Agreed Ayers, Jones should move up. Gabbert is a commodity. I think he should have refined his game one more year but who can blame him once Luck pulled out. I do like his upside more than Locker or Newton so its hard to gauge. So for now move Prince down to #8 & just slide the others up one slot?

1. Nick Fairley, Auburn, (Jr.), 6-4, 298
2. Patrick Peterson, DB, LSU - 6'1 - 222
3. A.J. Green, WR, Georgia - 6'4 - 212
4. Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson - 6'4 - 280
5. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri, (Jr.), 6-5 235
6. Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama - 6'3 - 306
7. Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina - 6'5 - 268
8. Prince Amukamara, DB, Nebraska - 6'1 - 205

I like it! :bravo:

You know ... I think I'd take the Nevada QB who's name I can't say in the 5th before I'd take Locker or Newton in the 1st or 2nd .

Cam Newton has declared for the draft

just saw that on espn. mentioned he was ranked as the #3 QB prospect for 2011 draft.

#1 Gabbert
#2 Locker
#3 Newton
#4 Mallett

tweaked it a bit, dropped Gabbert two spots & moved Dareus/Quinn up one respectively. Now how does it look (two DT's in the top 5 & almost 2 DE's)?

1. Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn, (Jr.), 6-4, 298
2. Patrick Peterson, DB, LSU - 6'1 - 222

I saw one game of his playing Centre. TERRIBLE Snapper of the ball.

I would pass it off as Mike's first year playing at Center.
I don't think he's first round material at either G or C anyway.

I only watch a couple Steelers game this year.
His brother Maurkice played a little better than I expected.
I had him in the mid 20s.
I never thought he would be a Pro-Bowl selection in his first year.
Against the Ravens, he got bowled over by Suggs, got completely shoved back on his butt into the backfield.
(Wish I know how to make a vid so I can replace the Myers/Jenkins hoopla, lol)

Dontay Moch OLB Nevada.... thoughts on him shooting up the boards? A potential selection for us at #11!?

I liked him since last year, but have not seen him this year but once in the bowl game a few days ago.
Can't grade him yet.

I like Kaepernick also since last year.
An interesting prospect in the 6th round.
He will fit right in with Schaub, giving that long-winded motion :)
He's been working on it (as did Schaub) and has shortened it more than Schaub (I think).
But he has an excuse: He's 93-mph fastball pitcher.

IMO:

Ayers should be alot higher. Teens for sure.
Gabbert too high. But we have had this conversation before. What is so special about him? Or is he just the flavor of the month now that Luck went back to school? Help me out here guys?
I still like Prince top 8.
I dont think Fairley is #1, but I am fine with him there.
With Blackmon gone, I think Julio Jones should be around 15.
I would be ok with sliding Rudolph up a couple spots.
Also I am bleh on Newton. But I am indifferent because I know some sucker will draft him top 10.

Saw Gabbert once against Nebraska.
Not impressed as a first rounder at this moment.

I don't know where to put Ayers, but if we can trade back to draft him and his teammate Moore, I wouldn't mind it at all.
(Haven't seen enough of them though.)

Whichever team that drafts Mallett would better give him room to step up in the pocket.
It's not his fault that he's too tall.
I don't see him as a bust like Jamarcus Russell, but his height can be a disadvantage for him at times.

I would drop Harris a spot or 2. I like Ayers and Julio better at #16.

I think prince is too high at 8 I can see him sliding into the teens. ayers and miller should be rated about the same, one at 15, the other 16. drop mallet down. miller is the better rusher, but ayers seems a little stiffer against the run.

I'm tracking with you on that.

I could see Prince sliding but also hanging in top 10, tough call. now we know Ayers is coming out we can move him higher, your right, should be very close to Miller, w/Von getting slight edge because he is a legit pass rusher.

I think all 3 qb's need to be dropped.

thats a difficult request, even if your right. keeping Locker late, much disagreement about Mallett. Saw holes in Cams game Monday, but he should still hold interest for teams needing QB help.

I have Watt and Mallett at #11,12

Julio Jones at #13

Paea is in my next grouping.

Watt up. Jones stock rising (Blackmon staying) legit #2 WR. Paea is the top NT prospect in draft. Also moved top LT prospect into discussion Solder who he getting lots of love with those measreables, franchise position.

This is the group from which the Texans will select 9-12 all could happen?

9. J.J. Watt, DE/DT, Wisconsin - 6'6 - 290
10. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama - 6'4 - 220

seems reasonable, maybe Newton slips a little bit? there are a couple other prospects who's stock is rising like Georgia OLB Justin Houston, Missouri DE/OLB Aldon Smith, & Illinois DT Corey Liuget DT that we need to start looking at & into top 32 overall prospects declared for 2011 NFL draft.

In another important matter, feel we should bump Fairley down one notch from #1 to #2 & move Da'Quan Bowers up to the #1 position. What do you guys think about that?

Yeah, I think Bowers should probably be #1...

And Tyron Smith is going to be moving up the boards

I dont like Smith that much, he's built like a greek god. But weighs only 280-285 Lbs. That's really light for a tackle. He may show up at the Combine weighing more and still have his athletcism. Houston is sombody the Texans should look at if they trade down. Houston reminds me alot of Terrell Suggs. He would be a steal at this point in the draft.

Hopefully the Texans will be able to trade down and draft Houston late in the 1st and Arron Williams in the 2nd. Then add more talent with the picks from the trade down. Or use those extra picks to trade back into the bottom of the 2nd and take Ellis or Fua late in the 2nd.

This takes thinking outside the box. I' m not sure Smithiak are capable of doing this. Their drafting track record says they cant. Maybe when it's the Texans time to draft in the 1st 3 rds. Kunbiak will be at home recovering from a 2nd sleep apnea surgery and Smith will be in the bathroom. That way Phillips will be able to draft the players he needs to rebuild the defense.

thinking same thing. done!

That seem about right for those 2 players.

Dont sleep on Anthony Costanzo.

He's going to make some team picking at the bottom of the 1st rd very happy.

(Colts,Bears,Steelers ect...)

#20 Newton
#21 Aldon Smith
#22 Harris

one of the late entry's has caught my attention, need to ask if anyone here is familiar with Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois - 6-3 - 295? He was unblock-able against Baylor in Texas Bowl (also where fell in love with RB Mikel LeShoure game).

Here is an analysis per Rob Rang of NFLDS:

Pass rush: Tough for many college interior linemen to handle one-on-one in pass protection. Quick enough to beat lesser linemen off the snap at three-tech, uses his hands to free himself from block when there is enough space to do so. Gets his man on skates or pushes through a block (or double) to the quarterback to get pressure. Also strong and quick enough to play on the nose in obvious passing situations. Recovers from strong punch to run through a gap immediately. Does not have elite closing speed, but his hustle and ability to stay low make him difficult to escape within or outside the pocket.

Run defense: Stout defender who plays with a strong base. Penetrates into the backfield with quickness. Lines up at three and five-technique spots. Capable of stack-shed inside or outside. Gets past reach blocks on inside runs with quick feet and strength to keep blocker on his shoulder. Usually keeps his head up to find the ball. Lacks acceleration to keep outside containment as a five-technique. Not consistent defeating cut blocks with his hands.

Explosion: Not elite in his first step, but has enough to be a pass rush and penetrating run-stopper inside. Ballcarriers feel every bit of his strength when he tackles them, and blockers are bruised up with his punching and swiping throughout the game.

Strength: His ability to play multiple positions not only comes from his quick feet, but also his strength. Lands a big punch into the chest of his man, swipes with aggression to move the blocker aside. Uses his low center of gravity to his advantage, getting leverage to stack one-on-one and shed to either direction when playing two-gap at nose tackle. Senses zone block, uses blocker's inertia against him with a strong push to get into the backfield. Usually anchors well against single and double blocks, but can get moved by NFL-caliber linemen.

Tackling: Strong upper body, hustle, and good length make him an excellent tackler. Engulfs running backs in the backfield when able to penetrate. Built low to the ground, displays excellent change of direction ability to stay in front of backs cutting against the grain. Hustles 10-15 yards downfield to make or help on tackles. Adds himself to piles when able. Lacks elite closing speed to chase down backs from behind. Tends to run out of steam when playing a lot at the end of games.

Intangibles: Coaches say Liuget is a leader in the locker and meetings rooms. Chose Illinois over southern schools because of head coach Ron Zook. Wished to transfer after two years in Champaign due to home sickness; mother said he would not be welcome home if he transferred.

The red shows players i think would draw the Texans interest and might be there . Having watched the Steelers and Packers , I'm thinking the ideal size for an OLB in a 3-4 is 6'2 or so . If I had my choice I'd take 6'1 before 6'5 . Also the NG needs short , stocky legs and a long thick torso . Why ... cause you bend at the waist and like the 6'2 OLB , low man wins .

So if we get our big board correct we can do something similar to what Honoring Earl 34 suggests (nice job, by the way) taking prospects in order rated straight off Big Board -

1. Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama - 6'3 - 306
2. Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina - 6'5 - 268
3. Prince Amukamara, DB, Nebraska - 6'1 - 205
4. J.J. Watts, DE/DT, Wisconsin - 6'6 - 290
5. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama - 6'4 - 220
6. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State - 6'1 - 311
7. Von Miller, DE, Texas A&M - 6'3 - 243
8. Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA - 6'4 - 255
9. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami - 5'11 - 195
10.Aldon Smith, DE/OLB Missouri - 6-5 - 265
11.Justin Houston, LB Georgia - 6-3 - 260

So off that list , I think the players in blue are a better fit or higher priority . If Smith's 6'5 then he's a tweener IMO . Same thing with Quinn .

4. A.J. Green, WR, Georgia - 6'4 - 212
5. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri, (Jr.), 6-5 235

Hey guys and gals, I haven't posted in this thread yet but I've been following it.

I just thought I would post my top 32 in here to see how it compares to the board consensus and hopefully generate some discussion.

This isn't so much how I would rank the players based on talent as much as it is what I think their perceived value is to the 32 NFL teams (i.e. I don't think Mallett is the 9th best player in the draft but I do think he will be the first QB drafted).

1.A.J. Green – WR, Georgia
2.Patrick Peterson – CB, LSU
3.Nick Fairley – DT, Auburn
4.Da'Quan Bowers – DE, Clemson
5.Marcell Dareus – DT/DE, Alabama
6.Robert Quinn – DE/OLB, North Carolina
7.Prince Amukamara – CB, Nebraska
8.Cameron Jordan – DE, California
9.Ryan Mallett – QB, Arkansas
10.Derek Sherrod – OT, Mississippi St
11.Stephen Paea – DT, Oregon St
12.J.J. Watt – DE, Wisconsin
13.Cameron Newton – QB, Auburn
14.Julio Jones – WR, Alabama
15.Cameron Heyward – DT/DE, Ohio St
16.Adrian Clayborn – DE, Iowa
17.Mark Ingram – HB, Alabama
18.Anthony Costanzo – OT, Boston College
19.Bruce Carter – OLB, North Carolina

our top 20 does not include Cam Newton or Ryan Mallet. another Cam, Hayward you have real high, along with Castonzo & Carter. those three standout to me as end of first rd. early 2nd prospects. the rest looks pretty good, we switched Bowers to #1 & Fairley #2. really could use your input & everybody's help to finish, this is our 2nd evolution so expect a third maybe a fourth before all the dust is settled. :)

No way Bruce Carter goes at #19 with a torn ACL.

Ayers should be higher.

Overall good job

I would put this big board up against the Texans big board.

It's probably better than the Texans big board. LOL

I'm still waiting for more members to vote Newton or Mallett, recent drafts do have some history of QB's falling, last year Clausen, but then Denver trades up for Tebow, hence McDaniels is fired. I would like a clear objective discussion of each players merits & where they should fall.
