FIRE O'BRIEN NOW!!!

Jimmy G had 7 td and 5 ints last year. This year he wasn't playing well either. Now we both can agree the Texans should've drafted a qb that year. I've been on board with drafting a qb for a long time now. To your credit, you were all in for Jimmy G. Personally, I wanted Teddy or Derek.
Man, still a toss up between all three. Dont think OB would have been deal breaker on any

My college coach used to say, be a student of the game , not a fan. Some people on this board are just fans. I'm more of a student and based on your post, I think you're in the same category.

Only a fan would suggest drafting Garoppolo with a first round pick. A student of the game would try to determine where to get him in the 2nd. A gambler would bet house money to get him in the third.

The draft ain't brain surgery surgery like some of y'all make it out to be.

All GMs are wrong majority of the time when it comes to the draft. If you find it easy, then why not make it your profession? They are very well compensated.

BTW, Only thing Jimmy G has proven in this league so far is that he can’t last longer than 5 games. Don’t pat yourself on the back just yet.

Shoulda kicked a FG on 4th and 9. Turned it over on downs, lost by 2. That's dumb play calling based on emotion and what O'Brien imagines and wants to work, not percentages, player skills, or what's already been working in the game.

Going back and forth from conservative to aggressive and back at seemingly random times is manic, bipolar play calling. I think that's what I'll refer to it from now on. No offense to those with bipolar disorder.

Boy, I hate to admit it, I don’t give a damn about Jimmy G. It’s like the ghost of drafts past around here. Between that and the ghost of Gary Kubiak, you’d think the Texans aren’t playing for anything. ****, I’d rather talk about next years draft before talking about things that were or could have been.

Speaking of, I hope Gaine thinks as I do which is you can never have enough weapons for a dynamic young QB like Watson. And also I hope he isn’t counting on Fuller and Coutee to be all he needs. Even if they both come back healthy, more weapons on offense won’t be a bad thing.

I'm not patting my self on the back and I'm much to old to start a new career.

Anyone figure out what the hell BOB was thinking when he failed to decline the holding penalty that would’ve given us an extra 7 yards? I wonder if anyone in the press pool had the nads to ask him.....I mean in the end it had no effect but WTH was he thinking?

I really think he just goes by the gut. He doesn't anticipate situations and he doesn't calculate the percentages

Only if Watson can cover a TE down the seam and a RB out of the flat at the same time can he prevent THIS from happening again.

Honestly, I thought the Texans would lose this game. The frustration comes from the same issues happening over and over again. I think you basically wrote the NFL is using TE’s more effectively which is true. The Texans drafted two, they rarely use them. And they can’t stop the opposing TE’s. I believe Efert caught 11 passes for over a hundred yards and 2 TD’s today, something like that?

On the other side of the ball, someone needs to tell O’Brien that you can use RB’s in different ways. He’s seen his defense get gashed by even fullbacks running free for long passing plays. He’s seen his very own feature running back do that against him when he was playing for the Dolphins! Yet what do we see? Miller up the middle (not today, of course).

When will this coaching staff learn?

Lastly, this wasn’t a good loss. Not only did they lose the game they lost Thomas and maybe KJ. Their receiving core and secondary is decimated.

Yeah, it seems so obvious and alot of this goes on RAC also. They give up too many uncontested passes. I mean early in the game, 4th and 1, where else is Foles going to go besides the rb in the flat or Ertz? 3rd and 10 late in the game, why not bracket Ertz? Philly was 4-4 on 4th downs. The defense have been giving up easy throws all season. I dont know if its RAC playcalling or the personel of the team. I give RAC the benefit of the doubt. BOB on the other hand. 1st Texans scoring drive, 3rd down, team in 12 personel and he run s a play action from left to right, but all of the wrs are on the left side running breaking out routes and the qb is left with no wr to throw to . How is this helping the qb?

You’re just repeating what the TV commentator said. To which I replied, “have you though about the possibility that is where Watson chose to scramble on his own? How do you know it wasn’t Watson who screwed it up?”

Here’s my question. Why are you guys giving RAC a pass? It was the defense who couldn’t get the job done yesterday. At all. They marched up and down the field, all game long.

But do carry on with O’Brien.

Methinks you either quoted or read the post wrong

Vince Verhei: Bill O'Brien is the anti-Doug Pederson. He opts to punt on fourth-and-5 from the Philadelphia 41; it's a 29-yard punt, and the Eagles go on to kick a field goal anyway to tie the score at 16-all. Next drive, O'Brien punts on fourth-and-2 from the 50. It's a 33-yard punt, and the next play Foles hits Nelson Agholor deep for an 83-yard touchdown. Houston is driving at the end of the third quarter, but now Demaryius Thomas is limping off with an ankle or leg injury.

Texans didn't go for it on fourth-and-5 or fourth-and-2. Now they're down by 13 points, so they have to go for it on fourth-and-9. Watson dumps off to Alfred Blue, who is tackled 4 yards short of the sticks,

That’s Bob in a nutshell. Soft. Coaches scared.

None of those 4th downs mattered when Watson took the lead with less than 2 minutes left.

I thought Pederson was out of his mind going for it so often on 4th down. But as soft as ARC had them playing... I get it.
Yea when Pederson kept going for it on 4th I was like oh this ballsy right here I’m not use to seeing these type of things. But it worked out in their favor.

You know how that goes on here, Pederson’s a hero and seen as a great coach by folks on here..............b/c they converted on all those 4th downs. Of course if the defense steps up and stops him just 1 out of those critical 4th down conversions....and we win, folks on here call Pederson a dumbass and the Texans and BoB only won b/c he was stupid and kept going for it on 4th down...

Same **** around here.

and there in lies the issue as after 5 years its pretty apparent BOB has no real feel for the NFL game. Maybe he did for the college game but its "deer in headlights" at times in the NFL. I really hope that he goes back to just being a HC and gives up the OC role.

He had a pretty good offense when he had a HOF QB. If we could just get one of those.... wait a minute.

Bill should have tried for the 56 yarder. Still doesn't use Fairbairn as a weapon.

Challenge usage suspect. Was that catch on first scoring drive a catch?

Timeout usage - how many times is a timeout or 2 like yesterday just wasted last game first series of 2nd half burned due to miscommunication. What kind of way to ice a kicker was that yesterday? Lol

Late in game Bill gives away 7 yards on a 12 yard pickup to accept a 5 yard flag? What's the explanation here?

Thank God for Watson seriously. Without his skill and offscript heroics this team wouldnt even have a chance.

Romeo Crennel should be on a hot seat and I wouldn't blame O'Brien if he "promoted" him in the offseason for a new DC if the defense keeps giving up leads late in games.

Everyone had a piece of that loss.

Not exactly sure how you can say this when people defend Crennel for the occasional bad defensive game. Crennel has earned the benefit of the doubt.

If O'Brien coached as well as Crennel then I'd defend him in losses too.

Man great breakdown but since it doesn't align with the great hot takes of the super fan club. Then you're a,,,,,, nevermind. Lol

RAC mostly definitely needs to be on the hot seat. For a minute there I thought Vrabel was coaching that defense.

Lol, stop copping pleas for Crennel and this defense. It’s pretty clear to anyone with any objectivity that they’re overrated as hell.

The occasional bad defensive game has also happened for over a month now.

There’s also a reason noone here or anyone else who’s a fan of this team wants any part of any of these current playoff teams, except the Ravens.....maybe. It’s because we know this defense isn’t stopping Mahomes, Brady, Rivers, Luck......or Roethlisberger and their respective passing games.

You’re just being Josh Innes level idiotic at this point bro.

I did think our defense might even the playing field a bit. I also felt they hadn't been tested. Baker Mayfield shocked me, but I thought, "eh, no film on the guy... this is just part of the curve."

The Luck & Hilton did their thing. Now Foles. Now I know our defense doesn't give us an advantage. Still might give us an extra possession or two.

If these Texans play like they've been playing, it'll be a game late in the 4th. So we got a chance.

I guess you missed what Foles did to the defense yesterday, I'm glad I missed the massacre.

It’ll be a game late in the 4th b/c this team as a whole doesn’t give up....it’s as JJ....& DW....& all the other players and coaches have said all year..just find a way. that’s the influence BoB has had on this team.

& when it comes down to a chance late in the 4th, that’s all DW4 needs.

Really simple

But they want to get somekind of offensive genius as HC and who knows if the team will play hard for that guy.

I hear Marc Trestman is available.

There have been a couple references to a questionable penalty call. == The play gained 12 yds and the 5 yd penalty was accepted. I don't recall the play. Could someone give it an overview. Sometimes that happens with an automatic first down, just a guess.

Watson escaped left and ran for 12 yds getting a 1st down. Then the refs called a hold PI which carries 5 yds and an automatic 1st. OB accepted the penalty so we still got 1st down but were 7 yds back from where Watson had gained.

Well... it's not like he's done this before.

Ok, well it's not like he's done that this season.

Well, I don't think you understand how hard it is to win a game in the NFL.

I'm going to say NFL players don't give up because that's who they are. It's in their character. You don't make the NFL by giving up.

Attributing it to O'Brien is silliness.

And if the game plan is to be losing by less than a TD in the final minutes so Watson can make a comeback, then that's a losers mentality.

And O'Brien screwed that up anyway by using timeouts too early.

You obviously don't remember the blow outs we regularly suffered in prime time games. Or the drubbing we'd take from contenders.

We got close to having a winning mentality once. Now we're knocking on the door again.

The next 6 weeks will say a lot about how this team has grown. If it has grown.

So why do you hold the defense to a higher standard than the offense?

B/c historically more resources have been invested on that side of the ball both in the draft and FA that’s why...we started the year with literally 5 1st round draft picks in the starting line up...guys WE drafted. They’ve also got a host of other guys starting for them that were drafted in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft...again, guys WE drafted. Then if u look at the FA acquisitions in Mathieu, Colvin, J-jo to a lesser extent, the HOF worthy d-coordinator calling plays for them...they just don’t have any excuses.

I could maybe see giving up 500 yds passing to an Aaron Rodgers. But with all that talent and coaching, they shouldn’t be giving that up to a Nick Foles.

And you’d be an absolute moron if u think that they don’t...& that’s your fundamental problem in understanding. You’re working off faulty premises.

You guys are delusional if you think OB has anything to do with our offensive growth or ability to remain competitive. That guys name is Deshaun Watson.

OB is still doing the same **** he’s done since year one. Forcing players to conform to his scheme rather than adapting. Mismanaging the clock. Poor feel when calling games. Running Miller up the gut too damn much. Throwing WR screens like he’s at Penn State still. He is who we thought he was. The difference is we now have Michael Jordan at QB and he’s willing our offense each week.

Lol..now you’re just making **** up. Self proclaimed genius? ...no. You act like he Came in with the bravado of a Mike Martz when in fact He’s never claimed to be or taken credit for being an offense guru, genius or whatever.

That was just u and others who failed to think for yourselves...now you’re upset because u feel like u were duped....that ain’t BoB’s fault, that’s yours lol.

I don’t know where you dug that horseshit up, but you need to stick that one back in the ground. What is that tired worn out saying that y’all like to regurgitate over and over? I think it goes something like this....

“We have way too much talent to be this bad” Oh yeah, that’s it!

If they spent just a quarter of the draft picks they used for the defense in the OL instead, they’d never get Watson off the field.

Look at all that talent they have on defense. I don’t need to name them. Y’all know who they are. So why is the defense playing like absolute sh!t week in and week out? Yeah, that’s right. It’s all because O’Brien doesn’t have an offensive coordinator.

We’re going to get rolled early in the playoffs, and it won’t be because of the offense. If you’re gonna do all this finger pointing, at least point them in the right direction.

You have a crystal ball or something? We may or may not get rolled, but you should still have a little faith and support for your team.
The main criticism I have of the defense right now is the constant stream of 3rd and long conversions we are seeing when we have them seemingly under control.
Those are defense killers and shouldn't happen with such monotonous regularity.
Occasional chunk plays are gonna happen because there are 11 NFL guys plus an OC on the other side of the ball doing their darndest to score on you.
No Texans fan likes that this has happened this season but we have to be realists and we all know that injuries have seriously disrupted the secondary's cohesion. You can't lose quality players and still expect to perform at the high level we have seen when they are in.
All the crying and whining in the world will not change that but what should be happening is that our DC should be homing in on the weaknesses in other teams as they go through their injuries as well and I think we have seen evidence of that in the current 10-2 run after a horrible 0-3 start.
Me, I'm just ecstatic we have seen this turnaround as I was not a happy camper after week 3.
We are in the playoffs - and I'm sure all hands will be on deck because if anyone is aware of the importance of being in the postseason, it has to be the Texans team and organisation. There will be 19 other teams in week 18 that will be wishing they are where the Texans are.
Go Texans and a Merry Christmas to all.

If they spent just a quarter of the draft picks they used for

2nd round picks: Brandon Brooks, Sua Filo, Nick Martin

3rd round picks: Martinas Rankin

I'm also particular to Ben Jones & Greg Mancz. Even though they aren't high draft picks they can both play Center & Guard.

No first round picks other than Duane Brown. I'm disappointed in that as well & I hope they can find us guys who can play in the upcoming draft. First round would be great. I hope it works out that way. Even if they have to trade up, as long as they get it right & dont hurt us too bad on the back end.

But... & I don't care about Gary Kubiak, he's just the only other reference point we have.. but we've seen better OL play here in Houston with less "talent."

& I don't care who the coach is, but he's not doing himself any favors by bringing in 3 new starters every year. It just don't work that way. Load up on "talent" do it once, & build going forward. If you keep getting it wrong, time to look in the mirror.

Yeah, Ricky screwed the pooch. I get it.
