hollywood_texan said:The 24.5 million is only the guaranteed side. Expect his total contract to be around $50 million or so. Probably less because of the new CBA contract requirements due to length of contracts, so he should make the same amount per year, just a shorter term.
NO. 1 PICK CAN GET AT LEAST $27.64125 MILLION GUARANTEED
Okay, so maybe we weren't wrong after all.
On Tuesday morning, we took issue with a suggestion by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle that it would be impossible for the top pick in 2006 to get as much as $22 million in guaranteed money, even though the first overall pick in 2005 received $24 million in guaranteed cash.
On Tuesday night, we acknowledged that we were wrong and that McClain was right. (Tastes like chicken.)
But now that we've cleared up our remaining area of confusion regarding the manner in which the 25 percent rule applies to rookie deals, we'll acknowledge only that McClain was on the right track, but that his attempt to explain the situation was woefully incomplete.
Per a league source with experience negotiating the contracts of high first-round picks, the maximum guaranteed money of $21.2625 million to the first pick is premised upon the receipt of an option bonus that extends an initial five-year deal to a six-year package. If the player is willing to forgo an option bonus and thus sign a straight six-year deal, the maximum amount of guaranteed money that can be paid shoots to $27.64125 million.
Hey - how's that 3 team trade working out? You supposedly could be held to that info also? Who was it....New Orleans, the Jets and Oakland? That should go through any day now, right?Bongo59 said:CC has told the national media it is Bush vs MWilliams.............both are in Houston by tonight.................he has them rated exactly the same.............he said it..................not me...............he said the deal is all about signability...............Mario is going to be easier to sign............but RBush wants to go at one and his side has caved a bit to get the deal structured under the new CBA...........................i am told RBush will not take a chance on falling...............that is why he is personally coming to houston today..............and the deal will get done................Mario's people know it as well.................................you can hold me to that info.

What's going to happen to Domanick Davis?

Frak The Jags said:Jerek, Mario doesn't want to play for us. He wants to play for the Saints. Kind of ironic that we had this fear that Reggie wouldn't be signable & it has turned out to be Williams.![]()

But the other notable deal soon will be coming out of Houston. The Texans are on the verge of doing what so many college defenses could not -- bringing down running back Reggie Bush.
With significant progress having been made in negotiations for a new contract between Bush and the Texans, multiple sources believe a contract could be done well before Saturday's draft, maybe as early as Thursday.
Bush is expected to receive somewhere around a 10 percent increase over what the San Francisco 49ers gave last year's No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Alex Smith, who landed a six-year, $49.5 million deal.
The breakthrough in the talks is said to have come Tuesday night, during long negotiating sessions between the Texans and Bush's representatives. The Texans played the situation just right, using defensive end Mario Williams as leverage against Bush.
Plus, with the looming House-Gate controversy, Bush's people knew that if he didn't go No. 1, he likely would have slid to No. 4, the spot the New York Jets currently hold. Dropping from No. 1 to No. 4 would have cost Bush millions.
One of the ironies of the whole negotiation is that Bush has turned out to be easier to sign than Mario Williams, who expressed utter indifference at the idea of becoming the No. 1 overall pick. In fact, the idea of going to New Orleans is said to have excited Williams more than the idea of going to Houston.
Williams is enamored with the New Orleans coaching staff, wants to play in the city, and was hoping he would land there. It's no cinch he does. It's still possible that the Saints could opt for Virginia offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who is expected to go in the top four picks Saturday.

TEXANS84 said:Yes, but look at the Moulds situation. You really can't complain on that one. Hopefully that starts a spell of good signings to follow.
We should expect this type of money to be thrown around considering the new balloon on the CBA. Scary numbers at first...yes. But think that the cap was literally bumped up 7 million dollars this year and will continue to increase.
OK man, that is your choice.jerek said:Lol, man, believe me, I'm trying to rain on your parade. As I have stated many times, I would be very happy to have either Bush or Williams. Both are phenomenal players and will be a big addition to this team.
I'm just telling you that everything in Casserly's speech today indicated to me that he is trying to soften up the blow to the pro-Bush crowd and defend this "no-namer" guy that virtually no one is rooting for, that virtually no one expects, that they are about to choose. Watch the video and tell me you honestly believe that is a man who is about to choose Reggie Bush:
http://www.houstontexans.com/news/detail.php?PRKey=2535
He spends a good 40% of it talking about how great Mario is and the kicker, "if we choose Mario, don't boo him. Boo me." Watch his body language and his eyes when he talks about Mario. Now there is still time and a lot could happen either way, but my gut says we are going Mario Williams, barring any problems in signing the guy.
And so what if Adam whoever says that Mario doesn't want to be here, or that Bush is all but signed? People have been reporting things for weeks (e.g. Kubiak couldn't get enough of Vince, McNair was enamored, Reggie wanted 30M, Reggie cheats, Mario wants to go to NO -- btw, who honestly would choose to play in NO over here -- this and that, bla bla bla). And as I said, until Tags himself announces that we have drafted Reggie Bush, come this Saturday, I will not believe it.
Frak The Jags said:OK man, that is your choice.
Frak The Jags said:I figured that was what you meant. I mean, I know you aren't Frank The Tank or Thunderkyss, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I do agree that Casserly sounded like he was setting himself up to be the fall guy if MW doesnt work out. Especially since, if the rumors are true, he will be gone. If we come to agreements with both of them before the draft, then I will wonder. But if only Bush has agreed, I think it is a pretty safe bet.![]()
jerek said:Damn, I meant "not trying to rain" ... sorry if that came across the wrong way. You know I am great with either one, I just think the FO is practically broadcasting for MW right now.
For the first time since they exchanged opening proposals with Joel Segal, who represents Bush, progress has been made in negotiations, which could lead to a deal's being agreed on before the draft begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Ben Dogra, who represents Williams, has yet to enter negotiations. Williams' camp believes the Texans plan to select Bush.

John,
I heard on NFL Total Access that Adam Scheffler said the deal is pretty much done with Reggie. $24.6 guaranteed & $49.5 million over five years with a team option for the sixth year. He also stated that Mario Williams would rather play for New Orleans. Can you confirm nor deny any of this? Thanks for your time, as I know you are really busy this time of year.
PS, could you talk about the Texans a little more and the Titans a little less? Just some honest criticism. Thanks again.
Mike,
I talk about whatever people ask me. If they ask me about the Texans, which they almost always do because that's the team I cover, I try to answer. If they ask about the Titans, I try to answer. If Vince goes to the Titans, prepare for a lot of Titans talk.
As for Adam's report, it's true. Can't be 24.6 guaranteed this year, though. Max is less than 22.
Williams has never been involved in negotiations because his agent won't negotiate because it's a smokescreen.
Thanks for writing.
john

" Everything is still up in the air. The way the business is, I'm not exactly sure what's going on. No one team stands out above the rest as far as a feeling goes, but with the Saints I really liked (defensive line) coach Marion (Hobby). He's a good guy and I think I would fit well into their 4-3 scheme. The one that sticks out is San Francisco. They don't typically run a 4-3. It's a mix of 4-3 and 3-4. But the technique they would have me play would work well."
I thought it was interesting He never once mentioned the Texans in this article...![]()
