Crystal Ball: Texans 2009 SB Champs!!!!

hey..... who is going to argue against a crystal ball? I mean Mrs Cleo said I was going to be a millionaire by age 30. No arguments here..... man I can't wait! lol

Ah yes, optimism beats eternal in the human breast. We need to plug in a few more players, IMO. I'm beginning to think we also need a better head coach. However, I would love to be wrong.

They actually predict us going to the SB in 2010 as well :) but we lose to the seahawks.

Apparently.. we are going to be the sheet in 5 years.

BTW.. the fact that we play the bears in 2009 just totally shoots that prediction down.

Not so fast my friend. Lovie Smith turned that defense around in just one season. This season proved that they need to get a stud WR and a solid backup QB. Thomas Jones was doing really well when Rex Grossman was healthy early in the year.

The key to employing the Ram's/Chief's offense is an accurate QB (Grossman), a versatile RB (Jones), and some good targets that stretch the field (?). The shortcoming of the Chiefs offensively in the playoffs has been their lack of WR's. Hopefully the Bears learn from that. The Bears should use their #4 overall pick on one, probably Mike Williams.

With a healthy Thomas and Grossman and some additional weapons on offense, I could see them in the SB in 2009 (2008 season).

Until the Texans get a quarterback, I don't see a Superbowl in 2009. I see another losing season.

We will see you after next season. Carr will be just fine.

get another quarterback, are you joking? Carr was the man in a lot of categories this year placing in the top ten, with a botchy line... when the line was performing in the beggining of the year, he was second in the league in passing yards, only to Culpepper, and had a QB rating over 100... i hate people that come on here, claim to be fans and then dis the franchise QB

I've said plenty of negative things about our franchise QB and I consider myself a fan.

really? willing to bet money on what? that Carr wont be our quarterback or that we wont post a winning season next year?

Nevermind.. i dont want to know.. anyone who says Carr is not a talented young QB has blinders on. He is our franchise QB.. get used to it.. and i hope you are man enough to back him up after he proves you wrong.. repeatedly.

Critiquing Carr is one thing. Ive made comments about Carr in the past.. such as his accuracy when throwing sidearm.. and wondering whether or not he had control of the offense.

But ive never questioned his ability to be OUR GUY. Hell.. the guy has better stats through his first 3 seasons than many of the best QBs to play the game in the last 3 decades.

The ONLY thing you can really question Carr on.. is his ability under pressure (meaning.. sackers breathing down his neck).. and his field vision. Those are the only two things he has NOT proven he is great at yet. He has shown he is fast, he is smart, he is strong, durable, capable of leading, competitive, and just all around talented. The thing is.. his ability under pressure and field vision are both things that tie directy into the play of our offensive line.

SO.. you cannot logically claim that he is not our guy. You can be skeptical.. but anyone who says we need another QB.. honestly.. is either ignorant of the facts or just trying to start a fight.

but ever to the point that we need to get rid of him?
No, but opinions are opinions. If one guy has that opinion....well, thats his opinion. That doesn't mean he isn't a fan of the team. I see plenty of Capers or Gaffney, or Pitts, or Palmer bashers too....that doesn't make them non-fans either.

exactly grid... everyone critics, but to say to get rid of someone, when they are not performing is one thing ... but to say to get rid of a player when he is clearly a leader, and has given a lot to help this team succeed is ludacris... isnt not like we drafted Ryan Leaf here, we have a tremendous talent in Carr

Ludacris is a rap band. Ludicrous means absurd.

*my spelling blows so I'm not knocking you...I just have a thing about pop culture words replacing real words.

alright vinny, well if everyone is titled to an opinion, it is my opinion that someone that comes out and says that we dont have a quarterback, and we will never win till we get one, is not a true fan... anyone that comes across saying anything about anyone is not... i have constantly said that we need to replace men on the line if they cant perform, bring in people, let them have a position battle... but i have never said that we sohould just get rid of guys, and never given a substantiated reason for it.. where is the logic of saying carr is not a good quarterback

well ludacris is a rap artist, not a band... haha, anyways... i know i spelled it wrong, i just didnt want to take the time to think of how it is really spelled, my way was just easier

Ok, so lets say DC is on the block right now ... How many teams in their current situation would be willing to trade for him to plug him into the #1 QB spot or better yet, who could DC concievably replace as starting QB? I'll go about my picks the shorter way ... how many he could NOT replace:

TBrady - NE
PManning - Indy
SMcNair - Tenn (arguably)
DMcNabb - Phili (arguably)
DCullpepper - Minn (arguably)
MVick - Atl

IMHO, thats all folks :offtopic

Again IMHO, DCarr is probably 2 Olinemen & 1 TE away from doing something really special here in H-Town. I believe he has the tools to be a dominating & versatile QB for many years to come if/when he's put in the right situation.

and I think he could replace McNair.

Of the others.. the only reason he wouldnt replace Vick is because vick is the human hype machine and the falcons make too much money off him.

Manning and Brady I think are better QBs right now.

McNabb and Culpepper are better.. but id like to see what DC could do behind their Olines.

it all boils down to the Oline with DC.. I hope we get a good Oline before his career gets prematurely ended.

Grid, and all others, do you think that "throwing DC to the wolves" as a rookie, and him being sacked so many times has anything to do with the fact that he is not comfortable in the pocket and doesn't do well under pressure?

I think we may have "shell shocked" him by throwing him behind such a poor offensive line and letting him taking the beating and abuse he has endured over the last three years.

What are yalls thoughts on this?

Carr has always had a problem with holding the ball too long and not having a good feel for the pocket. This isn't new. I think he has improved quite a bit over his first three seasons though. I think Palmer has done a great job with him although many of you guys give CP no credit with Carr's development.
Holds the ball too long, inviting the sack, rather than dumping it off or throwing it away … Makes proper checks, but does not have a variety of throws … Needs to improve his pass drop, as he does a lot of three-step motion and will hold the ball a little too long, taking the sack rather than throwing it away.

Future, I respect your point you are trying to get across here, because I believe it is fueled by passion for this team, but I can't say I agree with you.

I LOVE this team. I am a poor teacher from Denver, but I save as much money as I can to fly home to Houston to see a few games each year. However, I'll be the first to admit there are some things, and people, about this team that I can't stand (just take a look at my signature :hairpull: ) but that doesn't mean that I, just like you, don't love this team, and dream, and think Houston Texans football.

Not trying to change your way of thinking, just offering you a different perspective.

GO TEXANS!!!

Thanks Vinny, I didn't know he had that problem in college as well. It definitely explains my theory to a degree.

np, Carr has a pretty long list of positives with only a few negatives in his pre-draft profiles. I do think that he has been a bit shell shocked here though (couldn't have helped early on), but from what I can tell he has matured very well (as a NFL QB) and handles the rush 100% better than in his first season. I really think he is going to have a huge year next season because I think our line will be much improved.

Maybe we should compare the first 3 years of Manning's career to DC's

Here is David's stats

Here is Pay-a-ton's stats

There are some glaring differences. Peyton has better numbers, but of course he started with an established team. The sacks are what really sticks out at me. I am confident in stating that the OL of Indy was superior over the first 3 years of Manning's career than DC's. Peyton took just 13 sacks this last year. I think we all know Manning does not have much for wheels so the OL has to be good.

I still think DC can be a great QB given the protection. He just needs the extra second to get the ball off.

The QB has a lot to do with sacks and it is not just the line. When Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie were with the Bills, Johnson was sacked constantly, but once Flutie came in he was rarely sacked. The only thing that changed was the QB, his decision making, and ability to get the ball out quickly.

Not to mention that Flutie can get out of his own way and is elusive enough to avoid people. Johnson is another one of those statue pocket passer types like Bledso.

dont get me wrong vinny but dosent david carr always get the ball out early ? I mean what other choice does he have ? And wasnt it us that always complained about the quick/short passes ?

Until this last year I have always felt he held the ball too long as a by-product of locking into his first read. In the NFL you have to anticipate an open WR and you cannot wait to visibly see him open. By the time he got off of the read it was too late to check down anywhere else but to his last option. That means when teams roll the coverage to your primary read you either get sacked or dump to Miller (first year) or Davis (second year) and every option in between becomes a moot point.

No way Indy wins the Super Bowl in '06. By then, they'll have to go timeshare with Peyton to cover his contract under the cap. You know, 4 games with the 49ers, another 4 with Cleveland and so on.
