Game 5...Extreme test...Minnesota Vikings!

What? Has he done anything special?

He's playing smart, protecting the football. Not taking any unnecessary hits, or risks. But he's not blowing any minds, or making incredible plays. He's just Sam.

Don't get me wrong, it's pretty dang good since he wasn't on the team until a week before the season started. But it's a work in progress, most likely playing a lot better in December than he is now.

Actually I was just comparing him to the dogshit he usually plays, not Tom terrific

Just curious, and this question goes out to any Vikings fans as well, but do you guys think Sam Bradford is a better quarterback than a healthy Teddy Bridgewater?

Seems like everybody is crowning Sam Bradford like he's a great quarterback or something. Calm down just a second! He's been injury prone his entire career. I applaud his success so far this season but it's been four games. I'm not ready to hand over the Lombardi Trophy to the Minnesota Vikings just yet. Like some in the media seem to be doing.

I've been impressed with what the Vikings have been able to accomplish on offense without Adrian Peterson. They are not flashy or exciting to watch offensively, but they haven't been turning the ball over. Sam Bradford is a brilliant game manager. The Vikings are +10 in turnovers this season which also aids to their 4-0 record. I hope the Texans defense can find a way to force some turnovers on Sunday.

I'll take the Texans wide receivers over the Vikings secondary any day of the week.

I'm just trying to be nice to our guests.

My main concern is can our banged up offensive line give Brock Osweiler enough time to make some big plays in the passing game?

I don't think we have a Super Bowl calibre line, but I think they've been doing a fine job protecting Osweiler. Not fantastic. Not wonderful. But Osweiler is among the least sacked QBs so far this season. We haven't faced a pass rush like Minnesota will bring, & Brock is doing his job navigating the pocket & getting the ball out on time.

A good running attack will certainly help us. Lamar Miller has been more impressive than I could have asked for so far this season. We've been overworking him to be honest. He's been a workhorse back so far.

I have to agree. Hopefully he'll start breaking off some big plays for us. Doubt they will come this weekend, but we can hope.

Duane Brown is very likely going to make his 2016 season debut against the Vikings on Sunday! Our offensive line is about to receive a much needed jolt. Having that anchor at left tackle is huge.

I'm trying not to feel too excited until it's officially announced later in the week, but Bill O'Brien just mentioned for the second time today that Duane Brown's knee hasn't been giving him any lingering pain. He's been responding well to all of the workouts and drills he's been going through.

Duane Brown could be rusty though but this is still an All-Pro talent. It shouldn't take him long to get back into the full swing of things.

That's really good, cuz if he had a knee problem on top of the quad issues we probably wouldn't see him again

The Quad bone is connected to the knee bone. The knee bone is connected to the other leg bone...

We can win this game. Not guaranteeing we will but I think we can.
Speed is the key. Make them chase sideline to sideline. Gas 'em.
Didja see the big gain the Giants had on that screen pass to Perkins? The Vikes couldn't catch him.
We have Speed and I suggest we use it.

If we play 3 yds-&-a-cloud of turf football we're dead.

Perkins made a play.

We need to get better at making plays. Lamar Miller has been a tucked shoelace away from making a big play all year.

Fuller has made a couple. Griffen made one. We need to keep chop'n wood, get the ball in our play makers hands & hope we make enough plays.

Speed is the only advantage we have on offense. Ob better be strapped in to call this game. quick hitters. Missdirection. Deep balls. Screens. Show me something inventive. Use that speed and snap off motion for cleaner releases. The defense should NEVER know what's comming next. Protect the ball. Get the ball to your skill players in space. Hit people in stride. I saw db's a foot off wr's on Monday night. I want that. Mix in a max protect and take shots downfield when the opportunity presents itself.

Play a clean game. Play field position. No bafoon coaching calls. Honest challenges and legit clock management. Defense. Time to earn your rep. Nobody's talking about you in this one. Make'em talk.

We CAN win this one but i wouldn't bet on it.

Just to be clear....

Going for it on fourth down and handing the ball off late in the 4th quarter is considered a bafoon coaching call.

Right?

With this Viking D we're about to face, we should be thinking 4 downs if we cross their 40.

Dunno.... Are we ahead? And if so, by how much and how much time is left to burn up? Are we in FG range?
Gotta give me more situational info dude.

We don't win this one or the next one. Take a two week vacation. Will OB ever give what's'isface a chance at QB?

depends on why we lost.

whatever you think of Brock's play, that's the bar. he will have to play much, much worse to get benched.

34% completion 6 fumbles 8 interceptions all in the same game.

I've got nothing against Savage. if he ever gets another opportunity to play in the regular season I hope he shows all of us that he should have been named starter a long time ago.

but it is what it is & we are where we're at. I'm not going to go through the short NFL season upset about something that didn't happen.

That's essentially what they did. I know Hopkins was picked before him, but they targeted him the entire time. They could have taken Hopkins at 25 and maybe landed Rhodes at 29.

Speaking of questionable moves, I thought for sure the Vikes would wear PRN patches in their jerseys all year after losing Minneapolis' favorite son. That would have been a beautiful gesture not soon forgotten.

On to the game, I actually feel like we match up well with Minnesota.

I don't. Their secondary is legit. Look what it did to Beckham and Cruz. Those two guys are burners. Look what that secondary did to Rodgers, Cobb and Nelson. Barely 200 yds passing. Their D line is nasty, our line is gonna have problems. We may be down to one TE, Griffin.

I don't think it's a good matchup at all. The Texans are gonna have its hands full Sunday.

Texans need to sting them early with the long ball and get them separated. Minnesota is favored, and they are one of the toughest teams right now, but we're capable of the upset. Brock needs to have his first game with no turnovers, and our defense needs one or two on their side of the field.

This will be a tough game for sure but it is very winnable. I envision a well coached game by both O'Brien and Crennel. Brock will have his best game as a Texans and he won't throw a pick. Miller will run hard but there won't be that many open holes to run threw. He will be very pivotal in the passing game. Hopkins will have a great game and we will see some Fuller magic.

Texans 34
Vikings 17

The Vikings haven't allowed more than 17 points in 7 straight games. And we're going to double that number with our anemic offense that hasn't produced 30+ points one time this year?

We may be down to one TE, Griffin.

I don't think it's a good matchup at all. The Texans are gonna have its hands full Sunday.

I think it might be better to supplement our pass pro with running backs/full backs out of the back field. TEs on the line don't have time to set up their blocks against those ends. Having Blue & Prosh setting back off the line a bit may help us set up those double teams a bit better... it's just an idea.

I said Blue earlier, last week I think he did a very very good job picking up blitzes & chipping pass rushers. I still haven't got a feel for Lamar Miller's pass protection.

I'll take the Texans wide receivers over the Vikings secondary any day of the week.

I know you have a good group and obviously you're a Texans fan, but it's probably even. Harrison Smith is a top 3 safety, Sendejo is a solid secondary safety, and then they have quite a bit of depth at corner with Rhodes, Newman, Waynes, and Captain.

Not to argue, may just be semantics. But he's had some pretty good talent around him. His problem has been injury & Chip Kelly. But those were some pretty good teams, even in St Louis. Their fortunes would have been much better if Bradford could have put together just two back to back healthy seasons.

He's never had the talent has he now, though.

100%. I hate to say it was best for the team because it was such an awful injury and I hope nothing but the best for Teddy, but Bradford is a much better fit for this team.

He has a much better arm, instincts, and is much more willing to throw it to a guy that may be covered but you have to throw him open. Teddy is a great guy, mobile, and I think he was about to take the next step, but Bradford will be the QB moving forward.

The biggest thing for me is that it finally moves this team to 2016 in terms of offensive approach. AP was a great Viking, but his days are over in Minnesota. At this point, he was holding the team back and not just in terms of his salary. He can't catch or block, and the Vikings resorted to just pounding the ball because he's Adrian Peterson. Finally, they can balance the playbook and utilize the entire roster.

I'll take 3 please!

Add some rum or vodka in there as well. Let's get turnt up

Yep we will drop 30 on them.

Yeah I thought they may as well. But they did have a nice tribute during the game against the Packers.

Prince imo was the greatest musician ever. He was set to play the first concert at US Bank Stadium which would have been unbelievable.

Not to mention 34-17 doesn't scream tough game to me.

The Texans have a chance to steal a game with some high end talent and great coaching, but 34-17 is a bold prediction.

So who gets Hopkins, Rhodes? Or do the corners stay on one side of the field? I haven't paid much attention. Hopkins and Fuller are a good combo but I think the Vikings secondary will give them fits. Smith is a straight up bad ass at Safety. This game is either going to be the Patriots game all over again or the Texans surprise everyone and whip the crap out of the Vikings. I'm leaning toward the former....I hope to hell I'm wrong though.

Lol

I was talking about what Obrien did in this last game.

Up by 7, late in the game, out of field goal range...

Vikings pass defense week 1

Five sacks on Rodgers week 1

You've hit on another key.
Against the Titans, they got two TDs from the defense in week one - NONE from their offense. Did I mention that the Titans were up 10-zip at one point.
Took Rodgers & co. out of their game with the five sacks you mentioned in game two. I doubt that will happen when the Packers play them again.
Sacked Cam Newton EIGHT times in game three and got three picks.
Took Eli's best weapons away by getting into Beckham's head on and had Victor Cruz looking over his shoulder on Monday night.

Gotta maintain our poise against these guys. We can steal this one with our speed.

I would assume Rhodes will cover him the majority, but this year they have been rotating corners in more with Waynes taking a step in his progression to keep everyone fresh.

Again, Zimmer is known for shutting down or limiting big receivers but obviously you can't shut down everyone and Hopkins is just as good as any. I think Hopkins needs a big game for the Texans to win. Like 180 and 2 tds which isn't impossible.

Eh... Vikings had 5 sacks against them the last time they played as well.

No doubt the offense has been a slow starter all year, but Week 1 was with Shaun Hill at QB. You may not like Bradford, but he's at least twice as good as Hill.

The Texans lose because their offense hasn't proven themselves and Minny has a great defense

What are your thoughts on the running game? Averaged 50 yards a game before this last week getting 100. Sustainable? Problem fixed? Worry point?

I've been mourning the past 2 weeks off that week 3 loss. Don't see Texans lighting up the field on this defense, but if we can keep the Vikings under 17 points we may win this game. I really don't see 3 TD 2 FG game from us or anything more than 21 points from our side. Field position will be a huge factor IMO. If Vikings can get consistent pressure just from the D-Line we're screwed. I'm not too optimistic about this one.

Texans - ehh
Vikings - mehh

I don't know where people are getting the idea that the reason we have so few sacks is due to great pass protection. IMO it's been Brock bailing out from the pocket, or throwing the pigskin quickly that has kept that number low. We've had very few 3+ second plays where Brock got to stand there and go through reads. Normally he's forced to elude people by then.

What are your thoughts on the running game? Averaged 50 yards a game before this last week getting 100. Sustainable? Problem fixed? Worry point?
I think it's been fixed (and honestly they should have had more last week but McKinnon was dancing a bit. I think with McKinnon and Asiata in it gives a little more unpredictability because it could be run or pass. When AP was in, 95% chance it was a pass. Also, the run blocking was so awful in those first three games that it couldn't continue.

How about your guys' thoughts on the matchup. Which areas do you see the Texans taking advantage of?
I'm honestly trying to think of an area we have a definitive advantage. Probably our passing game vs. your pass defense, but that's only if we can keep Osweiler upright.

How about your guys' thoughts on the matchup. Which areas do you see the Texans taking advantage of?

I really don't see an advantage, what it's going to come down to is forcing your offense to beat our defense. Essentially controlling turnovers. I predict we'll go with safer passing options this game like screens, throws to the RBs, we'll also probably lean on the Stretch run game a little more. At most we'll see 4-5 deep balls if they get a look, but it'll be the "Lets see if I can overthrow Fuller" game, just to keep your safeties back.

How about your guys' thoughts on the matchup. Which areas do you see the Texans taking advantage of?

I see us running some trick plays or deep balls early in the game. Fake punt on the Vikings 45. Something to get points in early. Mainly for that because we have keep the defense guessing what we're doing. Vikings defense is just too solid to get down early. I will be a long day for us if we keep getting in 3rd and long. Brock like to lock on a receiver. I know the Vikings know that, so maybe we do slip screens a lot to get players out in space. Problem is our O-Line just isn't good enough to give Brock the time to look down field and wait for the double move to get open.

You guys bring up really good points.

One thing I saw mentioned was turnovers. The Vikings don't an actual offensive turnover yet (only one was a defensive fumble recovery that they then fumbled). Now, I don't think that's been all luck and some has been by design, but sooner or later you'll have that game with a couple of turnovers.

How about your guys' thoughts on the matchup. Which areas do you see the Texans taking advantage of?

Honestly? The Vikings running game. Take away the one 25 yard run by McKinnon and he and the rest of the team average 3 yards a carry. Prevent a big run, and it puts more pressure on Bradford. More pressure on Bradford and I think he reverts to being Bradford. He has done things in these three games that are a step change from his entire career. 65% accuracy when he is 60% for career. 7.5 YPA when he is 6.5 for his career. No turnovers when averaging almost 1 per game for his career. I expect at some point for Bradford to regress to the mean, and the Texans are the toughest defense he will have played at this point in the season. Not that he will collapse into a fetal position while handing the ball to Wilfolk for a rumblin' stumblin' bumblin' defensive TD. But I do expect that the Texans D will bring him down from his "perfect" play and will generate some mistakes on his part.

For the record......I wanted the Texans to go after both Zimmer and Bradford. They obviously didn't listen to me

This is preposterous because it's so early, but I honestly believe Zimmer will be in the Belichick class when it's all said and done. He's freaking phenomenal. I can't believe teams passed on him for so long.
