be as fast to contain Jackson. That's why scheme for teams/players.

Cunningham isn't anywhere near fast enough to spy Lamar Jackson. It has to be a db, and a fast db at that.
I think Cunningham would spy Jackson just fine. He doesn't have to catch him, just stay in front of him & make him run towards the sidelines.

But I like the idea of blitzing DBs. Maybe they can catch him before he gets to the LOS.

You do realize they have both played 9 games.

Right now Jackson is ahead in the only stat that really matters.
Ravens 7/2
Texans 6/3

If we want to quiet the talk all we have to do is beat the Ravens.
Which we will.

I’m just saying, Mahomes throws a no look td, media talks about it the rest of the year.

Lamar scores on an elusive run, “this will be replayed for years”..

deshaun gets kicked in the face and throws a td with one eye to win the game, the media doesn’t hype him up the same as the other two.

I hope Watson throws 7 tds Sunday and break every passing game record for that disrespect.

theyre pushing the Lamar Mvp narrative hard. It’s crazy how deshaun has a bye week and still has better stats than him. #thedisrespect
So now you're hating on Lamar Jackson all because he's getting some praise? Lol!

You were just shitting on Mahomes before this over the same thing.

Who is next?

Watson has gotten a ton of praise this season. Drop this inferiority complex over Watson. Other QB's can play well too.

I agree. He has the intangibles, no denying that. We still haven't seen how he faces adversity. Lamars father was killed when he was younger. Has a little brother that looks up to him and was drafted after 31 players. I think that puts a chip on anyone shoulders. The raven fans should be very happy right now. Top 10 defense that can bail lj out. Just beat brady and the pats. This is there window of opportunity with watson and mahomes having weak defenses at the moment. People were upset when I said mahomes wasn't a winner, I think he lost yesterday lol. I think Ljs a winner. I dont see how he dropped to 32. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.
I’m not hating on Lamar. I’m rooting for him but against us? Sure, I hate him. Why should I like him? I’m not a ravens fan. I’m a Texans fan so I hope Lamar fails against us.

As far as mahomeless goes, I said he wasn’t a winner and I stand by it. He had a fluke mvp season. When things get tough like not having a defense and solid o line, he folds under pressure. Wilson and Watson are much better because there winners.

There is no greater pressure than facing Brady and the Pats in the AFC Championship game being down 3 with under a minute on the clock.

Mahomes didn't fold under pressure …. He lost in OT to Brady and the Patriots never touching the ball in OT.
The last time he had the ball there was 31 second left and they were down 31-28 - He got them points to force OT on 4 plays in 23 seconds.

If anything , he was let down by his defense just like Watson has been.

He played great …. So did the other team.

Mahomes , Watson and Jackson are all special players … no need to diminish any one of them.

They can't stop him individually. They'll have to play disciplined football and plug the gaps. Gap integrity and sealing the edge will be of utmost importance. Then attack him by committee and converge on him from every direction. Not one on one.
Obviously but the question then becomes, can our corner backs hold up?

I think the corners will be fine. We'll have Roby back on one side and Conley on they other with Joseph and Johnson backing them up. And with Gipson back and Reid, Addae, and Moore helping him out in the backfield, the secondary should be up to the task.
It's those outside linebackers that should worry us. How will Mercilus and Scarlett hold up setting the edges and keeping contain on Jackson? That's the big question. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Popularity is a 'flavor of the week' type of emotion. IF Deshaun can play well vs BMore and shine then I would fully expect the narrative to shift towards him being the "next big thing/savior of the NFL" ... you have to also remember that for many varied reasons Houston seems to always get overlooked and neglected by the national audience. It is what it is. Add to that the current climate of "HATE EVERYTHING ASTROS & ROCKETS RELATED" and you get sucked into those respective situations as a fanbase, and how others may perceive a completely different franchise; albeit; within the same city.

Its actually a great time to be a football fan IMO, its been a while since the league had a true talent injection at the QB position. It will be fun watching how these guys career arcs trend.

I admire your passion and I wouldn't label anything you posted as being a "hater" you do have a valid point at how these guys are getting showcased. I think after Sunday guys like me and you, who have gone "all in" with Deshaun as the franchise saving QB we have been waiting for (#JESUSwithCleats!!) will be fulfilled in their support.

At this point if I take off my homer glasses I don't know that I disagree with Wilson winning it.
Very deserving no doubt he has had a great year so far and I would agree is in the drivers seat ... but the year isnt over yet. Still enough time to sway opinion especially if the Seahawks drop a couple of games. The schedule IMO shapes out more favorably to have Deshaun come out in front if he can continue to play at a high level - and yes thats with my wrap around, 360 degree, ski goggle, homer blinders on, but I have an argument - just like fans of LJ, CMAC, ARod and Russ do, and it starts with Deshaun winning this weekend, and then beating the Patriots in convincing fashion. If those two outcomes play out - the rest of the guys better have some sort of 'insta-classic' type performances.

Watson's path to MVP is winning the next 3 games. If they're able to pull that off, I would bet on Watson winning it. He would absolutely deserve it at that point.

They vote end of regular season, so no, won't be the post season that decides. I agree with you that who leads their team to the promised land is true MVP, but does not work that way
Thanks for clarifying. I was thinking one of the reasons JJ Watt didn’t get the MVP, outside of not playing QB, was that the Packers went farther than the Texans in the playoffs. Maybe it was the Texans not making the playoffs.

But we all know the real reason:
1. Didn’t play QB.
2. It was Houston.

You want me to be brutally honest with you? Mahomes wasn't let down by his defense. That defense was let down by Mahomes. 2+ turnovers vs brady/bill and played well up until the midway point of the 4th but thats a topic for another day.

Going through this thread is Deja vu. Not too long ago, the crazy mahomes talk and now its Jackson. Everyone's worried and than I tell you the Watson stat where he hasn't lost by more than 7 points this season. Get called a homer, we win and Magician watson strikes again. What seperates him from every other young qb is his champion trait. He's done it on every stage unlike most young qbs in todays game. He's poised like Brady and delivers in the moment. That confidence carries on wherever he goes.

Mahomes and Jackson hasnt developed that trait yet. That trait, ice in your veins, the right decisions are made in the 4th qtr to give your team the lead in crunch time. Certain qbs have it like Rodgers, Wilson, Brees, prime Brady and Watson. Mahomes showed a flash of it in the conf championship game. He hasn't done it consistent for me to crown him. He just lost to the titans.

The Ravens arent good vs qbs who can beat you with there feet. They lost to Baker and Mahomes. Watson fits the same category. This might get ugly

I don't know where you get your material from but there is some gaping holes.

Neither Baker not Mahomes are what you should call elusive. And we lost to both.

Now Russel Wilson and Kyler Murray are. And we handled them both with relative ease.

And then let's address this "championship trait." You say it's making the right decisions in the 4th quarter to give a team a lead. So I ask, Prime Brady? Do you think he has diminished mental capacity now, that he was better at the mental game 10 years ago? I can't buy that.

There is a lot of conjecture in this. What has Watson won? Nothing of note in this league. Neither has Jackson so saying one is more accomplished than the other is kind of silly.

There are plenty of things to be excited about as a Texan fan, and a Watson fan, but that part didn't make a ton of sense to me.

Your entire post is fake news.

Mahomes hasn't been clutch? Stop lying already. He's been on an NFL stage that Watson hasn't even played on yet and delivered. You keep trying to justify one myth by further digging up new lies to support it.

The reality is if Mahomes or Jackson was on the Texans, you'd be bashing Watson right now and saying trying to apply the same deficiencies to him that you are to other QB's like Mahomes.
Everyone knows mahomes isn’t clutch. No one said him or Jackson sucked btw. Maybe because I don’t praise them like that and have confidence in our qb which might make you mad. So be it but you obviously won’t present any evidence to show Mahomes is clutch. I guess, keep bringing up the conference championship game where he still lost. Doing it one or two games and losing on top of that doesn’t make a player clutch btw but continue on with your little rant and try your hardest to make us believe otherwise.

I highlighted what separates Watson from the young qbs in today’s game and I get criticized about it which makes absolutely no sense. I get it man, everyone wants to praise Mahomes and Jackson which is cool but I’m not praising anybody I feel we can beat which will be the case on Sunday.

Mahomes has a problem with holding onto the ball. I let it pass when he played us but than I watch the titans game and his fumble that was returned for a td was the difference in the game. He’s a good football player. He just isn’t clutch and he doesnt have that same winner mentality as the greats in every sport. You’re starting to see it more

It has already been pointed out to you by Corrosion earlier. There are numerous games. The AFC Championship game in particular when he brought the KC Chiefs back to tie the game to go into OT where his defense couldn't stop Brady on the first drive. Mahomes did his part and was clutch on the highest level and most important moment his career has ever given him. A moment Watson hasn't even gotten to yet.

So spare us with your bullshit. You are just spewing new lies to cover up the old ones by saying that no one provided evidence for you. You saw the evidence and didn't forget. You just repeated the same lies despite them already being corrected.

Obviously you’re a lj fan which is cool man. I’m just here to restore order and...

You asked what has Watson done? Oh, nothing really I guess, besides carry his bottom 5 defense and lead the worst offensive line to the playoffs with a 11-5 record all while recovering from a acl injury. Oh wow, surprisingly I see he just won the afc offensive player of the month and has broken about 10 records since his rookie season. I think he’s also a pro bowler but than again none of that is notable, right? Hopefully Lamar can become a pro bowler too one day. Lastly, if this counts. He’s undefeated against Lj and Mahomes which again shows he’s a natural winner. I’ll comeback Sunday man. I already know what’s going to happen but you know you guys keep praising Lamar lol

Off the top of my head I can name 3 games this season that proves he isn’t clutch. vs Colts, titans and Texans.

with 6:00 mins remaining in all of those games, he failed to score to secure his team the victory. You see the difference between saying someone’s clutch and actually dropping facts to back it up? I rest my case

Keep fighting the good fight Danny! Im afraid that you might be better off debating this topic with the nearest wall however. When the MOB mentality takes over here it shuts down any productive conversation and somehow having to acquiesce to other fanbases is some sort of high road? FK THAT! Its Texans above everyone! Watson>Mahomes/ Watson>>Jackson / Watson>>>>>>>>>>>Trubisky (if you go back into the draft day threads you can see how many of these guys wanted Trubisky over Watson to give yourself a good chuckle)

Watson has had to overcome the incompetence of the GM/Head Coach/Owner/ Offensive Line coach and the entire Special teams unit while here. TALK ABOUT MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING!

I don't care about the others, he is aces and will just get better and make those around him better. Whether he is better is up to people's judgement, but I am so glad he plays for the team I bleed for and would not trade him for anyone. Good times ahead

Need a bigger sample size of playoff games for both QBs before dubbing anyone clutch.

Even then can you separate a great individual performance from a loss? (Qb #1 threw for 400yds and 4tds but his team lost - must not be clutch.) Or can you make an honest assessment when the quality of competition may be different? (Qb #1 beat the wildcard team. Qb#2 had an equitable performance, but lost to the #1 seed.)

I've seen clutch performances from both guys ,but want more. Water finds its level.
