He's my guy. Take him at the eighteen and don't look back. He covers CB this season and moves to free Safty down the line. We'll have a shot at ten and six if they draft him.
However, on topic, Cromartie is similar in many ways to the Cromartie of the Chargers. Though they share no family ties, they are both physical freaks in terms of CB's. They both have great size and have production on the field. I don't know if I would take Cromartie at 18, as he isn't a day 1 starter IMO, but he is a guy who will surprise early. Cromartie needs time to develop, and at 18, we are looking for an instant starter. Also, I don't think his value is as high as McKelvin, Talib, or Cason. However, I would take him over guys like King or Dribble.
I don't consider Daunta to be a "natural" CB, as he gives too much space and seems to have somewhat stiff hips to be classified as a "natural".

I think he is up there with Flowers, Porter, and Thomas in value. I'd take him before a guy like Tribble or King as well. Cromartie from the Chargers was pretty raw when he came out too but 3 years later we see what's happened. Having said that I will repeat something that YTF said and that is we are looking for a starter with our first pick.
He looks like a natural corner to me. No reason to switch him to safety.
I don't think we reach for him at 18, and we won't be able to get him at the 81.
Same goes for Dunta. Dunta is a natural cornerback, I don't understand why people want him to move.
They are cousins actually.
one of the pay sites I subscribe to already has him upgraded to round one. with cb being primary position & FS as back-up.
regardless his body type reminds me of Jacoby Jones but even thinner. one hard NFL sized hit &@ this point he is a high reward, high risk pick better left for a team that can survive without his services for extended periods of time until he can build up his body. the Texans need sure fire starting material that can hold up over the course of an NFL season.
Do I seriously have to give reputation to everybody on the site before I could give it to somebody else twice?
Anyways, I think a lot of the CB's like McKelvin, and Cromartie are going to get hyped too much that they might be gone by the time we pick.
I was really hoping McKelvin was going to stay kind of mediocre so we could nab him later in the draft, but it seems that just won't happen.
Anyways, I like the idea of having Cromartie on our team, but not for the price of our first round pick, because I think he would get abused and crushed egotistically if we picked him and made him start right away. I think he would need a bit of development so that his confidence will remain intact, but I do think he could be a monster.

These were my exact feelings towards Fred Bennett early this last season. Everyone was calling for him just b/c he couldn't be worse than Faggins. Hard to tell what woulda happened but I think the staff was wise letting him get used to the league for a few games...![]()
what in the world is Mel Kiper thinking he had Aqib Talib in the top 10 on his mock draft on ESPN.

how dare he make an educated guess on a subject he knows plenty about considering a player that's one of the best at his position to enter this year's draft. how dare he!what in the world is Mel Kiper thinking he had Aqib Talib in the top 10 on his mock draft on ESPN.

When your front line corner is a forth round pick from last year...and you got Faggins and Von hutchinson as your two major back ups....I don't see it as a "Reach". We'll be damned lucky to have a shot at him. The fact that he could put on few more ponuds on his frame, with his ball skills, make him a nice guy to groom at FS. I'm hopefull that Robinson will eventually make it back. In '09 if all three are healthy...what are you going to do with the odd man out ? Me I put my best four on the field. Just me though . You may have been taught different ?

Safety and corner are two different positions. I know they are both in the secondary, but they require two different types of players. Just putting a few more pounds on his frame is not going to cut it. I'm not saying that he can't play safety in the NFL, because I really have no idea if he can or not, I am saying that there is alot more to moving a guy from corner to safety than just adding a few pounds. Coming up and tackling from the corner position is different than coming up and tackling from the safety position. Not only does it take more of a toll on your body, but the angles you take are very different.
Ah no. The difference, the only differences is that you expect your safties to be able to enforce the run support better than the lighter weight CBs. In this case however.... we have one guy, Bennit and if we're lucky, another guy IN DRC who posesses the frame to move into the FS position. Another difference between the CB and the FS....is the ablity to flip the hips turn and run, and the ablity to drop their but and jump the route because of superior foot quickness. In this case DRC poses this. Bennit does not...yet. If Dante does come back....they will groom either Bennit or DRC if we draft him, to be the future FS. Their bodies are long enough, they tackle well enough, that they will have easy transition into the poition. Put your best four on the feild. And either Bennit or DRC are alredy faster, quicker, than anything we currently have on the roster at the saftey position.
The Texans are currently loded with SS types. Their best Fs is Hutchinson...he is an adaquate, blue collar DB.
FYI If I where to do another Mock Draft (waiting until after the combine) with current information I would project Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie going #24 to the Titans. hometown, local product does well story fills Pac-Man hole giving them three decent young cb's with the option to really shutdown the secondary if they keep Jones or move him for another need like Chad Johnson (heard rumor last night coming home on the radio that Chad wants to be traded, but Titans not on his list, but thats where VY would come in).
Anyway this would give Cromartie some developmental time, a good situation for him @ CB.
I like that prediction.
Would allow Griffin to move to FS full-time instead of switching back & forth between FS & CB.
Which just put your FS tackling therom in the toliet.
Griffin is more of a FS anyway.
Griffin seems more of a natural SS to me?
This was all I heard last year when I told you guys that he could play both FS AND CB in the NFL (which he has) & all I ever got back was that he should be a SS (which he hasnt been). Everybody said I was wrong, but nobody would tell me why.
In what way is that his more natural position? Just because he played there at Texas or what?
The guy is a very skinny 202 lbs & runs between 4.40 & 4.45.
Has very good hips & incredible instincts. Very good centerfielder.
I honestly never followed him much because I didn't like him in college, but he seemed to play back on his feet too much as well as being slower to the ball than ideal. He seems like he would be better suited to play in the box more than deep center field.
how do y'all feel about this latest Mock Draft http://walterfootball.com/draft2008.php

Would love to have Shawn Crable in the 4th round.

It will be hard not to take this guy he is going to fly up the charts especially if his position workouts are good. If he falls to 18 we might have to grab him there and I would be ok with that.Cromartie just posted a 4.28 40 yard dash. 6'1 1/2 184lb
