What are your thoughts on day 1?
(Edit: There was supposed to be a poll.)
Choice 1: Happy with Cushing, but not Barwin
Choice 2: Happy with Barwin, but not Cushing
Choice 3: Happy with both
Choice 4: Happy with neither
I'm happy.... the more I got to think about it, I'm very happy.
I was saying a while back, how every year we say we're going to improve our pass rush, and make one move to do so.
This year, we get a new DC, we pick up Antonio Smith, we pick up a SAM backer, and we pick up a speed rusher.... I think we'll have a very improved pass rush. I think we're getting serious about the pass rush.
PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSUE.
I'm happy. I think our D really improved today. Now lets get a DB and an RB tomorrow and I'll be bouncing off the walls.
I bet Barwin gets at least 4 sacks. Cushing will lead the team in TFL and possibly tackles too. Throw in 2 sacks and a couple fumble recoveries as well.
Miami got 2 good DB's and Pat White, i'm pretty excited to see what the Wildcat will do next year
Oh yeah, I'm also stoked on day 1 because Al Davis gave us Crabs.
Reports are that Crabtree had a real attitude at oakland as well as with other teams. He may have even said something negatively about oakland publicly too. That will piss a team off real fast. That's gotta be why oakland passed on him and maybe some other teams as well.i'm still dumbfounded. crabtree was arguably the best player in the draft, and al davis picks ... ummmmm i dont even remember the kid's name (the second rounder was even worse lol). 9'ers fans should send oakland a big thank you card - you just landed a kid that's going to work his butt off to be mentioned with jerry rice and has the talent to take the #1 spot in training camp. crab doesnt have the insane physical ability of andre johnson, but his game is very similar and probably has better hands.
I think we settled when we drafted Cushing..its an adequate settle because we needed another LB. I believe that once Jenkins was gone it was BPA time.
Barwin is baffling..didnt these guys trade Babin? so they draft another one... how many early round DEs does that make???? 5 or 6? and they have hit on two Williams and Bulman.
I am not buying the he was a steal and he has tremendous upside..sorry been burned before.

I think Crabtree is a great WR but the problem is his attitude/selfishness. He reminds me of Terrell Owens and I think he could end up being very similar, for better or worse.
"People don't realize the depth and commitment he has." Leach described Crabtree as "shy and reserved." In fact, he said, "There's no diva in him. He's too shy."
There was a report this week that Cleveland coach Eric Mangini was rubbed the wrong way by Crabtree's personality on a recent visit. Leach ripped into Mangini for not doing his homework on Crabtree. Leach said he never spoke to Mangini. "Let's see how those non-divas in Cleveland do (this season)."

I guess I'm in category 4 - happy with neither. I'm not really unhappy about them, but neither makes me say "I'm so glad that's the pick we made then". I don't think either was a reach, but I think we had better options at both picks.
In the first, I didn't think LB was as big of a need (I think I'm in the minority here) as other areas. I'd have much rather traded down, or if we were staying there, picked Oher. I don't believe that we couldn't have traded down, just that we might not have gotten full "value." Still, had we traded down (for anything), we would have had a bunch of good players to choose from. I'd take about any of the picks from #21-28 (except Harvin), and I don't think they'd be much less value than Cushing. Cushing is OK, but I thought we could have gotten more out of the pick.
In the 2nd, Barwin was again OK value, and I do think we needed a pass rushing specialist. But, we ended up getting somewhat of a "project" player that we will need to mold into whatever we want. I'd have preferred someone more established, and I think we might have been able to get that (minus the special teams abilities and flexibility to play other positions that Barwin brings) later on. We passed on both Unger (who I was sold on as a strong prospect in our ZBS) and William Moore (who seemed to be a good safety candidate), both in areas that were needs. Again, Barwin is OK, but, like Cushing, I wouldn't say I'm "happy" with the pick.
This guy ran a 4.47 at his pro day, he can backpedal faster than Babin could run. I'm curious who you would have liked us to draft at that spot.
