CNNSI Mock Draft

I believe it would be a huge mistake to pass on AD, but building a solid defense does intrigue me.

Agreed. Peterson should be a texan if he falls OR i'm sure we could more easily trade down. I like the idea of building our defense strong too though.

I love the Levi Brown pick for arizona. it may be too high for him to go but Levi would be a great RT in the pros and perfect for Leinart.

we could more easily trade down.

Ideally, I'd prefer to trade down. We need to get back our second round draft pick this year. If Peterson is available when the Texans pick, I'm gonna be torn, because you know we'd be getting offers from other teams to trade up. I think I'd be too tempted to trade down - but it'd better be a good offer.

NFLDRAFTBLITZ.COM has us taking Peterson at 10! If Peterson falls to us at 10 and we don't take him I'm going to freaking puke!

I think Peterson goes before that. I also would rather grab Branch.

Although a good CB is a good pickup.

If Adrian Peterson does fall we should trade down with Green Bay or Buffalo and pick up a second rounder.

oh yeah, I be furious on that situation ..mainly because I think he will be a better back than someone that was touted last season if both players stay healthy

ya if he falls to us at 10 we have to trade down. i think green bay will trade with us....esp becuz they have extra picks. maybe we dont get a second but maybe a 3 or 4

No question. He's a much better all-around back than Mr. Everything in New Orleans....

If AP drops to #10 and Green Bay won't give us a second rounder then we should pick him ourselves. I wouldn't want to drop that far down if they don't want to give up their second rounder.

Have the barff bag ready.

I really want to give the Texans Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, as a makeup for them passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young last year. But in signing Ahman Green and re-signing Ron Dayne, it's a tough case to make that running back is their top need position. Hall gives them a quality cover man to tandem with Dunta Robinson.

On top of that...Robinson is likly to bolt in a couple of seasons. Going to need a guy to replace him...in place.

Funny how that no tallent Levi Brown keeps popping up in the top ten isn't it ?

So help me if AD is there, we take him. We might as well make a whole new backfield and with a new QB, we gotta find a RB that can do damage.

I think with maybe one more draft choice, we can possibly grab a wild card spot with AD taken. I feel our defense can last a season or with later round picks.

if AP is there at 10 i'm sure the texans could get a king's ransom for that pick. the texans do not need a RB the most. the main problems lies in the secondary and the oline. if they trade down they could get (ideally) reggie nelson who i obviously love, or possibly levi brown, if not maybe swing another trade and get joe staley. then with the 2nd pick(s) maybe snag a kenny irons, sidney rice, dwayne jarrett, justin blalock, merriweather, ross, griffin, durant etc.

exactly my POV.... There is Buffalo who lost McGahee, Carolina doesnt really have anyone and there is Green Bay too who badly needs a RB. There are only 2 to go around. That would leave Green Bay out of the loop and i am sure they want a RB pretty badly.

i'll say again.........WAIT FOR MCFADDEN FROM ARKANSAS next year!

We have more than enough RB's to get us through the year. Yes I love AP but to me its not a pressing need right now.

We NEED STARTERS.

Our O-line is still in questionable shape. We know the secondary needs major help. A WR to go opposite of AJ. D-line needs another playmaker.

I want to go defense first round and offense third.

Right now I'd be very happy with Landry, Nelson, Anderson, or Branch.
If A. Gonzo who is rated in the 2nd happens to fall to the 3rd he's be my pick there right now.

Are you expecting us to be drafting in the top 5 next year?

HA HA i've been waiting on someone to call me on this. you got some rep coming.

no, i'm not expecting us to be picking in the top 5 which is where mcfadden will go if he comes out next year but then again i didn't see this matt schaub trade coming so anything is possible. if ap can fall to us possibly at 10 then so can mcfadden.

Next years draft will rb rich...I would'nt mind taking a Steve Slaton or ray rice...

I agree that RB is not our most pressing need, and that we do need starters. However, isn't McFadden going to be a top 5 pick? I'm not planning on us being in position to select McFadden.

That said, if Peterson is on the board at #10, I can appreciate the bind which the FO is in. No matter what they do, they will be second-guessed. Picked AD? "Should have traded down, don't they know they have so many holes?!" Or....Traded down with BUF or GB? "I cannot believe the Texans - first Bush, now this?!"

Let's examine some Apr 28 outcomes.
Scenario 1: Stand pat, draft AD :)
1.10 Peterson, RB
3.xx Irons, CB
Discussion. AD will not be there at #10, so this is just a thought experiment. But, one never knows really (Leinart fell an awfully long way), so one has to plan for the possibility. The 2nd round is effectively Matt Schaub, QB, and the 3rd round is the BPA at the positions of need: CB, S, DE.

Scenario 2: Cash in on AD and trade back w BUF :)
1.12 Any of
Nelson, S;
Levi Brown, OT,
Leon Hall, CB,
Amobi Okoye, DT
2.12 BPA: WR/CB/DE/S
3.xx BPA balanced against position not addressed in rounds 1 or 2
Discussion. Buffalo needs a RB in the worst way. They will be itching to move up for Peterson. And if Peterson is not there, they might itch to move up for Lynch if the Texans play their cards right. We recover the 2nd round pick, with the effect being that our QB, Matt Schaub, cost a 3rd round pick (ie, discounted next years' 2 back to today's 3 -- a TVM thing; forgive me, I'm a finance wonk at heart).

Scenario 3: Cash in on AD and trade back w GB :)
1.16 Reggie Nelson, S or Amobi Okoye, DT
2 BPA balanced against need
3 BPA balanced against needs not addressed
Discussion. I like the trade down with GB the best. They need a RB in the worst way and should look to leapfrog BUF for a shot at Peterson, giving the Texans the most leverage. Additionally, at 16, Reggie Nelson provides better value than reaching at 10. We might get an extra 4th to go along with that 2.

And then, you can imagine scenarios in which we trade with NE, or perhaps CAR.

I just can't believe for a second that AP would fall to 12 - if he does and the Texans don't grab him...

[insert angry smilie]

I have been saying that AP drops to us for quite some time and we would be fools not to take him. I just feel he is that talented. I readily admit our major needs are at FS, CB2, C and WR2.

I still do not understand why we re-signed Dayne, admittedly I have not looked at the contract and will need to see what the impact is if we make an early exit.

there's a couple of things wrong with the way that mock was...one i don't think the texans would pass on peterson if he was there...but he won't be...somebody will either take him or trade up for him...i don't see him falling down to 10...i think detriot will take quinn and cleveland will take peterson
