Anyone ever hear Carr dog the offensive line?

What a jerk!:crying:

Seriously, thats an SB move on his part... You know if they win you dont hear that, and he isnt going to say well maybe I shouldnt have been picked off so many times. Really bad move on his part, I wish they had another game so they could let him get hit a few times and make him apologize on the field

Well he's not trying very hard...

"That's as hopeless as I've felt in the pocket"

Knowing how Peyton generally handles things, I'd say that's EXACTLY what he was meaning. Maybe it didn't come across like that but if you watched the game, they DID have some blocking scheme problems. Pittsburgh was bringing alot more men than they had blockers. Peyton was running for his life most of the day. :twocents:

It was on Fox at halftime, and it doesn't matter whether it was 'scheme or the line'. He played like David Carr out there today.

Oh wait a sec . . .

Did somebody say at one time that even Peyton Manning would suck behind this offensive line?

But like I said, Manning needed to man up and shut up. What he said today will definately come back to haunt him.

Until late in the game when the Steelers started sending only 3 and dropping 8 .... thats when the Indy offense came alive . If ya ask me they should have stuck to what they had been successful with all day .... Hitting Manning in the mouth every chance they got .

The only thing a prevent defense does is prevent you from winning . (I was begining to think I was watching a Texans / Colts game there at the end.... but then I remembered that this was the play-offs ):brickwall

Why, is Indy picking Vince? Dang, that's a surprise.

I think that's a fair observation. For 4 years Carr has gotten beat to a pulp,
yet I've never seen a report of him complaining about his OL, which as we
know have let him down many, many Sundays. Manning gets a little taste of what Carr has been going thru all this time, and he immediately points his finger at his OL. If one of the traits of leadership is bearing the burden while
not blaming others, Carr is a far better leader in this instance than Manning.

Man, I didn't see Peyton Manning run anywhere. He messed up too and he shouldn't have put his line on blast to the media like that. Face it, he can't win the games that matter.

Two time league MVP vs. 15 wins in four years? I'll take the loser and his leadership all day.

"We had him confused. He was arguing with his offensive linemen. It's always a good sign for the defense when the quarterback's yelling at his teammates."

Accepting responsibility for losing when you're the QB is part of being a leader. I'd like to see how Vince feels after his first 3 game losing streak after getting creamed by safeties all day long. We know where Carr stands when it comes to adversity.

And I think that's the irony of it, the league MVP blaming his teammates for the teams failure. Not to classy and not the stuff of leadership.

I found a shot of Peyton from the press conference.

That why Terry Brandshaw said today that manning must be a winner and a loser. Peyton needs to learn how to advance in the playoffs and not choke, and not say dumb comments like the one one he said about his OL.

not that i trust any steelers players, but carr needs to give mckinney a toungue lashing for some of his calls he makes. just silly if you ask me.

IMO, this isn't the same thing ... arguing during the game happens every week ... complaining to the media doesn't

I think Carr has also complimented the OL when he had decent protection. Does anyone care to cherry pick one of those comments or are we just picking the bad ones?

Those of us who want him gone will chery pick the bad ones all day. Alot of us have been defending him and covering for him but we're done.
You see it's easy to find someones faults and hard to find someones hidden traits. Unfortunately they won't let us on the field to dig them up where they have been buried by opposing teams defensive players.

IMO, it takes a lot of praise to erase one instance of criticism. That's just human nature.

I love seeing Peyton lay an egg just as much as every other red blooded Texan fan but maybe his comment was taken out of context. Since Manning is in charge of calling his own plays doesnt the protection responsibilities lay on his shoulders as well?? Perhaps he was saying that he screwed up with being able to effectivly read Pittsburgs defense. Either way.. it sure was great watching the Colts loose.

What Peyton really meant to say was if their "liquored up kicker " had made the kick, they might have won.

Two time MVP? No offense, but who cares. He has just as many Superbowl rings as David Carr.

IMO Payton is this generations Dan Marino. He will set a whole bunch of records and have steller seasons. But, he will never get a ring.

Again my opinion but how good of a leader are you if you cant win with Edge, Harrison, Wayne, and stockly-spell.

Nope, none of that.

"I" have seen this before. "I" know exactly what the problem was out there today for the Indianapolis Colts.

I have it on good authority that the correct answer is some variation of the following:

" Well, we fought really hard today and nobody gave up. I'm really proud of the way these guys pulled together and nobody is blaming anyone else for what happened. There's no finger pointing going on in that locker room. What I think happened out there is that we just failed to execute. The other team made plays when they needed to make plays and we didn't make plays when we needed to make plays."

See, I was paying attention this year unlike all of you guys. I know how it's done!

All I know is to keep working, to come back next year and be a better quarterback, a better leader. You get tired of saying that after every playoff loss because pretty soon, you start running out of years

Payton manning after the loss
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5251062

"I'm looking for a safe word here, I don't want to be a bad teammate," Manning said when asked about Indianapolis' blown blocking assignments. "Pittsburgh gave us trouble and put us in some situations we're not usually in."

I wonder when the line does get it right if they turn around in the huddle and say, "hey hairboy, try getting it out of your hands in less than 5 seconds, that or stop staring right at Andre..oh yeah cowering in the fetal position before they hit you is a cool thing.":)

Like I said before, the next BIG GAME Peyton wins will be his first.

The quote was "That's as hopeless as I've felt in the pocket." Look at the Buffalo post game quotes. You can find them easily by Googling or looking in Chronicle archives. The Buffalo game is when Lopez ran the column about the fine line between fire and passion (the good kind) and calling out your teammates, because of all the tantrums he threw on the field that day.

Here's another instance from the Indy away game in '04:

Specifically, though, Carr was asked about the breakdown in pass protection that led to a season-high-tying five sacks.

"That was as bad as it's been in the last two years," Carr said
http://www.chron.com/CDA/archives/archive.mpl?id=2004_3819611

And to the person who asked if we're just picking the bad ones, read the question posed by the thread starter. I'm sure you can find several quotes where Carr said "the line did a great job today" or something to that effect. But that wasn't the question that was asked.

Carr has done it before.

yep saw it ..... and I don't disagree with aj OR with Carr in that instance .... aj posted it as rebuttal to the original poster (attaboy aj) and Carr said it because he WAS helpless in the pocket that day ....

the second post (Joey Porter) was not germane to this discussion, IMO , as it was within the players and did not involve the media .... was Carr any less "a good teammate" than Manning in this instance nah I don't think so because it's a silly argument to start with .... one of the commentators (Esiason I think) made the comment that Cowher outcoached Dungy defensively ... I agree and I also think Capers and Fangio were outcoached on a weekly basis .... Carr had the same pleasure of facing this Pittsburgh defense ... he fared no better ...

I just think any comparison between Manning's plight and Carr's is a joke. Who cares if one guy gets sacked 50 times and complains afterward. Manning isn't a big time player but he sure does get teams to a place where this franchise hasn't been able to even sniff. I think the main problem with the Colts is being too good early. I said this earlier in the year but their offense is a timing based offense and when you sit players for 3 weeks and then have an extra week off you aren't going to be game time sharp.

Doesn't look like you read my posts, nor did you, most likley under the context of my statement in which you quoted. It has been my hypothesis that QB's selected with the number 1 pick, since the salary cap in 1993, don't win Super Bowls. That puts Manning and Carr in the same boat. Moreover, my retort was about leadership. I would think that you if you asked around the league/country who displays more leadership it would probably be overwhelmingly Manning. . . probably. And yes I have considered the vocal Houston and Fresno State contigent swaying the result.

The Colts were down 21-3 in the 4th quarter. Someone led them back to be put in a position to extend or win the game. Now that I think about it, it did remind me of Carr leading us back against a bad Vikings Defense in 2004. Man is he an undercompensated leader.

'eh....Manning speaks the truth. Honestly, who cares? idonno:

They've just been through one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride - 13-0 season clinching the homefield, Dungy's son, a hard fought butt whooping by the Steelers...so I give him a little leeway with making a statement of the obvious.

He's still one of the great QBs in today's NFL, no matter how you slice and dice it.

After hearing the audio of it today I think less and less of it. He qualified it and it wasn't like he said, "Our tackles couldn't stop anyone." He just stated the obvious, that they had protection issues. I'm not a huge fan of his...kind of Marino-ish but I think this was pretty tame.

hey when u are consistently one of the top 3 passers year after year and as good as manning is, then you SHOULD have the right to criticize ur line, especially seeing as how they have been one of the better lines this season. manning is the face of the franchise, so if he has a problem, then he should be able to share it.

Right, be a great player on their backs and throw them under the bus when things go bad.

This is the way I feel, too. Manning was in a tough situation, because the media will keeping asking the question about his lack of protection. He could lie about it and blame himself 100%, but they'll keep on asking. It's obvious what was wrong - Indy could not pick up the blitz. The "lack of protection" statement could be in part to his own decisions as QB, his line not doing their jobs, or skill players failing to pick up on-coming blitzers. If anything, Manning was giving props to Pittsburgh.
