CJ Stroud year 2

Don't know what to make of this, good or bad.

*****************************

C.J Stroud, the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, has led the Texans to an AFC South division title and an AFC wild-card round playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers, despite a slight statistical decline. “I don’t think I’m a great (leader),” Stroud said with a smile. “I don’t know, that’s probably a bad thing to say about yourself, but I don’t think I’m all that when it comes to leading. I just try to be myself. I’m stubborn in a lot of ways and, yeah, I think that kind of carried into the sport.”

He further added, “Even as a kid, my mom used to always say how stubborn I was and I think just having a standard is how I
hear it. It’s like stubborn, I just have a standard on how I like things to be done and how I hold myself is a standard.”

Man stop trying to be technical. On that run, dude was pumped the heck up. Swung his fist in excitement and everything.
There's something technical about him rolling out to his right and heaving the ball 40 yds against his body? While not advisable that was a great play and he started to play better than he had been all game up until that point IMHO.

Nope the play where he dropped the snap, picked it up and heaved a 40 yd completion got him going IMHO.

I think so too. Was it because in that play and moment he just relied on his instincts instead of if thinking about a play too much?

Maybe that spurred the just play and don’t over think the play. He seemed a little more relaxed after that.

Don’t know.

Exactly

He did look more comfortable. He started throwing the ball on time and with more accuracy than he really has all season. It's like a light came on, you can win a championship with yesterday's 2nd half version of CJ.

When nothing has gone right and then all of a sudden you make a big play that absolutely should have gone terribly… you gain confidence. We saw CJ get his mojo back that very moment!

I can remember the great John Elway making a play similar to that back in the day so IMO that
puts our boy in pretty heady company, so it's just about the highest praise I could give him.

I don't get the gist of what y'all are discussing, but those beautiful nuggets from above, occasionally .... usually when they're needed most .... and then we get to enjoy the miracle that is Ol' Mo' , the most celestial, ethereal occasion that occurs in the sport .... when God steps in and puts things in their proper natural order ! Amen. (Not poking fun .... I maintain a healthy relationship with the Big Guy) - not too fond of ..... 0 and 17 !

Exactly.

CJ doesn’t even have to be elite. Just be good enough. And the defense can do the rest.

He doesn’t have to be elite like Lamar, Allen, Burrow, or Mahomes.

One day he can get there.

For now be like Goff. Efficient and good enough to win a Superbowl.

And better than the Trevor Lawerence and Dak Prescotts of the NFL.

This appears to be an item that’s becoming a debate among at least some Texans fans. I’m not religious, spiritual sure, but if there’s one thing we know about CJ it’s that he’s a god-fearing man and I’d bet that anything he says about who he is is the truth and he’ll never say anything deceptive about who he is.

I’m better than good with that. What he does between the lines and how he carries himself outside the lines and with his teammates is what matters but I like that CJ will tell you his weaknesses, and he’s just a flawed man on earth serving Christ, trying to get better each day.

That’s the ultimate humility. I’ll take CJ the leader over a guy like R. Wilson or Rodgers any day.

Kid is 23 years old. Youngest qb in the playoffs. 23 years old and is leading grown ass men 3-6 years older than him...like, they are looking to him. It’s just hard to really see yourself as that guy when you’re so young So I get what he’s saying here. He thinks what he’s doing is not the big of deal b/c it’s who he is; he doesn’t have to put on like some guys…looking at you Russell Wilson.

But just Think about where u were in life and the things you thought about when you were that age. The things you THOUGHT you knew.

This kid is mature beyond his years just off the fact that he understands he still has some growing to do. Most of us at that age thought we had this life **** just about sewed up.

I look forward to watching him grow in the coming years. The only thing that can slow/retard that growth is the FO. But I don’t anticipate that happening. Whether or not he can lead us to the promised land remains to be seen, but I know 1 thing, if he continues on his current trajectory, It’s gonna be fun to watch him try to as the leader of my favorite team.

Burrow didn't have any issues leading his men to a SB in yr two. Jayden Daniels?

I'm with you and hope you're right. You've got a lot more faith in CJ than I do. He's going to need everything to be right around him to win a SB. He's not a guy that can lift his guys up like Daniels/Burrow, Stafford etc.... You know, QB's that get the crap beat out of them and keep coming back for more.

Did Burrows HC decide to kick a 55 yard FG into the wind?

I agree Cj has issues that some people here don't want to see. But the way you seem to pin Cj Stroud for not taking this team to the Super Bowl in year two makes you seem a little crazy.

Josh Allen has never been to a Super Bolw, has not won a Championship at any level. This may be his year. Cj has time.

I mean do we really need to do this again man? Get at me when Burrow throw to his 4th and 5th string WRs and carries his shitty OC to a SB all the while playing behind a pasta strainer level o-line.

Jayden Daniels right now… pretty much the same thing as Burrow the year he went to the SB only he’s a 1st year pro….still older than CJ as a rookie tho.

Like I said I hope you're right.

It's really going to come down to if he wants to put in the work. The talent is there. I'm hoping in FA/Draft they get him the weapons he needs to succeed. Unfortunately I was saying these same things last off-season. I still believe good times are ahead. He's got a lot of work to do to get into the Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, LJ crowd.

On another note I've been spending time looking at Jalen Royals and Jaylin Noel who're going to be at the Sr. Bowl. I like both of them quite a bit. Not as 1st rd picks, but maybe in the 3rd/4th rd range.

Nope, not at all, I think CJ did a great job in the playoffs and gave his undermanned squad a chance to win. I'm still excited for the future. It's just that he's gotta a lot of work to do (footwork) to become the top tier QB we all hope he can become.

After watching CJ against the Chiefs, I feel relieved. He looked more like the CJ we know and love. If only he had even one more bona fide weapon to throw to in that game I think we are looking at a different result.
Anyway, back to my main point.
I think CJ will be fine going forward and will obviously improve as he gains more experience. We did see a sophomore slump - not surprising as opposing DC's have film on him now and find ways to confuse a new young QB but CJ will get used to it as time goes by and find ways around them.
So now, I believe we must build the offense!
If you have a strong O, it takes a lot of pressure off the D and they will be even better by default.
Give me another weapon opposite Nico, at least one stud added to the Oline and a bona fide dual purpose TE, and I reckon we will be in business.
Some might think it a luxury, but a bona fide 1-2 punch out of the backfield will do wonders for our O as well.

I spent all year worrying about how CJ didn't look right and how 2023 might have just been Fool's Gold but now that it is in the rear view mirror I have this feeling that 2024 might be the statistical step back that leads to a bigger step forward. No matter how good a player is they all have to grow after getting here and 2023 CJ looked like he was hatched with a Super Bowl ring forming on his finger. It seemed too good to be true. He probably learned more this year in the first few weeks than he did in all of the previous season.
