Free agents/players I am interested in.

The extra cap $ from Watt perked up my flagging off season interest as I thought significant moves (other than minor back up possibilities) were past.
Two guys I am interested in bringing to Houston are former Oakland center Stefan Wisniewski and Eagles OG Evan Mathis; both would be starters and in prime. Wisie turned 26 March 22 & 6'3" 307. Mathis is 33. Here is some info on each. I was optimistic a move of some type would be made today or tomorrow. Dent was good but not all I hoped for.

Wisniewski:
Wisniewski is recovering from shoulder surgery after last season when he played with a torn labrum. The former second-round pick of the Raiders has made visits to the Seahawks and Bucs, and the Rams and Chiefs are also known to be interested. No team has been willing to meet his request of $4 million per season and it could be he winds up on a one- or two-year prove-it contract.

Just last week Chiefs GM John Dorsey said they were confident in Eric Kush at center but that they're not done turning over every stone. There have been reports of the Chiefs sniffing around other veteran centers. Considering the very, very little experience that Kush has I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of veteran brought in. If that veteran is Wisniewski I will be a little surprised because I thought most of the Chiefs free agent spending was done with. But if Wisniewski can be had for a modest one-year contract? Sign me up. The Chiefs offensive line had plenty of issues last season. If they can avoid a potential issue at center by signing a proven player, go for it.

Mathis:
Pro Football Focus rated Mathis as the best guard in the NFL for the 2011, 2012, and 2013 season. In 2014, after missing 7 games due to injury, he was rated as the 2nd best guard.[9]

Named to the USA Today All-Joe Team after the 2012 season.[10]

Ranked number 6 overall in Pro Football Focus' Top 101 of 2012.[11]

In 2013, Pro Football Focus chose Mathis for its inaugural Bruce Matthews Award recognizing the NFL's best offensive lineman.[

Higher bases than I want at $5.5 and then 6. If X came on, I guess Mathis could be cut if needed. We have cap for him now and could cut Clabo $1.2 m and Ben Jones 1.5 and Yeatman $1 m for Wisie.

i thought ben jones had c locked up?
He's locked in based on no other alternative on roster. We have seen little of him at center and most agree he is not very good a LG. This is his last year of contract. He could be great and come back 2016 with reasonable new deal or Ferentz could be the guy. Lot of finger crossing there.

id rather throw that money at jermaine gresham or brandon spikes
Gresham with a 7 1/2 yard avg and has dropped last three seasons.
The tight end comes with his fair share of dissenters within the Bengals' organization - stemming from inconsistent play on the field and an erratic personality off of it. His inability to play through injury on multiple occasions ruffled feathers inside Paul Brown Stadium.
you really want this guy? http://www.cincinnati.com/story/blo...gresham-still-an-option-for-bengals/70381080/

Spikes?:
Spikes has designs on a three-down role, but GM Doug Whaley has made it clear that's not available in Buffalo. The open market should view Spikes the same way Whaley does. Stopping the run is his speciality. Feb 19 - 6:08 PM

Why did you think that? There's only been speculation by people on forums about who's going to play where since Myers left, nothing actually said by OB, Godsey, or the new line coach that I've heard really substantiates that.

I've been calling for Wisniewski almost since Myers left and I'm hoping he's the guy we land. I'm also hoping that Sua-Filo steps up and takes charge of that LG spot so that Jones can be depth for both Guard and Center.

The problem I see with Jones moving to LG in emergency is Ferentz then is center and that I am not so sure of.

Correction your idea was with Wisie. I am tired and need to go to bed. I would be ok with your sceanrio

And if Jones is our LG like he was for most of last year? That's even worse.

My main thing is that I don't want Jones being our starter at C with Ferentz being the backup. We have to have more depth than that. If both our LG and our C go down, we're going to be moving stuff all around anyway. Probably Jones bounce down to Center and Newton move inside to LG and, at this point, Clabo at RG.

Hopefully we'll pick up some better players for depth but at this point, I'm just worried about starters. I don't want Ben Jones starting on my line unless absotively necessary.

Ah, OK. Ignore my other post then because we probably agree.

Have we talked to Wisniewski, or any center since FA started?

Could Myers come back on a much more reasonable contract? Might be ideal for both sides.

Far as I know, they didn't approach Myers about taking a pay cut which leads me to believe they want to go in a different direction & just don't see Myers as a fit.

I'd be surprised if he ends up in the mix.

I'm forever skittish now whenever I hear anything "labrum".
