Duane Brown traded to Seahawks

What do we do with Lane? Do we convert any of our CBs to safety? I feel like JoJo, KJax and KJo are decent enough as starters, so will Lane replace one of them, be our 4th or will one of those guys be a safety before long?

Also I feel like this trade means, we kinda give up on the season. Not tank the rest of the season, just the guys realizing, that we won‘t win it all this year. Because you don‘t trade away your LT with a shitty line and get back draft picks and a worse player, if you want to compete this year.

#Seahawks GM John Schneider says of HOU LT Duane Brown, just acquired in trade: "We want him to finish his career here." @thenewstribune

#Seahawks GM John Schneider says SEA is inheriting final 1 1/2 seasons left on Duane Brown's HOU contract, $9.4M, $9.75M.

Schneider says trade talks have been going on with Houston since George Fant was injured.

Duane being traded was expected. There was to much friction. We got a good haul for him. His holdout ended things here. Plus remarks against McNair didn't help anything.

This season with the addition of Watson which brings on a new offensive scoring game it's the defense that that's being looked upon and needs attention imo not to say that Jeremy is it but those picks are nice

Seriously? Have you watched us play defense? Our backfield is terrible. I would love to move Kareem to S, if Johnson can play cb...

This was a move trying to address a need today and get something in the future.

I'm happy.

Yeah our secondary is terrible. Main reason is safety though. That’s why i am asking if we convert someone. The CB position looks much stronger than our S position.

Goodness ST you need help

Help for what?

The fact that I disagree with the NFL 'S stance on their workplace issue?

Or because you disagree with me and my stance that players shouldn't be doing what they are doing at work and the consequences should be benching players that cause workplace issues. If that doesn't work then trade or cut them and get some new players. Just like McNair did with DB.

I applaud McNair for getting rid of DB and see, people think I hate McNair. (Not true, I just don't think winning is high on his priority list.)

BTW, how does kneeling and disrespecting the flag have anything to do with protesting McNair? How about they just stay in the locker room during the national Anthem

Seahawks' Jeremy Lane: Questionable for Week 8
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lane (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Lane was a full practice participant Wednesday and Friday, but he only turned in a limited session on Thursday. One would think the 27-year-old would be on track to play Sunday following the full sessions, but he has not played since Week 4 and practice participation has not been a reliable indicator on his game status over the last few weeks. Rookie Shaquill Griffin would receive another start at cornerback should Lane be unable to play against the Texans
I was thinking we'd keep him after he came in but his comments about McNair led to this. I am not condoning MCMouth but thought it was over blown.

Jeremy Lane???!!!!!!!!!!!! $6 million/year x2 for a player that hasn't been able to stay on the field for the past 4 years. This type of trade tells me that the Texans wanted to unload Brown for whatever.

From my INJURY REPORT last week:

CB JEREMY LANE (GROIN).............SUFFERED THE INJURY OCT 1............HAS NOT PLAYED SINCE.............HE SUSTAINED A GROIN TEAR IN THE SEAHAWKS' 2014 PRESEASON FINALE AND RE-INJURED HIS GROIN IN THE SEASON OPENER, AFTER WHICH HE WAS PLACED ON IR/DESIGNATED TO RETURN..................HE RETURNED THAT YEAR BUT AFTER BEING ACTIVATED AND PLAYING FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, HAD A SETBACK KEEPING HIM FROM PLAYING IN ANOTHER 2 GAMES THAT SEASON.............HE TORE HIS ACL AND A COMPOUND FRACTURE OF HIS ARM ON AN INTERCEPTION IN THE 1ST QUARTER OF THE 2015 SEASON SUPER BOWL, AND UNDERWENT SURGERY FOR BOTH.................HE DID NOT RETURN TO PLAY UNTIL WEEK 12 OF THAT YEAR

:toropalm:

So I guess we are trading and getting rid of every player that kneeled huh Steelbtexan.

Man I get so tired of people worshipping idol Gods. I mean where is the respect and love for the almight God himself.

Yep

Don't know what you are talking about with the 2nd part of this post.

I worship God and nobody or nothing else. Just to be clear on this topic.

Not sure why so many are happy about this, we just got significantly weaker.

After 18 years of garbage at QB we should be looking to strengthen the OL to protect our MVP phenom, not peddle off our sole quality tackle because of the owner's ego.

Is it possible he'll be more motivated playing with the Houston Texans? Seems like he was in a bad situation with the Seahawks. A change of scenery may do him good just like with Duane Brown.

Wonder if Lane was just a throw in that Seattle wanted to get rid of. Maybe the Texans didn't really want him but Seattle said you have to take him as part of the deal or no trade. They get rid of their "locker room cancer" and the Texans get rid of their "contract problem child!" I guess it's kinda like a reverse "Assweiler" trade where the Texans get the draft picks and a player nobody wants!

Why arent people mad at Cushing? I see his actions worse and more selfish by constantly taking peds.. but everyone hates Duane Brown.

Not me. I would rather have a player cheat to be a better teammate on the field than one who holds out for more money to the detriment of his team. Especially its evident the team needs you desperately. At least Cushing was on the field trying to help his team instead of looking out for himself on his couch.

Love the 2nd, but was hoping for Graham instead of Lane+5th. :(

Lane's had a bad season, but hopefully the change a scenery can bring him back to life.
  • The sixth-year cornerback was drafted by the Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL draft, and has appeared for the team every season since. Lane’s strongest year came in 2014, where ranked 24th of 85 cornerbacks with a PFF overall grade of 79.0, and allowed just 0.78 yards per cover snap, the ninth best mark among 140 cornerbacks with at least 100 coverage snaps.
  • 2016 was Lane’s worst year in coverage. He allowed 1.26 yards per coverage snap and a passer rating of 119.7 on throws into his primary coverage, ranking 64th and 109th of 117 cornerbacks, respectively. Despite struggling in coverage, Lane was effective against the run, and ended the season with a run stop percentage of 2.7 percent, the league’s second highest mark.
  • Seattle’s willingness to move him suggests they are happy with rookie Shaquill Griffin in a starting role. In his senior season at UCF, Griffin allowed just 39.7 percent of the passes thrown into his coverage to be caught, and he ranked third among 269 college cornerbacks with a PFF overall grade of 88.2.

Huh?

He didn't want to be here, we got something for a guy who is more likely to make the IR than the pro-bowl and we got the opportunity to draft day two talent...

We all have had that feeling about our jobs. But we still put on those boots and went the work.

They should've wait until the off-season

Let's not forget Brown didn't want to be here and Texans made no known moves to address his concerns if they were about money. I doubt Texans would have traded him to Seattle if other team had offered more. DBrown did not have a game yesterday that screamed he was going to be better than avg (yes he was better than what we have but doubt that's what teams were wanting). Like with many of Daryl Morey's trades with Rockets some don't make lots of sense but he is constantly trying to improve roster. An unsatisfied DB who could go out any minute with career ending recurrence did worry me.

I don't know of one but maybe Smith has eye on a vet on some team. We have trade up ammo for 2018 including 2019 picks or just keep our 2019 first and two seconds. We could have some comps in 2019 with some players who may go elsewhere after this season.

That year was based on only 7 games.................he missed the rest due to injuries.

Wow, really, you rather have a cheater? Cheaters are the worst in my book. Id rather trust someone who is outpoken than a cheater. I would never trust a cheater, ever.

Best of luck to Duane, he was a great player and I wish much like Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Owen Daniels, etc that things had ended on a better note.

But all that being said, the Texans organization got low balled, you should have been able to get more for Duane Brown then a CB that lost his job to a rookie and can't stay healthy and pretty sub par picks given the Seahawks are likely playoff bound this season and who knows what will happen next. I mean the man came off the street and helped your rookie have one of the best games of any QB this season, Chris Clark is banged up and when healthy still only just above below average as a starter and you trade him for that. No way you can say this has nothing to do with Brown's comments and that somewhere along the line the organization didn't some how make this more a personal issue rather then about just money.

Why arent people mad at Cushing? I see his actions worse and more selfish by constantly taking peds.. but everyone hates Duane Brown.
taking peds is literally putting the game ahead of your long term health. Stupid, yes... but at least there is a hint of "I want to do for my team". I don't like what he did, but it is different from a guy who doesn't like his contract sitting out. Mind you he was already making top 5 money (on the team) this year.

Lol don't think that was the main he was traded. He wanted out and they had no plans with him in the future and he was gonna do the same thing next year. I won't be shocked at all if he gets a new contract with seahawks soon.

I could maybe try to understand the first time, but 2nd time? nah but don't worry though HE WANTS TO BE APART OF THE TIME, THATS WHY HE TOOK PEDS.

Well, unless you use assets to move into 2018....which is what we'll do.
That's what will happen - prolly try to cobble some seconds and thirds together to move into first round next draft.
I'm fine with moving up, even if it means only acquiring 3 or 4 players of quality.
Besides, we will need to dip into the FA pool next season.
This stuff people are spouting about not wanting to play for McNair will basically blow over and if Watson continues to perform at this level, a lot of players will want to be on board this ship.

Texans should have 3 Compensatory Picks in 2018 also for losing Boyue and some others this year. That 2018 5th rounder could be packaged with one or two of those comp picks to move up this year and get a good LT in the 2nd round, especially if they get a 3rd rounder for Boyue. Just hope Watson can survive the O-line this season!
