Coaching staff

I'm hearing some here like Philly's OL coach. What do y'all think about Jim Schwartz?

Front 7 will need to be rebuilt to fit the 4-3 but it needed to be rebuilt to run the 3-4 too. The Tampa 2 doesn't require great man to man CB's but we don't have any of those anyway. We just need DL than can get up the field and LB that can run to the ball. We also need the offense to be aggressive to get the lead so the other team has to play against the strength of the Tampa 2. We don't need the offense to go 2 yrs without scoring on their opening drive either.

This is one of the reasons teams don’t generally wait this long. Imagine waiting until after the Super Bowl.

The Texans have had the openings at GM and HC since week 5. That they were the last team to fill the positions is on their incompetence.

To think Bieniemy didn’t already have a staff selected to go with him is ridiculous. The argument that you can wait until after the conference championships, but not the Super Bowl, is ridiculous.

Easterby didn’t want Bieniemy. He wasn’t the right cultural fit. That’s why he wasn’t interviewed during the initial window. Now we know what Easterby wants. A quiet guy that won’t rock the boat, while Jack fiddles with the perfect team culture. This was not a hire that put winning football games first. Nothing about this organization puts winning football games first.

Feb. 2, 2021Updated: Feb. 2, 2021 12:25 p.m.

New Texans secondary coach Dino Vasso spent the past five seasons with the Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles

The Texans are hiring former Eagles assistant coach Dino Vasso as secondary coach, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

Vasso coached for Philadelphia for the past five seasons. He was promoted to assistant coordinator/defense last year after previously being the assistant secondary coach.

While coaching the secondary, Vasso helped safety Malcolm Jenkins as he was named to Pro Bowls in 2017 and 2018.

Vasso was previously a coaching assistant with the Chiefs from 2013-15 working with Emmitt Thomas and Al Harris.

He was part of a defense that finished second in interception rate and third-down percentage in 2015 as Eric Berry and Marcus Peters were named to the Pro Bowl.

Hasn't Philly's secondary sucked the last few years?

The Texans are adding defensive coordinator Lovie Smith’s son, Miles, as linebackers coach, per a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media. Miles Smith served as his father’s linebacker’s coach for the last two seasons at Illinois. In 2018 he was the program’s cornerbacks coach.
Pelissero also reports the Texans will retain Bobby King, who will move from coaching inside linebackers to the defensive line. King has been in his second stint with the franchise since 2017, having previously worked for Houston from 2011-2013. He was previously with the Chargers from 2014-2016 as an assistant linebackers coach.
Houston will also keep running backs coach Danny Barrett, who has been in that position since 2018.

If we are going true 4-3 we have issues. I hope Lovie runs a multiple front. Then a 4-3 will be used but so will many other formations. We have better LBs for a 4-3 but not DL. The DBs except Reid aren't that great.

What if THIS is why we hired Pep... Just a thought. I saw it in a Watson trade thread on the Jets board.

In a videoconference with NFL Network analysts, I asked Irvin if he believes Jets quarterback Sam Darnold can be fixed and whether New York should go all-in on Watson.

"You can still believe in Sam Darnold and that Sam Darnold can get it done, and the right coaching staff can bring the best out of him
