Hall of Fame
* followed bpa
* prioritized team needs
* texans trade sage for pick & move up
* included top 5 picks of 2nd rd.
* texans complete draft picks
* Ourlads player rating in bold print

1. Miami Dolphins - Chris Long, Virginia 6033 274 DE 9.72
Parcells will low ball Jake right out of accepting his offer thus sliding down to Atlanta. Chris is Parcells target all along. CL will be the new face of the Dophins & defensive force @ OLB sometimes END depending on Jason Taylors dancing career. If a deal cannot be reached prior to draft day all bets are off, there still could be some kind of trade, question is can it get done in 10 minutes?

2 St.Louis Rams - Vernon Gholston, Ohio State 6030 266 DE/OLB 9.59
RDE opposite LDE Leonard Little, leaving last years 1st pick Adam Carricker inside @ DT. Rams want a pass rush & Vernon gives them a Merriman type atheltic beast off the edge.

3 Atlanta Falcons - Jake Long, Michigan 6070 313 OT 9.69
Falcons fortunes have turned as they address offensive line with T Jake Long. represents a clean departure from the past, very solid new face to the franchise you can start immediately, improving pass protection for their next QB (2nd rd.) Joe Flacco.

4 Oakland Raiders - Sedric Ellis, USC 6004 309 DT 9.62
despite ourlads rankings the edge @ DT goes to Ellis because of health realted injurys. Sedric been a healthy, productive player for the USC Trojans. Can collapse the pocket with tremendous bull rush ala retired tackle Warren Sapp. While the Raiders spent a ton of money in free agency on ends the middle remains a weakness, not anymore with baby Sapp.

5 Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady, Boise State 6061 309 OT 9.42
Should suck it up just like Arizona did last draft taking Levi Brown #5 over Adrian Peterson. Ryan for whatever your reasons is one of the more undervalued talents in this draft class. He has ideal LT measueables, almost 37" arm length, 6061 309 moves like a cat, destroys like the Hulk, I beleive it has alot to do with Bose States system & the fact not many people watched him play, easily the best tackle in the draft.

6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden, Arkansas 6012 211 9.70
Can't pass on McFadden or let him fall to divisional foe New England, how would that work out trying to stop that offense with Brady, Moss & McFadden? seems like a good fit for the Big Apple, keep your nose clean D-MAC off the field & handle buisness, should help whoever is their QB.

7 New England Patriots - .Branden Albert, Virginia 6055 309 OT 9.11
Not a bad consolation pick for Billicheat, address Brady long term protection makes them more athletic & able to stay fresh deep into the playoffs for another title run.

8 Baltimore Ravens - Matt Ryan, Boston College 6046 228, QB 9.41
could go cb if Ryan is off the board, if he slides as I expect, they would jump on him. Steve McNair is retireing & Kyler Boller experiment is getting old, either case they NEED to address QB with franchise talent, they don't have to throw him in there (Boller) so he has some mentoring time to develop but not much. I'm also hearing they love him..

9 Cincinnati Bengals - Glenn Dorsey, LSU 6014 297 DT 9.72
Bengals want to address their interior defense well here you go just the break they'll be hoping for. The only reason why Glenn slides this far is injury concens/history making this a great value for a great player who fills a great need.

10 New Orleans Saints - Leodis McKelvin, Troy 5102 190 CB 9.34
Branden Albert could go here then move Brown back to his more natural RT position, but how can they pass of the top cb in this draft when they need secondary help? physical, cover corner would fit in as starter day one beating out free agent aquistion Randall Gay, thus giving them excellent depth at a position that was formerly a weakness.

11 Buffalo Bills - Devin Thomas, Michigan State 6017 216, WR 9.18
first glance looks like a reach trying to address need but watching tape he really looks like an elite #1 NFL WR. highest rated in draft at his position, good soft hands, speed, size everything you look for filling roster spot opposite Lee Evans.

12 Denver Broncos - Jonathan Stewart, Oregon 5102 235 RB 9.19
Stew gives them the thunder to Selvin Youngs lightning, he is a one cut & gone zbs downhill runner with franchise written all over his thick body. Can't quite bite on Chris Williams this high & Stewart just fits what Denver likes to run.

13 Carolina Panthers - Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh 6066 322 OT 9.12
Been calling this pick for awhile, one of the few I really feel locked in on. very physical prototypical mauler LT with alot of upside I think they really like him alot if hes still available.

14 Chicago Bears - Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois 5101 225 RB 9.37
with elite physical run blocking tackles taken (Otah/Clady) they keep RM home. I'm not crazy about his running style slashing, bobbing & weaving but does it with strength & power something Benson lacked & he was the 4th overall pick.

15 Detroit Lions - Dominack Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee St. 6014 184 CB/FS 9.33
Matt Millien track record aside (intriqued by talented prospects w/question marks) in this case (medical-one kidney) the Cromartie blood lines run strong, there is no doubt for once, if given medical clearence, this kid will be a terrific playmaker @ CB too good to pass up.

16 Arizona Cardinals - Derrick Harvey, Florida 6045 271 RDE 9.29
The Cardinals don't have a pass rush its non-existant, there are alot of other directions/needs to address as well LT, CB, RB but Harvey falling to them here would be tempting. He would be a great fit for the system.

17 Houston Texans- Chris Williams, Vanderbuilt 6060 315 OT 9.17
Texans swap picks with Vikings for Sage Rosenfels & 3rd rd. pick #73 address long standing need for a franchise LT who best fits Gibbs ZBS.

18 Minnesota Vikings - Phillip Merling, Clemson 6042 276 DE 9.22
with Harvey off the board Vikings can afford to trade down to aquire the best available DE, could take Calais Campbell if Merling does not get medical clearence. Rosenfels adds expereince in the back-up QB role.

19 Philadelphia Eagles - Gosder Cherilus, Boston College 6065 313 OT 8.97
may seem ealry but this is a need pick their tackles are not getting any younger & Gosder has great measureables with nasty attitude, should be a natural fit for Philly.

20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DeSean Jackson, California 5096 169 WR/KR 9.09
Joey Galloway clone like smaller/speed vertical playmaker with return skills. less crazy about this pick than any but I've watched him for a couple years & he does have elite playmaking skills, if not for injurys his value would be higher.

21 Washington Redskins - Keith Rivers, USC 6022 241 OLB 9.49
will Rivers fall this far? I have no idea but it would tempt Zorn & company to select bpa over reaching for a WR with questionable character/work ethic.

22 Dallas Cowboys - Mike Jenkins, South Florida 5102 197 CB/KR 9.20warming up to Mike as a possiblity for the Texans. great package of skills for the position, speed, smooth in transition, playmaking skills will need to step up his mental approach but put that Cowboy uniform on him & I think that will be all he needs for attitude adjustment.

23 Pittsburgh Steelers - James Hardy, Indiana 6053 217 WR 8.90
with all the tackles off the board would they reach for one or a guard here? maybe RB like Felix Jones or try & trade out. so with the 23rd pick went with a big target WR in Plaxico Burress mold. Hardy would give them a nice group of weapons for big Ben along with Santonio Holmes, Hines Ward & TE Heath Miller.

24 Tennessee Titans - Limas Sweed, Texas 6037 215 WR 8.93
re-united & it feels so good....sorry. much to Texans chagrin everywhere the UT connection continues this time to cover-up inadequacy of recievers not great or standout in any one area of his game but consistant & reliable, good size with enough speed to create seperation.

25 Seattle Seahawks - Dustin Keller, Purdue 6020 242 TE 8.29
reaching here but he could sneak into the end of the 1st rd. & given the Seahawks needs this could happen. very athletic, moves well in space & creates seperation. good hands in the Dallas Clark mold.

26 Jacksonville Jaguars - Calais Campbell, Miami 6076 290 DT 8.86
thats right he moves inside to take over Marcus Stroud vacant position. has the size & frame will need to get stronger. Kentwan Balmer also option just not graded as high..

27 San Diego Chargers - Aqib Talib, Kansas 6006 202 CB 9.08
great value, can't see him sliding as far as some feel measureables too compelling this gives San Diego one of the better secondarys in the NFL with depth & talent.

28 Dallas Cowboys - Felix Jones, Arkansas 5101 207 RB 8.94adds speed to thunder with razorback alum Jerry Jones calling the shots. this completes both offseason needs & player loss via free agency.

29 San Francisco 49ers - Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma 6036 224 WR 9.13
character issues, work ethic speed questions will be answeared once drafted & paid. there is timed speed and actuall game time speed, I dont seem to remember speed being an issue @ Oklahoma. will be out to prove everyone wrong, Kelly is a true #1 & by slipping this far helps buffer the pain of picking so late.

30 Green Bay Packers - Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech 5096 189 CB 8.80
could also take a look at Justin King who has better speed but favor Flowers physical play & run support/toughness.

31 New England Patriots - No Pick - Spygate

32 New York Giants - Kenny Phillips, Miami 6022 212 FS 9.10GM Jerry Reese has proven he's a good evaluator of talent, doesn't take a genius to know getting Kenny Phillips this late is a steal. has the ability to come in as rookie & start for Super Bowl Champions with the aging Sammy Knight mentoring.

33 Miami Dolphins - Sam Baker, USC 6045 309 OT 8.60
Most NFL ready to start of remaining tackles coming from Pro style system/coaching has the mental toughness to withstand pressure should be your starting LT opening day, which is what the Dolphins have to have are players ready to step up to the challenge & start.

34 St. Louis Rams - Jarod Mayo, Tennessee 6012 242 MLB 8.89
defensive draft for the Rams, Mayo shores up the middle, the most physically intimidating run plugger of the mlb's, great value high productivity pick similar to the DeMeco Ryans selection by the Texans in 06.

35 Atlanta Falcons - Joe Flacco, Delaware 6063 236 QB 8.75
as you probably noticed Brian Brohm is still on the board, but I think they want to distance themselves from former coach Bobby Petrino plus Joe Flacco reminds them of another former Falcon, now Texan, Matt Schaub. feel in love with his game during Senior Bowl weekend, displayed every throw & at his Pro Day as well, reads through his progressions, presence standing in the pocket with surprising mobility to move or throw on the run. when all is said & done could be the best QB to come out of this class. if the Falcons choose to wait on QB they still have two more 2nd rd. picks.

36 Kansas City Chiefs - Antoine Cason, 6002 191 CB 9.09
Good size, productive cover "2" corner adds value with return skills. four year starter but still showed improvement each year, has 1st rd. talent depends on teams interview/workout good value pick addressing priority need.

73 Houston Texans (aquired from Minnesota for Sage Rosenfels) - Matt Forte, 6013 217 RB 7.93
difficult to project who will be available in the 3rd rd. but one thing for sure the Texans stand a better chance @ getting a top tier system fit rb here in Forte than standing pat @ #79 I don't see the value here to take a cb unless someone unexpected falls, so I'd wait to use the latter pick on a cb. Matt is a tough inside runner with good footwork & cut-back ability, follows blocks & reads lanes well plus he is productive & durable.

79 Houston Texans - Antwaun Molden, Eastern Kentucky 6006 198 CB 7.84
bookend cb to pair with Bennett, excellent size, speed (4.43) can play press cover & will have the luxury to develop with free agent aquisition Jacques Reeves, starting opening day when Dunta Robinson comes back I beleive he'll work into the line-up in nickle situations, eventually becoming the Texans starting FS. barring injurys the Texans will be loaded in the secondary & still have a plethora of safety's - CC Brown (signed to extension) Will Demps (re-signed) Nick Ferguson (free agent signing) Glenn Earl (last year under contract) Brandon Harrison (07 5th rd. pick) & Brandon Mitchell (signed reserve/future contract).

118 Houston Texans - Bruce Davis, UCLA 6025 252 6.99 DE/OLB 6.99
local kid (League City) with great motor, high character & instinctive pass rushing skills. his natural position is DE but because of size I see alot of scouting services project him to OLB, but this is not neccesarily the case with the Texans who need at least a situational speed pass rushing DE opposite Mario Williams, in other words in the Texans scheme it works. he also adds value because he could play OLB as well depending on how quickly his skills progress & demand, grows to have his playmaking ability on the field every down..

151 Houston Texans - Drew Radovich, USC 6050 301 OG 5.45Another ZBS OL prospect for Gibbs to develop. already well coached, excellent use of hands, footwork, good base, balance & would compete for playing time in rotational role/depth (have not resigned Weary yet). plays with attitude & aggression something Gibbs covets.

183 Houston Texans - Chris Meyers, Miami 6040 300 C 5.52
aquired via trade with Denver who now will be selecting #183. already with three years of NFL expereince in ZBS. versatile can play both guard & center but will come into camp as the favorite to the Houston Texans starting center, thats excellent value for a 6th rd. pick. still young & developing should only get better with Gibbs coaching & if you haven't noticed this mock draft is heavily weighted on the offensive line side of the ball. I think this is important because Kubiak talked Gibbs out of retirement for a reason, to create & build his signature OL for the future of the Houston Texans franchise.

223 Houston Texans - Derrick Gray, Texas Southern 6044 266 DE/DT rated #28th DE prospect by NFL DRAFT SCOUT
went with developmental DL to develop from local Texas Southern has potential to play LDE reseerve role & special teams 2nd team All-SWAC, productive with 76 tackles, 24.5 for loss, 9.5 sacks & three forced fumbles. Large frame with long arms to add weight. matched up well against larger tackles which I think bodes well for the NFL & could swing inside & play some tackle if needed thus adding value to his position. real nice kid in person, engaged to be married so seems well grounded & serious about taking care of buisness.

I don't understand trading up one spot to get Chris Williams...

Would this trade occur while the Vikings were on the clock?

And do we know that the Vikings would draft the guy ?

nice i like it a lot. if only we could get that trade to happen.
also bruce davis might not be there that late. same with radovich.
and how about tommy blake late? ive mentioned this before but the guy is LOADED with talent hes jsut messed up emotionally. worth a 6th or 7th round risk

I like the concept, but I think the Texans will have to move father up that #17 to get Williams.
Anybody heard anything about Williams having a back problem ?

Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie will be tried on four charges, including domestic battery, in a Miami-Dade County Court on June 2.
He previously pled not guilty. Since McKinnie has been arrested four times as an NFL player, he is in danger of being suspended to open the season.

yea.. they would.

It does say we get a 3rd rounder. Or did he just change that like a minute ago?

It does say we get a 3rd rounder. Or did he just change that like a minute ago?

the Texans aquire the Vikings 3rd pick #73 in addition to moving up to the 17th pick, which I've seen alot of Mock Drafts Minnesota taking Williams. being so close I'd make the trade to secure our LT, adding a quality back like Forte would be a bonus. I'm not sure if this fullfills the Texans wish to get a 2nd rd. pick for Sage but I felt its close enough to get it done. also with McNair retireing that adds value to all experienced QB's who are ready to start now.

Geat mock, it was very well thought out & we would be very lucky to have things fall this way.

The one guy that I want in the 3rd or 4th rd. is B. Johnston. You don't seem to be as high on him as I am. Where do you se him getting picked?

I would not spend a 3rd rd. pick on Johnston but it seems he is an ascending player so to be realistic I went with Davis becuase he has a better chance of slipping through the cracks as it where & still be on the board by the time the Texans pick in the 4th rd. plus I've watched him play for a couple years in the Pac 10 & I can still remember the year before last when he helped ruin the Trojans title run by sacking Booty & I can't remember the name of the other QB but it was impressive. also he projects to outside linebacker something the Texans could use then line him up in a three point stance as situational pass rusher, he seems to do very well against bigger tackles.

great mock draft beer lover, i like the matt forte pick in the 3rd

as for glen dorsey i keep hearing he's injury prone, but didnt he only have just one injury???? an injury that he fully recovered from???

as for the ravens taking matt ryan, imo i think they would pick leodis if he's there, they might want to give troy smith a shot, the nfl says he's too short but remember they have cam cameron as their offensive coach who happened to have worked with drew brees (same height as troy smith)

i keep hearing he's injury prone, but didnt he only have just one injury???? an injury that he fully recovered from???

He had a stress fracture in his leg in 2006 and a knee injury in 2007. On top of that, he had to wear metal braces on his legs until he was 3, but I'm not sure if there's much significance in that fact moving forward. Simply put, he has a history of injuries to his lower body, which can be a turn-off to teams who are going to be investing millions in him.

Johnston would be sick opposite Mario. His size and speed, oh man. Plus, he put up those stats playing in the 3-4 I believe. I would take him in the 3rd.

Thanks

I like Davis also, I remember that USC game too he was a stud that game.

I like Jeremy Thompson alot too.

He's a Smithiak kind of guy. Smart, hard working, can rush the passer.

oh thanxs for clearing that up for me

dang i never knew he had that many injuries

Yes. Anyday. I am not all that impressed by Molden, and I do think that there are runningbacks later. Johnston is a physical freeak.

have you watched him play? I've only seen his numbers from his Pro Day which were good, & know the Texans took a look at him other than that I would like to address needs first with players I'm more familar with. also think the Texans address needs by prioritizing positions, OT, RB, CB then DE with best available & the way this draft unfolds it should work to perfection :)

Tried to rep ya but i have to spread it around apparently.

Good work, I like the mocks and would be very happy if it happened this way. Our offense would be very close to complete with the additions of Williams and Forte. Can't fill all our needs in one draft so good job addressing our needs with good players.

Not as much as I would like to, but yes, I have seen him play. And those numbers are not just him training for his pro day. He is legit. Molden is the one whose numbers do not back up his play.

Antwaun Molden has been productive during his College career demonstrating improvement in level of his play each year. True he became a starter only this year but his numbers reflect he improved, doubling his tackle numbers in 06 from 36 to 70 in 07. that tells me he excells in run support, the Texans expect their cb's to provide good run support & is physical enough to finish the play. reportedly some 10 NFL teams set up interviews, that shows more than just a little interest in a 3rd pick. not sure if anyone knows this about him either but he was coached by Ted Ginn, Sr., father of Miami Dolphins receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. also an acomplished track guy so he's got speed & thats something I know for a fact the Texans value highly :showtime:

I'm not so sure I agree, Beerdude. Molden had to transfer to EKU because he wasn't good enough to get playing time at Toledo. His tackle numbers are ok, but the fact is that without knowing who else is on the team, you can't gauge whether or not that stat is deceiving. Remember, Dunta has over 80 tackles every year because there weren't many players in the front 7 to stuff the run. Furthermore, racking up a bunch of tackles at CB could be telling of him getting beaten by the WR, then simply taking him down. In four years of college, he had 3 INTs and 11 PBUs. That's very unimpressive. He has impeccable workout numbers, but I wish his play reflected that.

you could be right or could be he's a track guy who's developed into one heck of a cb in four years all played @ EKU :)

switch Johnston with davis @ 118 and you have a perfect draft. Not that I would hate Davis.

thanks, I thought about it I really did. however accuracy is important & I wanted to be as realistic as possible. Johnston as stated earlier is one of those ascending players, meaning his fair value has risen to the point where it doesn't make sense for Rick Smith to take him that high (3rd. rd.) he projects now to be off the board by the time the Texans pick in the 4th, but yeah if he isn't could be interesting.

Davis isn't being talked about (oops) a whole lot, UCLA had a down year, no memorable moments to speak of & because he is on the smaller size projects to a different position, so they say, OLB in the Pros. Well let me tell you he can at least be a situational edge rusher either from the end position or OLB makes no difference he flat out motors his way into the action, is bull strong & quick which would be the perfect compliment to Mario Williams. on a side note his dad Bruce Davis Sr. was with the Houston Oilers (1987-89) his dad also played for Al Davis Raiders & was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams, playing offensive tackle (1979-87).

nice mock.

I like the Williams pick alot, but I still don't seee the FO addressing RB in the draft when we signed a free agent (Brown), signed Green last off season, and have Taylor and Dayne for depth.

I could be wrong, but there are more pressing needs than RB in my opinion. This class may be deep in RB talent, but there will be greats coming out next year as well.

Beerlover, did you consider a different style RB? You seem to be high on bruisers/bangers. The guys who will be destined to run mostly between the tackles. What is holding you back from getting on board with a Ray Rice or Chris Johnson? Speed kills as you mentioned in another post. Rice may not outrun a team 80 yards down field, but he can go straight up the gut and he is quick enough to turn the corner consistently at this level.

regarding the Texans approach to this draft, I'm declaring this the "Alex Gibbs legacy draft" meaning he is coming back from retirement for a reason, to change the culture of the running game. the best way to do that is fix the offensive line & install a franchise RB. the best way to put his ZBS on a fast track is to aquire the necessary tools first, drill through repetition thus bringing continuity to make it difficult to stop. for assorted reasons the running game has never been successful here with the Texans, so extra emphasis will be placed this draft on the running game & its hard to imagine Ahman Green & Chris Brown, Chris Taylor & Darius Walker as long term solutions :)

I like speed guys, the two guys who have the most of it Jamaal Charles & Chris Johnson are gone in the 2nd rd.

I also like Kevin Smith & Ray Rice. if Forte is off the board I would consider either one.

Tashard Choice is a RB mentioned alot in mock drafts (3rd rd.) as a potential pick for the Texans, but his style does not fit Gibbs style. Alridge & Slaton may be options later fourth/fifth round

I would go with Rice or Smith over Forte. I do not like Choice at all for the Texans. He is so indecisive and he gets stopped at the LOS far too often for an NFL caliber RB.

I love Rice. Noticed him while checking out Brian Leonard a couple of years ago. Have been a fan every since. Still I would have a tough time picking him over Forte. Smith seems to shifty for ZBS IMO.

Plus doesnt Choice have durability concerns? We have enough of those type RB's.

Beerlover,

Nice post. I especially liked how you tied the trade Sage idea into your mock. But (as you would expect :D), I do have some differing opinions on a couple of your ideas. Here's how I see it shaking out.

1. Miami Dolphins - Chris Long, Virginia 6033 274 DE 9.72 I agree.

2 St.Louis Rams - Vernon Gholston, Ohio State 6030 266 DE/OLB 9.59 I agree.

3 Atlanta Falcons - Jake Long, Michigan 6070 313 OT 9.69
I disagree with this one. In my opinion, since the owner has the ultimate say in what player is selected & Atlanta's owner wants him, I believe that Atlanta will select Matt Ryan (QB).

4 Oakland Raiders - Sedric Ellis, USC 6004 309 DT 9.62 I agree.

5 Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady, Boise State 6061 309 OT 9.42
With Jake Long (OT) still on the board, KC will choose him over Clady.

6. New York Jets - Darren McFadden, Arkansas 6012 211 9.70 I agree.

7 New England Patriots - .Branden Albert, Virginia 6055 309 OT 9.11 While you make a solid argument for Albert, I believe that NE's need to add youth to their aging defense & the loss of Samuels will dictate that NE selects Leodis McKelvin (CB).

8 Baltimore Ravens - Matt Ryan, Boston College 6046 228, QB 9.41
With Ryan off the board, Baltimore will fill their next most pressing need at LT with Ryan Clady (OT).

9 Cincinnati Bengals - Glenn Dorsey, LSU 6014 297 DT 9.72
I agree.

10 New Orleans Saints - Leodis McKelvin, Troy 5102 190 CB 9.34
With McKelvin gone, They'll take Branden Albert (OT/OG). As you said, Albert "could go here then move Brown back to his more natural RT position."

11 Buffalo Bills - Devin Thomas, Michigan State 6017 216, WR 9.18
I agree.

12 Denver Broncos - Jonathan Stewart, Oregon 5102 235 RB 9.19
Here's where I could see a trade being made. Chicago Trades up 2 spots to snag Jeff Otah (OT) ahead of Carolina.

13 Carolina Panthers - Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh 6066 322 OT 9.12
Having missed out on Otah, Carolina now selects Rashard Mendenhall (RB).

14 Chicago Bears - Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois 5101 225 RB 9.37
Denver could now select Jonathan Stewart (RB) & would have picked up an extra 3rd round pick (#90) in the process. However, with the retirement of Lepsis, I wouldn't be surprised if they take Williams.

15 Detroit Lions - Dominack Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee St. 6014 184 CB/FS 9.33 I agree.

16 Arizona Cardinals - Derrick Harvey, Florida 6045 271 RDE 9.29
I agree.

17 Houston Texans- Chris Williams, Vanderbuilt 6060 315 OT 9.17
I don't see us needing to trade up to get Williams (assuming he wasn't taken by Denver). The Vikings have offered KC a 1st & 3rd (KC wants a 1st & 2nd) for Jared Allen & are currently the front runners. If this trade gets done, Kansas City would most likely take Phillip Merling (DE) to replace Allen.

18 Minnesota Vikings - Phillip Merling, Clemson 6042 276 DE 9.22
If Denver didn't take Chris Williams (OT), Houston takes him. Otherwise, we take Jonathan Stewart (RB).

19 Philadelphia Eagles - Gosder Cherilus, Boston College 6065 313 OT 8.97 I agree.

20 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DeSean Jackson, California 5096 169 WR/KR 9.09 I'll agree, but I'm a little torn between Jackson & Hardy going here.

21 Washington Redskins - Keith Rivers, USC 6022 241 OLB 9.49 I agree.

22 Dallas Cowboys - Mike Jenkins, South Florida 5102 197 CB/KR 9.20 Agreed.

23 Pittsburgh Steelers - James Hardy, Indiana 6053 217 WR 8.90 Agreed, but if Hardy is gone, I could see them going with Sweed.

24 Tennessee Titans - Limas Sweed, Texas 6037 215 WR 8.93
From the "Who Gives a Rip Department", I agree & could care less. :D

25 Seattle Seahawks - Dustin Keller, Purdue 6020 242 TE 8.29
I agree.

26 Jacksonville Jaguars - Calais Campbell, Miami 6076 290 DT 8.86
I agree.

27 San Diego Chargers - Aqib Talib, Kansas 6006 202 CB 9.08 Agreed.

28 Dallas Cowboys - Felix Jones, Arkansas 5101 207 RB 8.94 Agreed.

29 San Francisco 49ers - Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma 6036 224 WR 9.13 Agreed.

30 Green Bay Packers - Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech 5096 189 CB 8.80 Agreed.

31 New England Patriots - No Pick - Spygate

32 New York Giants - Kenny Phillips, Miami 6022 212 FS 9.10 Agreed.

33 Miami Dolphins - Sam Baker, USC 6045 309 OT 8.60 Agreed.

34 St. Louis Rams - Jarod Mayo, Tennessee 6012 242 MLB 8.89 Agreed.

35 Atlanta Falcons - Joe Flacco, Delaware 6063 236 QB 8.75 Having taken Matt Ryan in the 1st, they'll turn their attention to filling the CB position vacated by Hall. The Falcons select Tracy Porter (CB).

36 Kansas City Chiefs - Antoine Cason, 6002 191 CB 9.09 Agreed.

you can have all your picks as long as the Texans get #28 :D

I guess I'm looking at it from a financial perspective. They have spent money at RB two years running now, so I just don't see them spending their first round pick on the position again. I'm optimistic (fingers crossed) that platooning our current RB's will be enough to get us through until we do draft the franchise back as I agree with you that Brown/Green/Walker/Taylor are not the long term answer.

I dunno...I'd rather have a first rate line and an average back versus an average line and a superstud back...but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the good mock BL...much appreciated and enjoyed!

appreciate your response too :)

Its not out of the realm of possiblity the entire group of rb's on the Texans current roster are wiped clean in a couple years. therefore with the talent in this draft its imperative the Texans identify the best player available, if Stewarts there (which I doubt, according to my mock) he's a no brainer :headhurts:

here is the current RB ratings according to GBN - http://www.gbnreport.com/2007rbs.html

1 Darren McFadden 6-1, 211 4.33 Arkansas
faster than Peterson, no chance of Texans going after him
2 Jonathan Stewart 5-10, 235 4.48 Oregon
have him off the board (Texans 18th pick) competitive, hard worker, clean built like a Mac Truck that backs it up with physcial downhill contact, teams learned to attack his ankles otherwise very hard to tackle, just too strong & powerful
3 Rashard Mendenhall 5-10.5, 225 4.45 Illinois
not a pure zbs rb too much movement, instincts are to take it outside
4 Felix Jones 5-10, 207 4.47 Arkansas
fast, hard runner, trade back option, can also help on special teams
5 Jamaal Charles 5-11, 200 4.38 Texas
great speed, receiving, slot back Reggie Bush style playmaker
6 Ray Rice 5-8, 198 4.45 Rutgers
undersized but tough as nails
7 Matt Forte 6-1, 217 4.46 Tulane
this is the RB I targeted in the 3rd rd. doubt if he's there where the Texans currently select, thats part of the Sage Rosenfels trade
8 Chris Johnson 5-11, 197 4.24 East Carolina
electric speed, excellent runner but I have him rated higher & probably a 2nd rd. pick
9 Kevin Smith 6-1, 217 4.49 Central Florida
thought about Kevin, didn't think he was coming out at first but had second thoughts
10 Steve Slaton 5-9, 197 4.44 West Virginia
his stock has really fallen, could offer excellent value
11 Tashard Choice 5-10.5, 215 4.52 Georgia Tech
runs bigger than size, deleivers contact but prefers going outside
12 Mike Hart 5-9, 206 4.67 Michigan
compact, complete football player, steady as he goes
13 Allen Patrick 6-0.5, 198 4.55 Oklahoma
good fit for zbs, if Texans don't get the extra pick or who is available earlier rounds does not fit what they want, Allen Patrick could be a 4th, maybe 5th rd. draft pick
14 Cory Boyd 6-0.5, 213 4.51 S. Carolina
another downhill runner who fits zbs
15 Thomas Brown 5-8, 205 4.55 Georgia
quicker than fast, showed toughness coming back last year from broken collerbone but I just don't see a big upgrade here over what we've got in Darius Walker so this will be my cut-off for the rb's
16 Justin Forsett 5-8, 195 4.55 California
17 Chauncey Washington 5-11, 211 4.45 USC

Now you're not going to commit harakari if Stewart's on the board at 18 & the Texans use him as leverage to trade down & select Sam Baker, are you? :winky:

lets put it this way, I'm getting on a plane to Eugene & pick out #28 for the draft party @ Nicks. if & when that happens, I guess, if you consider becoming suddenly numb & drowning one's sorrows :beerfunnel:
