Mike Brisiel is now a FA ? Restricted or unrestricted ?
Remember how our Oline suffered when he went down and Caldwell subbed till Mike got back ? This guy like Myers and Brown is an integral part of our offensive line. Surprised nobody mentioned him going into FA this off season until here ?

Here is the list of known FA's we need to consider resigning.

FWIW: Duane Brown comes off contract next year and will need to get PAID!! too.

Time for Rick Smith to show he knows how to work a calculator.

I think most of this type of discussion has taken place under forum about mock drafts. I have noted I expect Brisiel to be re-signed and doubt a high draft pick wil be used on an OG.

Come on over and check out the other forum.

Everyone can do this for a team..It will all work out and is a good problem to have..The cap is very malleable, and with the cap increase coming from new TV deals, we will see what happens.

FA's for 2012, with BOLD being who we need to sign back. Priority IMO goes:

Foster (pay the man after 2.5 years of being paid under a million) and NO Tate is not the answer without Foster
Brisiel and Myers (best Oline in the league, must stay together)
Dreessen (good safety for OD, and if we sign Dreessen, may mean the end of OD coming up soon)
Allen without a true #2CB we need Allen for reassurance for KJ and a third CB

Now on to Mario, he's still an unknown in this system. We know what Barwin and Reed (as a rookie) can do, but still do not know about Mario (he needs to be consistent). As of now, I'd use the Franchise tender on him and see if he can play consistently well and/or stay healthy.

Before anyone panics, remember the new television contract extension.

ROSEMONT, Ill.--The NFL has extended its television rights deal with NBC by two seasons, the league and network announced Wednesday.

The NFL's franchise owners approved the two-year extension, which runs through the 2013 season, during a one-day meeting at an O'Hare Airport hotel.
The NFL's six-year contract with NBC was to expire following the 2011 season. That deal pays the NFL approximately $600 million per season.
In May, the league announced two-year extensions of its deals with Fox and CBS, also running through the 2013 season. Those extensions reportedly included rights fee increases of approximately 2 percent. The NFL previously extended its contract with DirecTV through the 2014

http://views.washingtonpost.com/theleague/nflnewsfeed/2009/08/nfl-extends-deal-with-nbc.html

It has been estimated the total extension will be apprx $3 Billion to NFL with players getting the new CBA cut. This should raise the salary cap in 2013 very significantly

Good to have all this stuff in one place.
+1 for your work
:)
I hope the original post stays editable so we can record changes to players' contract status

SM and I went to the trouble to try and figure out the cap space for 2012 offseason, so I figure it's relevant too.

Here is how I see it. Assuming we are right up against the CAP now @ 120 million. Assuming the CAP will go up to 127 million.

Data from Sportrac.

Jeff Garcia Unable to find what we paid him.
Jake Delhomme Unable to find what we paid him.
Quintin Demps cap hit was $668,750 this past season.
Dominique Barber cap hit was $587,000 this past season.
Arian Foster cap hit was $525,000 this past season.
Joel Dreessen cap hit was $1.225 million this past season.
Jason Allen cap hit was $1.23 million this past season, assuming we took over his original contract with the Dolphins.
Chris Myers cap hit was $3.5 million this past season.
Neil Rackers cap hit was $2.15 million this past season.
Matt Turk cap hit was $2 million this past season.
Derrick Ward cap hit was $1.75 million this past season.
Jon Weeks cap hit was $405,000 this past seaason.
Mario Williams cap hit was $15.15 million this past season.

That is roughly $36 million to play with. Plus whatever we paid those 2 vet QB's.

I really only see the Texans resigning Chris Myers, Arian Foster and Mario Williams. And maybe 1 or 2 others depending on their cost and value to the team. The others are more easily replaceable.

Jon Weeks is replaceable, but Kubiak seems to put a premium on deep snapping.
Neil Rackers could be replaced, but Kubiak will want a vet kicker. Neil has to be willing to keep his cap hit down.

Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia are gone.
Jason Allen will easily be replaced by Brandon Harris & Roc Carmichael.
Derrick Ward will easily be replaced by our draft class.
Joel Dreessen might be retained with a friendly cap number, but can be replaced by Garrett Graham.
Matt Turk will be replaced by Brett Hartmann.
Quintin Demps and Dominique Barber will be replaced by our draft class.

I would put Mario's cap hit around $10 million his first year. Foster, $7 million, Myers $5 million.

That is only $22 million. Even if I am off a few million here or there, it looks to be very achievable.

Great effort compiling all that, but there are a few more things to consider.

I added up those contracts you posted and got 29.19 million, not 36.

***7 million difference was estimate of 2012 cap raise by league. Casserly says the cap won't change for 2012.

Garcia and Delhomme didn't make enough this year to effect the 2012 cap of the Texans. If either gets re-signed, that new money will of course count. Matt Turk made 2 million deal with Jax, but was released. We likely paid him minimum for the games he played (terms were undisclosed), which means there won't be any significant money to count towards your total. Mike Brisiel is also a free agent this year, but I don't know what he makes, I would assume around 500k.

Contracts that will be going up next year:
Andre Johnson at at 6,000,000 6,500,000
DeMeco Ryans at at 5,800,000 5,900,000
Matt Schaub at at 5,700,000 7,150,000
Antonio Smith at at 4,600,000 5,500,000
Eric Winston at at 4,500,000 5,500,000
Kevin Walter at at 3,000,000 3,500,000
Matt Leinart at at 2,500,000 3,000,000 (probably will be cut)
Wade Smith at at 1,750,000 2,000,000
Rashad Butler at at 1,017,280 1,532,720
Brian Cushing at at 774,000 1,153,000
Kareem Jackson at at 405,000 700,000

Total cost 6.389 million in escalations from those contracts alone.

There are 12 rookie deals that will all be going up 85k each this year for a total cost of 1.02 million in escalations.

Contracts going down next year:
Shaun Cody at at 3,500,000 2,250,000

Savings of 1.25 million

Contract bought out:
David Anderson WR 333,333

Savings of 333k

Wild cards - Don't know the year-to-year salaries/bonuses:
Jonathan Joseph's deal
Daniel Manning's deal
JJ Watt, Reed, Harris, etc deals

Any of these deals could go up or down. For our purposes let's assume they stay the same.

Adding up all the costs and savings I get 6.033 million in extra cost next year. Subtract that and 2 million for Turk from your 36 million and you get approximately 28 million in free capspace to work with. If the total is 29 million as I got from adding your contracts, we have only 21 million to work with. Which makes it much more difficult to sign Foster, Mario and Myers.

I think after a bit of discussion in the Mario thread 21-22 million is a solid estimate for 2012 cap room assuming there are no cap ceiling changes.

2 NFL seasons is a long way off. I don't think you look that far ahead outside of maybe Crushing.

If Tate continues to look good and stay healthy, I can't see a scenario where we can keep him and Foster.

As long as it is a ZBS team. - Not that many of them out there.

I believe its just three: Houston, DC, and Seattle. DC just lost a ton of money (30+ mill over the next 2 years). If a non ZBS team wants to give him big $ they are in for a rude awakening.

San Diego and Baltimore also use some ZBS but it's not a designated offensive scheme/philosophy.

The Texans currently have 52 players under contract. Below is a list of those players, the last season they are under contract, and the number of players under contract per position (compiled from Rotoworld). This list should bring an understanding of where the Texans depth issues lie.

QB [2] Schaub (2012) Yates (2014)
RB [3] Foster (2016) Tate (2013) J. Williams (2012)
FB [1] Casey (2012)
WR [7] A. Johnson (2016) Walter (2014) J. Jones (2013) Jean (2013) Maehl (2013) Iglasias (2012) Holliday (2012)
TE [2] Daniels (2014) Graham (2013)
T [4] D. Brown (2012) Butler (2012) Newton (2014) Gardner (2012)
G [4] W. Smith (2013) Caldwell (2012) S. Smith (2013) Austin (2012)
C [2] Myers (2015) Wallace (2012)
NT [2] Cody (2012) Mitchell (2013)
DE [4] A. Smith (2013) Watt (2014) Jamison (2012) R. Harris (2012)
OLB [4] Barwin (2012) Reed (2014) Braman (2013) Nading (2012)
ILB [4] Cushing (2013) Sharpton (2013) Alexander (2013) D. Smith (2012)
CB [6] Joseph (2014) K. Jackson (2014) McCain (2012) B. Harris (2014) McManis (2013) Carmichael (2014)
S
[5] Manning (2014) Quin (2012) Nolan (2012) Keo (2014) T, Williams (2012)
K [0] None
P [1] Hartmann (2013)
LS [1] Weeks (2015)

QB - The Texans need to bring in a couple of arms into camp. Possibly 3, if Schaub can't participate fully. I expect one to be vet.
RB - There will be a need for a 3rd RB, and I expect 2 or 3 signed.
FB - Is Casey staying at FB? If not, expect a couple to be signed. This might be true even if Casey stays.
WR - There are a lot of guys under contract, but I expect the Texans to take another in the 1st 3 rounds. Possibly another late (or UDFA) that has return abilities.
TE - Woefully thin. At least one will be drafted, even if Casey is moved back. They also need a true blocking TE.
T - Both starters have expiring contracts in 2012. This is why I expect one OT to be taken in the initial 3 rounds.
G - They need a couple bodies in camp. I would like to see someone brought in to compete at RG (vet preferably). But, I'm not sure the Texans feel that way.
C - I would expect another C signed as an UDFA. Wade Smith might become Myers backup, in case of injury.
NT - I expect a player brought into camp, but it doesn't seem as if this is a draft priority for the Texans.
DE - I would expect a mid round pick used here for depth purposes.
OLB - They need more bodies in camp, and probably a draft pick in the top half of the draft.
ILB - They might need to find a starter, preferably a vet. If so, still look at the mid rounds for depth.
CB - I would like to see a vet brought in to compete, but that may not be practical. Otherwise, maybe a couple of UDFAs to take reps in camp.
S - Not real happy with the depth situation, but the Texans may only be able to address the position in the late rounds or with UDFAs.
K - They need someone. Maybe one vet and one rookiw to battle in camp.
P - With Hartmann's injury and pending suspension, expect someone signed. Maybe a couple of UDFAs.
LS - Weeks is the guy.

@ Lucky

A few points I might dispute but for the most part I cant disagree - too much going on to go into depth.

Life is kickin me in the balls.

According to the crapical .....
