Game 2...Home Opener...Jacksonville Jaguars!

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, September 15th 2019 at 12:00 noon CST, The Jacksonville Jaguars will be in town to take on our Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. The game will be aired locally on TV on CBS 11 and on radio on Sports Radio 610 AM.

After a close, heartbreaking loss to the Saints on Monday night, O'Brien and Crennel need to come out with a much more aggressive game plan both offensively and defensively.
Crennel can't keep using soft zones and play conservatively after getting the lead. That never works out well for the Texans. And rushing 3 is only going to keep Watt out of the backfield. How will he be able to do anything if he's double and triple teamed the whole game and Crennel is calling plays that will allow that to happen? That has got to stop.

Here are the teams.

Your Houston Texans
Offense:
WR DeAndre Hopkins
LT Laremy Tunsil, Roderick Johnson

With Foles out for the season, the Jaguars will have to rely on rookie backup Gardner Minshew II.
Romeo needs to dial up a very aggressive game plan and rush 4 to 6 every single play. Get the kid confused and keep him guessing and running. And don't let up. Crennel also needs to be more aggressive with the secondary and play up on the receivers and pound on them coming off the line. This playing off and soft zone play calling is going to do nothing but allow receivers to go for the easy underneath stuff all the time. Tighten up those zones and play more man coverage. Mix it up to keep the quarterback and receivers off balance. Just stay aggressive on the line and in the secondary the whole game. Throw the conservative mind set out the window when the Texans get a lead.
On offense, the O-line needs to get allot better. Watson can not continue to take a beating.
With all the high draft picks and getting Tunsil and still take 6 sacks in 1 game? That will not do.
Protecting Watson should be of paramount importance. Get this O-line right!
If Watson has even just a little more time, he'll destroy defenses with his arm and all the weapons he has. The improved running game will help considerably.
The Texans should be able to run away with this game and build confidence throughout the team.
The Texans will take it big.

A few of the sacks we took Monday night had to do with our WR's taking too long for plays to develop. We need to get to the point where our offense resembles offensive power houses like the KC Chiefs.

Great game for RAC to go back to the drawing board and, as they say in wrestling, learn a new move. Backup QB or a newly traded for player that hasn't had time to get a motel room much less learn the book. They should be able to manhandle the QBs and a workable but not great line that they should be able to push past. Likewise what offensive weapons do Jags actually have? I'm seriously asking as I can't think of any of note. Should be no excuse for the defense not to slap them around at will.

Offense side the Jags, on paper, have a good defense that was suppose to be top 5. Mahomes exposed that and there is no reason Watson can't either. Jags will be looking for redemption but the Texans should be as well and this is a great game to get a better idea what we have in the line. I'm not expecting them to be fully in sync yet but now with a game and week of training hoping they at least have a feel for the guys next to them. I have full faith in Watson and our WR and now, this feels odd to say, RBs to put points on the board. I just hope Watson doesn't get killed to do it.

We SHOULD easily win this game. I say should because the team has a history of performing poorly against QB's who are making their first start in place of a much better injured QB.

I still say we win:

Opening line of 8-8.5 point spread feels like its kinda high. Hope to see the defense play better against an average at best offense. Will hope that the offense can continue to be exciting against another stout defense.

Last week, they got thrashed by a QB they could've had instead of Fournette. Let's keep that pattern going and yet show them another QB they could've had instead of Fournette.

With the rookie starting at QB, RAC goes extremely aggressive, forcing three turnovers. The offense doesn't do much, because simply, they don't have to. Hyde has 100 yards rushing, Watson just 200 yards passing.

You’re wrong, here’s why.

The logical thing to do would be call plays that gets the ball out your qb hands quicker. Short intermediate passes like rodgers, Brady and brees. Its not the receiver fault the stupid head coach is calling deep routes to get Deshaun sacked.

I've seen it at -9 now on some sites.
my instinct would be to throw some money at JAX covering because of the divisional rival and how intense and close those games tend to be and how bad we are at game planning for new QBs.

We're going to have a lot of trouble containin Minshew. He is slippery and has a pretty damn good arm. He made some big time throws when he came in after Nick Foles went down. I can see this game being closer than it should be.

Good arm? Why are you making this up?

If he had an average arm he would have went early on day 2.

Maybe but Chiefs also don't have a defense, its why people are saying they won't beat the Pats this year, so that could have helped. Plus they game planned for Foles not for a rookie, RAC knows that it will either be the rookie or the desperate trade they just made for a guy I don't think I'd even heard of.

Really? Minshew threw for 4776 yards his only season at Washington State with 38 td's and only 9 int's and a QB rating of 147.5. I would rather face Foles than Minshew.

Besides, there is another pretty good QB who was also a 6th round pick.

I want to see this defense try something new. Maybe double there #1 receiver with a safety and #2 db.

I would like for Ob to call plays to get the ball out of Deshaun hands quickly avoiding a sack. No more predictable runs up the middle on first & second down.

If we loose to a backup qb with no true #1 receiver although I think Westbrook’s underrated. O’Brien will be fired. I’m calling it. Must win game for him

There have been plenty of QB’s that have had great college careers in air raid systems who couldn’t hack it in the NFL. Once you get in to the NFL when linebackers are as athletic as college corners then things change quite a bit.

This could be closer than you think.
Jags are a divisional rival with a solid D.
Their Dline gave us grief last season so we need our Oline to work well and help us put together some long drives again.
I think we win it also but prolly only by 2 TDs.

Tend to agree.
Cal seems aggressive so he might just clean house and bring in a GM while he's at it.

He will not be fired for losing to the Jags. Too many people still believe his scapegoating so Cal will not pull the trigger. In fact, I think we would have to go 4-12 or worse for Cal to sack him.

O'Brien is the Texans Rasputin. C'est l'vie.

Enjoy this win. Texans 30, Jags 12

I was wrong about last week. I thought it would be a great example of the Texans not being prepared while the Saints were well prepared. It was the opposite for most of the game, and we still lost. So it was a perfect example of the other kind of losses I expect many of this year, the close games we usually win but now will lose. Drew Brees + Will Lutz ≠ Andy Dalton + Randy Bullock.

I wonder if a qb has ever been pulled from a game for not listening to his hc. Honestly if I was dw and O’Brien called deep routes resulting in me getting sacked. I would throw the ball away every play he calls that bs.

I doubt it. That’s why Watson has the freedom to audible out. Just like he did when he saw the blitz, he audibled and Hyde ran for like 17 yards on one of the plays.

I'm not going to make a prediction this time around. I just hope the offensive line will be ready for the blitz and stunts that the Jaguars will employ.

And I surely hope the defense doesn't allow this rookie to carve them apart.

No I say that like I'm talking about our offense vs their defense which was the topic. Our defense has nothing to do with your statement nor my reply to it.

So WTF are you talking about? Man, does everyone have to be a total prick when posting on this board any more?

If the Texans defense gets carved up by Minshew and Jacksonville’s wide receivers, I do believe it would be a fireable offense for either Rac or the secondary coach. It just can’t happen.

That Kevin Johnson pick continues to haunt the Texans.

If that happens it will be RAC that goes. Plausible Deniability is a feature, not a bug, of Bob's entire tenure.

PS - I doubt RAC would be sacked even if we get dunked on by another rookie QB.
