Blake Bortles

Looks to me like he had a very Fitzpatrick type of day. Team won despite him. Good running by Dennard and Storm. Big plays by WR in taking that short route to the house.

S'okay. For the rookies it's all about their development. He still looks strong in the pocket, after a brutal day. If he can maintain he may turn into a decent QB.

But I agree. Not looking like a top 5 pick any more than Bridgewater & Manziel look like 1st rounders.

Lol, do you even watch NFL football? Teddy has had one bad game, so far in his NFL career. And Manziel hasnt even played. So how in the hell can you even say that they are not performing to their draft position?

You got me. I don't watch the games... Or follow any NFL players

Cleveland Passing
C/ATT	YDS	AVG	TD	INT	SACKS	QBR	RTG
B. Hoyer	16/41	215	5.2	0	1	3-18	7.8	46.3

Jacksonville Passing

B. Bortles	17/31	159	5.1	1	3	2-8	9.0	40.3

Hoyer nipped him in Passer Rating but Bortles won in QBR and got the W.

Putting Bridgewater and Bortles rookie year in perspective, the QB on the TV right now going for the all time record of the most TD passes ever, Peyton Manning, led the league in INTs with 28 his rookie year.

But he also threw for 26 tds and nearly 4,000 yrds, but I get your point.

He also wanted to play for the Texans a couple of seasons ago, however Bob and company decided to stay loyal to their man in Matt Schaub instead of signing Manning. Imagine how good the Texans would be right now with Peyton? Super Bowl favorites no doubt. Makes a Texans fan want to throw up in the mouth a little.

Thanks for that, K.

Bortles:
6GP, 132/208, 63.5%, 1,384 Yards, 6 TD, 12 NT, 191 Rushing Yards, 1 TD, 3 Fumbles

Fitz:
8GP, 144/227, 63.4%, 1,757 Yards, 9 TD, 7 INT, 2 Fumbles, 91 Rushing Yards, 1 TD, 2 Fumbles

So Fitz and Bortles are pretty much the same QB? Minus the whole 4-4 and 1-5 team records.

Besides completion percentage and TDs from rushing, what exactly is similar?

I think Bortles can be a good QB, but Teddy was far and away my favorite QB in that class.

I think not trading up one spot is going to haunt us more than not taking Bortles at #1. JMO.

They're still rookies though...lots of time for this guys to write their story.

then Minnesota killed it.

1a. Anthony Barr
1b. Teddy Bridgewater

vs Texans

1a. JaDeveon Clowney
2b. Xavier Su'a-Filo

:hankpalm:

Like I said during draft season, Bortles was my favorite QB in this class and I would have taken him #1 if I were the Texans.

But he needs an entire year on the bench. The Jags tried, but couldn't hold their water. Hopefully they don't ruin him. The kid has all the tools, he's just not there mentally yet.

I don't see Bortles having a problem moving past mistakes. From everything I saw -- and I saw a lot -- he's got a pretty rock solid mental makeup. Really like him.

Oh, I hope they ruin him.

This can't apply to Savage?

I thought Mettenberger looked better than I thought he would yesterday. Early in my evaluation, he was one of five QBs I felt we "had" to get in this draft. Savage was not one of them. I liked him for what he was, I just thought there were better options with the combination of size, offensive style, production, & athleticism.

Still, after seeing Mett makes me feel better about Tom Savage, since OB obviously felt that good about Savage to take him ahead of Mettenberger. At least that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.

I'm on record as saying that from the very start. Unless he has shown tremendous growth since his last college game, Savage is nowhere near ready to play.

And this is why in my opinion we don't take a QB next year b/c of Savage. Mallett being here to relieve Fitz in case of injury or he totally screws the pooch.

Back to topic on Bortles, Jags have no identity/presence to allow for a rookie QB to step in and lead. He is going to find himself pressing to make things happen because the team is playing from behind frequently (so far).

I think Bortles' biggest challenge is going to be "everyone" telling him it's not his fault. For the most part it isn't, but he is the QB & right or wrong, it's his fault.

I think David Carr's biggest problem is that he eventually started believing it wasn't his fault & stopped trying to get better. When something went wrong, internally there was an excuse that he couldn't do anything about & it was just the way it was. Of course, this is my own psychoanalysis of a person I've never had a conversation with.

Like I said, he's got to ignore everyone telling him it's not his fault & find a way to get better. As the leader, the field general, the team is an extension of him. so if it's the OL, the receivers, or the RB's blitz pick-up..... he's got to own it & fix it.

I kind of understand where you driving this bus and yes he can own up to the offensive woes and the team to an extent. But at the end of the day he can't make that RG pick up his block nor the receiver catch the ball that hit his hands. He's in a tough spot but as a professional he should try to get better and limit his mistakes. The Jags put him out there so.....

His worst performance of the season -- should've had 5/6 INTs -- and the end of the beginning for Bortles, imo.

I think the Weeden-Boys are vulnerable in London. And I think Blake reassesses during their BYE week and starts making better decisions. They're beginning to get some semblance of balance in that offense.

Getting read to watch BB tear up that Cowboy's D. See if Romo can keep up.

That's how you get your receiver killed. Bortles completely ignoring the wheel route mismatch to get his receiver killed in double coverage. This guy looks worse every week.

A little down time before catching the tube. This is an event that I recommend highly. It was almost a Super Bowl atmosphere.\

I actually kinds like the Jags over the Cowboys today. :rake:

And this is why I have't gambled in 25+ years.

I wasn't expecting this game to be close. Dallas was coming off back-to-back losses, in desperate need of a win, playing a bad Jaguars team and getting Tony Romo back for the game. There were too many reasons for Dallas to be focused this week.

I wonder why the nfl like stuffed all our afc games, in the 2nd half of the season lol, no more nfc games we went a, wooping 1-3 vs nfc this, year lol same has 4 years ago all we beat was, the redskins, lol

I saw that too. He got that guy decapitated. Horrible read and throw.

I was talking with a co-worker yesterday and he was expressing how good Bortles was going to be based on what he saw. I am of the opposite opinion. I don't think the casual fan realizes that completing a pass isn't the same as completing the correct pass.

Where were you guys with before the draft?

Seemed like Texian and I were the only ones that weren't listening to the crap that was suggesting that he wasn't worthy of a #1 pick for our injured Lawrence Taylor of 2014.

Yes, he is going to be good. Really good most likely, and not only did we pass on him, but we let another team in our division get him.

That stink from Smithiak still exists as long as Smith is still here unfortunately.

I'm glad THEY got him. I'm satisfied with Clowney.

What did you friend see he found impressive? I was in the same thought as you were. I saw nothing exceptional. He doesn't make good reads, doesn't go through progressions well, has decent arm strength but nothing exceptional there and didn't put good touch on the ball. So did your friend just find it impressive he can throw a football?

I really don't know. He can't quantify his praise, so I just nod along when he talks football.
