Brooks Reed - signed w/Falcons

shouldn't this thread be moved to the nfl forum also since he's now a Falcon?

Brooks fell into a support role for JJ.

Possibly, but I think JB was on the right track. When I mentioned an injury, I was thinking of the groin pull in Detroit. CnD at the time had speculated it would be a 2nd degree strain, possibly a 3rd (tear), based on the pain that Reed expressed on the field, where Reed grabbed, and how he was assisted off the field. His recovery period indicated a 2nd degree, but I have to wonder if some tearing was involved based his subsequent decline.

We'd have been nuts to offer him anything even close to what Atlanta gave him. Wish him nothing but the best though. Good luck Brooks!

It is a priority just not in the way you think. It's more complicated than just being able to rush the passer.

The problem with that personnel grouping is that you are basically playing a 5-2 up front. Mercilus and Clowney are basically stand up DEs playing outside of three DTs.

You lose your ability to be versatile in what you call on defense. Neither can play in coverage so they pretty much have to rush to be useful. It makes the pre snap reads way too easy for the QB.

Most of the time you're going to send 4 or 5 guys at the QB. You need that fifth guy to be multiple, so that you can disguise what you want to do. He has to be able to rush when the offense isn't expecting it, but he also needs to be able to cover in space when necessary. That's why the SOLB requires a different type of athlete than the JACK position.

This is why I think Bud Dupree would be the perfect pick for the Texans at 16. Great athlete, very versatile.

I've been a proud member of the Brooke Reed sucks club and have had many textual fisticuffs with Lambert over how good or terrible he is. All I can say is that Brooke is indeed quite awful and we will be just fine without him. Chalk up another blown second rounder to Rick Smith. It's obvious that the coaches expect more out of a OLB than just covering, and it's also obvious that Reed can't rush the passer and is easily blocked by a WR or anyone that really needs or cares to block him. Goodbye Brooke and farewell Lambert.

Unfortunately IronDuck, you are a poor judge of football. We'll just have to wait and see how well Brooks does in Atlanta, and how well whomever the Texans get to fill Reed's role performs. Keep eating popcorn in your boxers and watching the games on TV. And by all means, keep up the hating. You'll have another 53 players next year to abuse. I'm sure you will be able to single out at least one. Get a life! Reed is 22 million dollars richer and I'll still be around.

I know good football when I see it Lamebert and Brooke will be mediocre in Atlanta just like he was mediocre here. We picked up Simon off Baltimore's practice squad and he immediately showed better pass rushing ability than Brooke has ever shown. I truly think that Simon will easily replace Reed.

I already have a player whom I dislike and that's DJ Swearinger and I've been very vocal about my hatred of him and his play as well but he doesn't have his sister coming around on this board being the only id!ot defending him and thinking he's good. I figured you'd be gone since it's obvious that you're related to Brooke somehow and you only ever discuss him. If that's not the case then you can hop onto Swearinger's nuts if you feel this need to defend bad football players.

Pathetic! I'm sorry for you and the life you must have.

Not the same player or position. Actually kind of opposites.

Not the same player? Gee, you're right. You might have passed up a great career as a detective. Not the same position? Again, you're correct. The Will, which Connor played, is the position that is supposed to get all the sacks. Opposites? Only that they play on opposite sides of the D.

Brooks Reed could miss start of Falcons' OTAs

Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Brooks Reed suffered a "minor" groin injury, according to multiple sources, but the injury could keep Reed sidelined for the start of organized team activities next week.

Reed apparently injured his groin during the team's recent voluntary minicamp. The Falcons are set to begin their first OTA practice Tuesday.

Reed, formerly with the Houston Texans, signed a five-year, $22 million contract with the Falcons in March. He is known as a strong run defender but is expected to at least contribute to the pass rush...

He's a groin boy.

if hes so good in run def why did he not contain Lynch and let Lynch pretty much out run him
