CJ Stroud year 2

Will Levis isn't signed? He is obviously a dumb low S2 guy and Kentucky trash raised by wolves in a trailer park. You'll see in 3 years.
Yeah, but as a pig are you not genetically programmed against wolves? I don't know but maybe Kentucky trash?

Whoops. Almost forgot to say.. asking for a friend.

Why? Top guy sets the market. CJ will be signed either over the weekend or very early next week.

Basics yes but details no. How/when the signing bonus is paid out, various performance bonuses, offset language etc. all needs to be negotiated. If you were right all of these guys would sign within a few weeks of being drafted. There’s a reason why Young signed the day prior to reporting.

Exactly. The point isn't that Young signed before Stroud. It's that Young's signing bonus is paid upfront. They will now negotiate off Young's contract structure.

And that is why normally the 1.1 pick would be the last to sign

What difference does the #1 pick make to the #2.

#2 pick last year & the #3 pick this year should be his only concern.

Granted it’s not his fault the Panthers scheduled their camp a week ahead of Houston’s. I get that. No reason for him to sign before camp. At the same time, absofreakinpositively no reason for him to wait until the last minute.

You guys aren’t worried about the agent wagging the dog, but this is the first Stroud/Mulugheta interaction with our team. Not looking good. Again, absofreakinpositively no good reason other than to demonstrate a vulgar display of power.

May be a little hyperbole on my part.

Trevor's agent kicked the door in on this issue
Young's agent got him the same

Precedent was set and confirmed by other signings prior to Bryce and Stroud
The Jaguars made a big departure from their customary signing bonus payment schedule with 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence. His entire $24,118,900 signing bonus was payable within 15 business days of signing. In addition to Lawrence in 2021, quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Trey Lance -- the second and third overall picks -- got their $22,924,132 and $22,163,824 signing bonuses paid in a lump sum, respectively, by the Jets and 49ers. Receipt of the money was in a similar time frame as the first overall pick's signing bonus.

Beat me to it.. That is the new top (probably top 3) QB pick type contract. 2022 was a outlier, because there were no QBs drafted near the top of the draft. I expect to see Stroud get a similar deal..

Why does #3 matter, but not #1?

He should make sure his contract is in line with last year's #2, possibly better & in line with #3 this year, definitely better.

#1 deserves a privilege #2 does not. #2 deserves a privilege #3 does not. #3 deserves a privilege #4 does not. #4 deserves a privilege #5 does not. #5 deserves a privilege #6 does not. #6 deserves a privilege #7 does not... etc...

It's #1's job to make sure he gets his privilege.

shouldn't matter... the Jaguar's extended the same provisions to Travon Walker. So if Jacksonville is setting precedent, it's position independent now.

The dollar amounts are set per pick slot. #2 will get more that #3, less than #1, and more than 2022 #2. That's non-negotiable. How the signing bonus is paid out (not the amount of the bonus) is negotiable. The amount of guaranteed money the teams have to pay a player that is waived and picked up is negotiable. The actual money on the contract is set.

& #2 picks contract is not & should not be affected by the #1 picks contract.

If you're Caserio & Stroud says, "but the #1 pick got so&so."

Caserio should say, "what's that got to do with the price of tea in China."

So, if you are selling your house and a prospective buyer comes in with a bid lower than the listing price. You tell the buyer that the house next door went for this amount and the house across the street sold for this amount and you priced it based on the trends in your neighborhood. It's okay when the buyer responds with, "what's that got to do with the price of tea in China"?

It will always be too soon for the excuses to start on this MB.
and in some cases its never soon enough to disparage or talk shiza about them...right?

The fact that the other 2 qbs mention being signed already and their TC dates either start today or tomorrow should play some factor in viewing this...would I like him signed already? Of course, but until he misses TC days Im not going to worry about it.

Obviously you don't read Lucky's posts either.

Money isn't the issue. The question is how the money is paid out. Some people believe if the #1 pick gets his bonus up front a few days from signing, the #2 pick should be able to say, if the #1 pick got it, I should.

Doesn't make sense to me.

I can see the #1 pick saying as much.

Instead, a better argument for the #2 pick would be Zak Wilson & Trey Lance got their bonus up front, I should too.

That makes sense.

I'm not disparaging him, I will ask you, are you surprised that they were able to get a deal done with WA but not Stroud?

thanks for the link to that article. Sheds a little light on a subject not discussed or talked about very often....but in the article it talks about the bonus being spread out over 5yrs which used to be the norm...now you have teams paying it out all at once in a lump sum...so Im assuming that the numbers that effect the cap are different in a situation where the bonus isnt amortized over the life of the contract....correct or did I read that wrong???

The bonuses are spread out for the cap over the life of the contract regardless of a lump sum or payment installations.

Or, as Lucky just pointed out, you read it wrong.

It does say the signing bonus cap hit is spread out over the 4 years, but how it is paid is negotiated. the Owners want to spread payments out and the players want it paid up front. As has been discussed extensively in this forum recently. It also talks about the offsets and why they are a point of negotiation.

edit: I see that I type too slow :D
