CJ Stroud year 2

Just watching Justin Fields last night. Almost every drop back, I was thinking to myself... Throw the ball already. Justin hesitates and is allergic to anticipation throws. Has to see it to throw it. You combine that with the slow separation of hands to release of the ball and I have a really hard time seeing him be successful long term.

CJ has spoiled us, and its made me reflect on Deshaun.
To add to what you're saying, it's not just Cj. He's got to be able to trust those receivers. The receiver has to prove trustworthy.

Some of those "anticipation throws" are dangerous & could be INTs. Some are thrown perfect to where only the receiver will get the ball, but there have been a few, if the receiver isn't there, he's throwing it right to a defender.

So that trust has to be developed. Communication, being on the same page... it's not as easy as Cj is making it look, & it's not just Cj.

I’m kind of enjoying the take your medicine bumps deja is posting. Steel went to the DJT school of wild claims and no contrition.
If only we had a steelBtexans message board, those types of conversations would be appropriate. We're supposed to come here & talk about the Texans. I understand the interraction with each other & that's cool. But when we get to the point of trying to change people... we know it's not going to happen. We're wasting our time & going further off tangent than the original wild claim.

We know who we are, you know me, I know you, interact accordingly. Some folks talk to talk, I try not to engage with them. Some people are negative nancies... some people are lollipops & rainbows. Some people I enjoy having a conversation with. Some people I don't... so I don't.

meh....everybody makes predictions, and most predictions are wrong. Some folks don't like admitting they're wrong, and adjust "facts" accordingly. The only thing that really matters is whether or not the Texans finally get their sh!t together, not who predicted what. I don't care who you are, if you predict enough stuff, some of it will happen, most won't.

I predicted Richardson would be the best of the rookie QBs this year, so far that's wrong. I predicted Texans with 5-7 wins this season, that's looking (so far) to be wrong as well. Here's another prediction, I'm going to IHOP this morning. That one won't be wrong.

I don't think CJ was hard to predict.

All the signs were there.

The Panthers reportedly traded up for CJ and then overthought it.

Even McCown was more bullish on Stroud than Young in his video assessment.

Thank you Carolina for buying in to the S2 story.

That would only happen if he refused to play for the Texans and I don't think that'll happen. He loves ballin' too much

I also think he has to high of character for that. True, he could change or it could be an act, but I don't think so. The one who will not be spoke of had a slight attitude from day 1. It just got bigger as we won more or he was talked about more

I remember watching one of Seth Payne’s videos and he mentioned that even though Altuve was represented by Scott Boras, Altuve still remained faithful to the Astros. Stroud may end up doing the same thing. We can only hope lol.

During the Kubiak era, they ran some good screens. But the improvement over recent seasons is drastic and is a good sign.
I remember some okay ones from that era, but I also remember that being an era where 3rd and long meant a punt. We need 8 yards? Here's 6.

That Pierce screen was so clean it looked like it was from a video game. He gets the ball with three clean blockers ready to go right in front of him. I actually think if he takes a better angle (and runs off of Schultz' right shoulder) at the end he could have housed it.

5 guys on the left were in great position to block.

Beautiful inside screen up the middle.
You don’t see that often.

I get it. SBT vitriol was sooo over the top for such an extended period of time. It would seem that the retraction should have the same energy, not a simple "oopsie, let's move on".
But what do I know, I'm just a waterboy eating my popcorn
Just to be clear you are a macho Grande waterboy!

😀🫡

CJ speaks up about pre draft cognition testing. I agree with him. Testing is great for mental development maybe. But, don't help you when a 300lb man running 20mph runs over you. And you're slammed into the ground like a tent spike. Then you have to get up, shake it off (if you can good players do) and know 100% what to do on the next play.

We see what we want to see.

Which rookie QB you know of that went to a game with the hometown vet?

Name one.
So .. you point out the one game mentioned? I think everyone would see that as mentoring. Would you care to stretch yourself and identify another?

Because Stroud is mentoring Keenum
Keenum was brought in to be a mentor to Stroud.
There's no doubt about that.
Demeco said so.

I was very happy they brought Keenum back where he belongs.
This time around is to be in that exact role.

Directly or indirectly, Keenum is a good influencer. For Stroud, specifically.
He's going to be good football coach.
He loves and cares about the game, just like DR, and the people.

No one derailing a thread should be allowed to do so. You or the other guy.
How can someone simply posting just a fraction of someone’s comments, not mine, be the one derailing a thread? Why wasn’t this subtle racist crap stopped by the moderators? I was deeply bothered by it but of course it really didn’t matter Because I’m not part of the “clique”. Kick me out for all I give a ****.

Explain what this means. What are you attempting to say? cant answer a point you can’t explain.
Wrong is not defined by how many times it is done. You are just as wrong as he is. I think your anger is justified but that doesn't allow you to act like him. You do not seem to understand.

I know, which is what surprised me that he's downplaying what Stroud is showing in four games. Simms acts like he's some QB savant, but then fails to support it with his takes. It was late at night when I posted that, so I'll readily admit I was drunk on media Kool Aid from all the positive vibes about Stroud. I just expected a deeper perspective from Simms instead of slobbering over AR.

I don't disagree about Richardson, but he's a highlight reel. He'll get injured out of the NFL before he can realize his potential. Defenses are already comprehending how to play running QBs. He's already getting hurt in 4 games. It's just a matter of time before the NFL takes its toll on that style of play. There's a reason why passing QBs last longer in the NFL.
Whenever, Chris Simms acts like a QB savant. People should show or remind him of this clip.

He also knows how to go in at the half playing like garbage. Then shake it off and come out with a different mindset in the 2nd half. Something that we really haven't had CJ doing even in 2 losses CJ seemed to play pretty well in both halfs. But, we KNOW it is going to happen sometime.

Similar to what I said prior to the draft.

The test measures how people, not "players" process and make split-second decisions. The test is not on a football field. It's taken sitting in a chair, in front of a TV screen, with a keypad. There are no chairs, TVs, and keypads on the field. Just as there is no one about to about to knock the snot out of you while you watch the screen and hit the keypad. Anyone on this forum could ace the S2. Doesn't mean you can play QB in the NFL.

Nothing wrong with @SnakeEyes post as he was providing commentary rather than just re-posting the link. I do this all the time.

This looks exactly like the reports during preseason between Stroud and Slowik where CJ was having a hard time getting the play calls in on time because they were too long and elaborate and they decided to change it up and make them more easily digestible/repeatable.

I couldn't give the first f*ck about Chris Simms, but NFL play calls being read like a combination of scientific names for animals and distant star formations is pretty obviously unnecessary and esoterically silly.

I know you just like to play.
I need to nip it right off your snout.

When did the Texans sign Keenum?

Who was vocal about the Texans drafting a QB - NOW?

You need to nevermind my snout. I got snout watchers of my own, thank you very much.
Lighten up Francis, he's offering to snort coke off your nips. Be flattered. 🎉👍😄👏

What do you want me to say other than Stroud has exceeded my expectations as a player so far by a large amount. I still dont like the person.

I’m kind of enjoying the take your medicine bumps deja is posting. Steel went to the DJT school of wild claims and no contrition. Make bizarre wild claims. Then never admit your wrong. Just adjust the blame point, then move the goal posts.

So now it’s wait for three years. When that’s not an issue, it will be he hasn’t yet won a SB. Once he wins a SB, it will be ya but if he was really good, he’d win multiple. It will never end. Give up folks. Steel is a good guy, and an OG of this board, but he is who he is and leopards don’t change their spots.

I’m at least happy that we have a rainbow of viewpoints and personalities here. It keeps it fun and engaging. Do we all agree that if we all agreed, it would be as boring and dull as watching grass grow? Can I get an amen on that? This isn’t rocket science. While I enjoyed the burn this morning and steel probably deserved the burn, I am ready to turn the page.
What burn happened?

I played in a golf tournament in Louisiana this weekend, so I didn't check in on the MB much at all.

Your post is a freaking LIE

I've had the same opinions about white QB's too that I've been wrong about. Example: I think Brett Favre is dumb as a box of rocks and although his career was great despite this, later in life he's proven to be dumb as a box of rocks. Truth is you want a double standard when it comes to QB's of color. I gave my thoughts on Stroud and said I probably got the eval wrong and that I still dont like the person, why? because I dont like the people he's got representing him (Rightfully so after the Derrick debacle.) Or the people he looks up too. Am I allowed to have an opinion.

Because he attended the "White Party"? Did you see CJ's recent interview with Pat McAfee? CJ said he spent most of the time at the party with Joe Burrow and that he got a LOT of good advice from Joe. It looks like it was time well spent.

There is a press conference this week where Stroud goes on to praise Slowik about how he is smart guy and how it’s good working with him.

I think we've all been extremely pleased with the job Slowik has done. Before the season I was worried about whether or not Slowik would properly develop Stroud. Needless to say, Slowik and Stroud have both been amazing. With that said, I have seen how respectful Stroud has been to DeMeco and so I am skeptical that Stroud has been anything less than respectful to Slowik.
