CJ Stroud year 2

Excerpts from Sports Illustrated article:

"He handles himself well. He came in the building with these unbelievable leadership skills, and he's killing it," Tunsil said. "He's a straight dawg. He comes in there ready to work, he handles the huddle perfectly and he goes out there and balls, man. You've got to appreciate that, especially in a young quarterback like C.J."
Naming the Texans' starting quarterback for the 2023 campaign might be difficult for Ryans. But Stroud's performance during 11-on-11 and two-minute drills in workouts - plus the faith the locker room seems to have in him - could make the decision easier for the first-year head coach.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said Stroud is putting in the work while describing his work ethic as "awesome." Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson said Stroud is "already way ahead of pace."

I want to see a bad report about any plsyer in the NFL after OTA's.

Just because I'm not buying what the McNair';s are selling. I felt the same way when they drafted Derrick. What I really dont like is the decision making that went into the Stroud pick.
Young and Stroud were acknowledged as #1a and #1b at the qb position. If it was decided by all in coaching and management to draft a qb with a one, what else was there to decide. With Young gone, I wouldn't have drafted Stroud, but I recognize that this isn't a decision most in the NFL would have taken.

I wouldn't have drafted a QB this year, but I checked all my office drawers and cannot find any documentation around the NFL team that I own. If they were going to take one this year, I am glad it was either Young or Stroud.

I have to wonder if all of the "marketing decision" talk would be spamming this MB had it been Young or Anderson instead of Stroud. Feels like the DM Effect more than anything.

You feel the same way about the Chargers that I feel about the Texans. The only championship they're going to win is a marketing championship. Kinda like your Chargers. You've really changed your tune. Do what you gotta do buddy. I'm gonna miss you.

Luckily I have a life. Regardless I’ll be pulling hard for Stroud and the Texans well as Justin Herbert & his newest weapon Quentin Johnston.

If Stroud had gone #1…..man, I think that changes the front end of the draft for the Texans. I believe the Texans would’ve stayed at #2 b/c teams with a desire for a QB weren’t going to trade up for Young. This is how the Texans draft might’ve looked:

1-002: DE- Will Anderson Jr (Alabama) - Texans Pick
1-012: CB- Christian Gonzalez (Oregon) - Texans Pick (Patriots)

2-033: OC- John Michael-Schmitz (Minnesota) - Texans Pick (Giants)
2-062: QB- Hendon Hooker (Tennessee) - From Eagles 062 & 248 / Eagles Got: 065, 188, 230 (Lions)

3-069: WR- Jalin Hyatt (Tennessee) - From Rams 069 & 191 / Rams Got: 073 & 161 (Giants)

4-109: DT- Dylan Horton (TCU) - From Raiders 109 & 174 / Raiders Got: 104 & 203

5-167: LB- Henry To’oTo’o (Alabama) - From Rams 167 / Rams Got: 174 & 259

6-201: OC- Jarrett Patterson (Notre Dame) - From Vikings 201 / Vikings Got: 219 & DE- Ross Blacklock

6-205: WR- Xavier Hutchinson (Iowa State) - From Bills 205 / Bills Got: 230 & 2024 RD6

7-230: Pick Traded to Bills: From Bucs 230 & G- Shaq Mason / Bucs Got: 179

7-248: SS- Gervarrius Owens (Houston) - From Eagles (**Taking Owens instead of Brandon Hill (Pittsburgh**) (Giants)

It would’ve been an interesting draft b/c picks 12, 33, 62, 69, and 248 have done their job thus far with their respective teams….except Hooker who’s been doing his job in the QB Room and participating as much as allowed. The Lions still like the pick.

I typically swat at annoying mosquitos when they bother me as do most posters here. It's hard to just let them do their mosquito things without getting bothered, but for the well-being of this website, I will do my best from here on out.

Remember the old insect commercial where the bugs yell RAID!!?

I propose if we see a post we do not like we post

RAID!!

Maybe the critters will leave...

Be still my beating heart!

It obviously didn't teach him the lesson of you are who you hang with.

I find it hilarious that you try to denigrate my character and I don't do this to you. You know you've lost the debate when you have to resort to these types of tactics.
Who is he hanging with? people at the party? He looks totally disinterested in his photos. He hangs with his teammates. But I give you credit. You know all about character denigration. Funny how you were taught god, work and family by your dad. That‘s exactly what CJ has shown to be all about. but I guess he doesn’t get to wear that badge of righteousness because his dad is in prison.

But aren’t you denigrating CJ’s character? But when someone does you like that you resort this and more.

Talk about double standard at it finest. Better yet throwing rocks and trying to hide your hands. Lol

The starting QB of a professional football team is fair game and his background should be thoroughly investigated. If his background doesn't compare to other championship level QB's then you draft them at your own peril. This is much different than attacking a posters character, which surely you can understand the reasons for this and BTW, this happens to be against the forum rules. We're talking apples/oranges here.

Many of your posts you base on a premise of TRUTH, not opinion. Truth is fair game to question Without denigrating someone’s character since truth is not opinion. We all are looking for the truth. but you couch your truths as extensions of your character so to question your truths is to, in your mind, denigrate your character. Your truths often come after you have established a moral high ground (god, work, family) so now you have “fair” ground to denigrate CJ’s character. I question that truth, not your character. You should say you had the active benefit of a father that, with CJ’s father in prison, he will have larger obstacles to overcome. what’s there to denigrate. That’s opinion, not truth. That isn’t against forum rules.

My character over the yrs has been proven to be impeccable, even though everybody has made mistakes in their lives and no my father wasn't active in my life throughout my childhood, but I learned by watching how he lived his life from a distance.

I dont believe in investing a franchises future in players that have to overcome these obstacles. This is why if I had to choose a QB from this draft I liked Young/Hooker/Bennett, they all have come from solid family backgrounds. Tell me how many QB's with Stroud's background have won championships? This should be fair game and yes, that's an uncomfortable truth.

In three years at Ohio State there wasn't a whiff of any character issues with CJ. He was a captain for a reason.

To prepare to hit the ground running in his rookie campaign, the Ohio State product has conducted extra throwing sessions at the University of Houston, which have included receivers Robert Woods and Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz. Mills has also been part of the workouts.
"It was good, definitely just building chemistry trying to get timing down and trying to be as best we can so we can get to training camp and dominate," Stroud said. "That was the goal for that one to keep building and have a good offseason."

Pointing out that no QB with his background has ever won a championship isn't wrong and it's definitely fair game.

You just dont like the facts.
Speaking of facts. How many QBs with Stroud's background have played in the NFL and not won a championship? Compare that number with QBs with two parents who played in the NFL and never won a championship. Which one is higher? Based on this player's background nonsense, you would draft Nate Peterman over CJ Stroud.

What's funny is even if Stroud's father was not in prison but a doctor from Nigeria, you would still have a problem with him. Simply pulling silly narratives does not make it a fact. For example
  1. If he drove a Tesla, you would post no QB who drives a Tesla has won a championship.
  2. No QB with his hair style has won a championship.
  3. No QB born after 2000 has won a championship.
  4. No QB born in Rancho Cucamonga, California has won a championship.
  5. No QB drafted #2 by the Texans have won a championship.
I came up with these "facts" in 10 seconds. Similar to your QB background, these facts are not creative or even insightful. It's just gibberish to drive a narrative.

Sadly, until relatively recently black QB’s didn’t get much of a shot for a variety of reasons. They were thought to not have the requisite smarts to run an offense or thought to be better suited to positions that required more athleticism.. You want facts? Fact is racism has kept black QB’s to a minimum until the 21st century. And it’s really only been a decade or so here it’s totally opened up. That’s a good thing. It should be celebrated. Doug Williams broke the color barrier and opened the door like Jackie Robinson in baseball.

So when we say no black QB from a single parent household has won A SB that’s disingenuous at best and at it’s core it’s a bigoted view. New game- how many sacks will JJ Watt have this year. Y’all realize you gotta be in the game to play it right?

A championship most likely ain't happening. Some like you want to go off on a tangent. I guess you believe in outliers? Stroud certainly would be an outlier if he wins a championship. You can either accept this or not I could care less. I dont believe in outliers, but hey to each their own. Maybe Stroud is the unicorn.

Be specific when you say "his background".

Because the whole "no black teenager raised by a single mom with his daddy in prison has ever won a championship" angle is really starting to sound like this is about something more than football.
It's not about anything but winning championships, read my post above.

The only tangent I see is saying he ain't winning a championship because his daddy went to prison.

It's irrelevant. Moreso than a player's lack of size, or school, or ethnicity and profession of their parents. Which are also inconsequential relative to ability.

Wrong? It just tells us a lot about you.
It's very relevant. What it says is I dont believe in outliers. It has nothing to do with ethnicity and everything to do with having a stable background. If Stroud wins a championship it will be an outlier. Just like Young because of his size will be an outlier if he wins a championship. I was on board with drafting Hooker because he's got the size and comes from a football background. I'm guessing you believe in outliers, which is fine, but dont expect any parades down on Kirby.

Because of his background, look at Hooker as an example of what I'm talking about. Also look at the last fatherless QB the Texans had. How did that turnout? How many guys with this background have won championships? It's not just the father not being present. Look at Manziel, his dad's family was a bunch of chicken fighters and it was pretty obvious to me that Manziel wasn't going to win a championship. He is from a family that has more alcohol before noon than most people drink in a week. That's not conducive to winning championships.

According to you. As long as the McNairs own the Texans, they are not winning a championship. So, regardless of the QB. Wouldn't a marketing organization with a football division winning a championship be the ultimate outlier?

True, because they make decisions that football people should be making.

Except he wasn't fatherless. You keep pushing a false narrative. His dad went to prison when he was like 14. Until that point he was raised in a two-parent home. His dad was even a preacher for many years before he got caught up in drugs.

You attempt to present him as some gangster kid who raised himself on the mean streets and only got out of the hood because he could throw a football, but he will always be pulled back to the hood.

Not sure why this false narrative is a hill you want to die on. I could easily conjecture, but you seem comfortable standing before your God and defending your words, so you be you brother.

Me? I'm going to give myself the TK talk about why I keep responding and promise myself to stop.

Oh no, he was just partying with a bunch of celebrities on the 4th of July.

Just like I stated the young man is putting in the work.

Sorry I should have been more clear, he was raised by a drug dealer.

You do you.

I joined way back in in 2002 and enjoyed discussing Texans football with most members for years...but then there were some cancerous members who made this message board UNBEARABLE so I took A LONG HIATUS....I come back to check in 4 yrs ago and same cancerous drivel and garbage is being spewed....come back again now that we have a real coach and DeMeco has come home, we draft a top rated QB in Stroud, the best defensive player in the draft in Will Anderson Jr, and try to fill holes with the rest of our picks....and yet the same negative nancy's are still here living in pure misery and trying to make everyone else miserable along with them....WTH?!?!?!

It’s the 80/20 rule that applies to any subject under the sun. I don’t mind it because I am a strong free speech guy. Let people speak, and then others can decide what to do with it.

I've been here all along too..

It does help to back out occasionally for a day or two and re-set one's mindset.

It was toughest on me during the NSZ time until I realized I was part of the problem. Hard headed, often stupid.

Nothing here is earth shattering and worth missing out on the benefit to be gained from some of our posters here.

Good people with differing ideas. Some are pretty sharp. Filter out what you can agree with, ignore what upsets you.

Laugh at others, laugh at yourself too when applicable. It's just a message board.
