i'll say again.........WAIT FOR MCFADDEN FROM ARKANSAS next year!
We have more than enough RB's to get us through the year. Yes I love AP but to me its not a pressing need right now.
We NEED STARTERS.
Our O-line is still in questionable shape. We know the secondary needs major help. A WR to go opposite of AJ. D-line needs another playmaker.
I want to go defense first round and offense third.
Right now I'd be very happy with Landry, Nelson, Anderson, or Branch.
If A. Gonzo who is rated in the 2nd happens to fall to the 3rd he's be my pick there right now.
I agree that RB is not our most pressing need, and that we do need starters. However, isn't McFadden going to be a top 5 pick? I'm not planning on us being in position to select McFadden.
That said, if Peterson is on the board at #10, I can appreciate the bind which the FO is in. No matter what they do, they will be second-guessed. Picked AD? "Should have traded down, don't they know they have so many holes?!" Or....Traded down with BUF or GB? "I cannot believe the Texans - first Bush, now this?!"
Let's examine some Apr 28 outcomes.
Scenario 1: Stand pat, draft AD
1.10 Peterson, RB
3.xx Irons, CB
Discussion. AD will not be there at #10, so this is just a thought experiment. But, one never knows really (Leinart fell an awfully long way), so one has to plan for the possibility. The 2nd round is effectively Matt Schaub, QB, and the 3rd round is the BPA at the positions of need: CB, S, DE.
Scenario 2: Cash in on AD and trade back w BUF
1.12 Any of
Nelson, S;
Levi Brown, OT,
Leon Hall, CB,
Amobi Okoye, DT
2.12 BPA: WR/CB/DE/S
3.xx BPA balanced against position not addressed in rounds 1 or 2
Discussion. Buffalo needs a RB in the worst way. They will be itching to move up for Peterson. And if Peterson is not there, they might itch to move up for Lynch if the Texans play their cards right. We recover the 2nd round pick, with the effect being that our QB, Matt Schaub, cost a 3rd round pick (ie, discounted next years' 2 back to today's 3 -- a TVM thing; forgive me, I'm a finance wonk at heart).
Scenario 3: Cash in on AD and trade back w GB
1.16 Reggie Nelson, S or Amobi Okoye, DT
2 BPA balanced against need
3 BPA balanced against needs not addressed
Discussion. I like the trade down with GB the best. They need a RB in the worst way and should look to leapfrog BUF for a shot at Peterson, giving the Texans the most leverage. Additionally, at 16, Reggie Nelson provides better value than reaching at 10. We might get an extra 4th to go along with that 2.
And then, you can imagine scenarios in which we trade with NE, or perhaps CAR.
