I am officially in love with Aaron Donald.
If the Texans don't draft Teddy Bridgewater at #1 or trade down, I would want to hear Aaron Donald's name... I don't care if he is listed #20 or #30 on Kiper and McShay's big board. That guy is going to be a perennial All-pro.
Someone is going to get a steal if he slides because of his size. He is plenty big! The only reason he's not over 300 lbs is because he's relatively short. It is clear to me, though, that his shortness is an asset. He is remarkably quick, with a very low center of gravity, incredible balance and footwork... He's an absolute stud, game-changer on defense that disrupts an offense in ways that they can't answer because of his incredible quickness ond ff the snap, ability to beat double teams, pursue, finish, and his proximity to the quarterback.
The only negative regarding his size are short arms... However, he's so skilled with his feet balance that his hands are secondary... He's like a DT version of Dwight Freeney (only he is great against the run also)... I compare him to Freeney because both developed their games around supposed weaknesses (height). Freeney's ability to dominate the great LT simply by being in an athletic position low to the ground was rare and LTs had no counter for it. I think this guy will be similarly disruptive in the interior. Teams can't simply double team him with C and G, because he's just is likely to beat both of them into the hole, or slither through the double team after initial contact.
Aaron Donald #1 on my board!! Though I would take Bridgewater if I was running the Texan draft... Of course, I would then attempt to trade up into position to grab Donald in the middle of the 1st. Donald and Watt on the same line together would be an utter joy to watch. I don't know if I would even bother to follow the ball with Houston on defense.
