Eh. If your friend said he was upset about not having a new QB, that might be more believable, but even that's a stretch.
AJ will be gone in a few years, though. 2-3 seasons, perhaps? Hopefully the team plans for that eventually, but you don't just replace a guy like Andre Johnson.

wow thanks. Just sharing what I heard. No reason to lie. I've been here for years and guarantee you no one can find a single incident of me ever making something up. You can choose whether you want to believe it or not, doesn't mean **** to me.
And me sharing this has nothing to do with him missing camp. I would share the whole story about who he said this to and what he told that person he needed to do and become. Why waste my time, I have no credibility.

Andre's contract runs through the 2016 season but it's plus money for us if we cut him, trade him, or if he walks away this year ($3.6M).

I hope this is all BS Johnson has been my favorite Texan for years. Look at my avatar. And yes it was a "reliable friend" who told me this. Not trying to act like I have some inside source. I'm going to pm a couple of people and tell them the entire story and that will be the last I ever bring it up. It's a no win for me. If it's true then my favorite player retires. If it isn't true I'm sure I'll get ridiculed for this for a long time. In hindsight I guess I was stupid for wanting to share what I thought was reliable information about the team and one of its all time best players with people that I have talked texans football with for years.
Lesson learned.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was considering it. It has to cross his mind. He'll be 33. His grandkids are financially secure. He's had multiple serious injuries. Who wouldn't consider it?
However, I don't think it will happen. It's really rare for guys at the top of their game to walk away, especially with that much money on the table.

It would be a dick move of epic proportions for AJ to do this the week of the draft, which is why I have a hard time believing this.

As if that makes any difference to what he said. It would be a dick move if not announced to the team in advance of the draft which would be very un-AJ.
It's not a rebuild. Bob McNair said so.
Honestly, though, in that spirit, this team is only one season away from being a 12-4 team.
Granted, that season in between made us the crappiest team in the league, a laughing stock, and got the entire coaching staff fired.
But still, this team has a lot of talent.
We never know what goes through these players heads at the end of the day. If this rumor turns out to be true, then I'm sure it's something that AJ has been thinking about and feels it is the right thing to do.
I hope not, of course, and it doesn't seem like his M.O., but anything is possible.

I don't think McNair believes it's a re-build. If he thought that the talent on the team wasn't good I don't think he'd bring McNair back.
Total rebuild, to me, would mean wiping out everything and starting over. I don't see a carryover GM being a part of a rebuild.
That said, it doesn't mean Andre sees it that way.

andre's body language was really bad towards the end of last year. he went from looking frustrated to just dejected. losing wears on you and andre's been part of losing teams for a long time. CND had the right picture, "i'm tired" was the feeling i gathered. "rebuilding" again or whatever word you want to call it is likely making it harder to find the motivation that used to come easy.
i dont think he'll retire, but i've no doubt it's crossed his mind.

That's one person using the word "might." Doesn't mean a thing.
Maybe the guy just doesn't have the energy anymore for another re-boot. I love the guy, and will probably tear up when he eventually retires, but I can't say I blame him.
The Texans have paid him well, but they have also wasted his career.

Two, based on AJs age the claim is certainly plausible. AJ is now at the same age as Owens, Moss, Cinco and few others when their skills began to decline.
There are some folks who get to this point in their careers have said the off season preparation is tougher than playing a 16 game season. And the reason why they decide to retire.
Four, the bar for Texans QB play the next few years is set fairly low. Having to go through another demanding off season regiment knowing a rookie and/or a sub < .500 QB will be throwing to you could be reason enough to say, It's time!

When someone posts something that is disagreed with why does his integrity have to be questioned? Not just this thread but it frequently gets personal with name calling and negative adjectives tossed back and forth. Sometimes this MB reminds me more of a playground.

hehemussop has always been a solid poster, and personally, I think that should account for something. Well, a lot in my book. He's just relaying something he heard through a grapevine to his Texans buddies, but apparently, some folks do not like the message and shoot the messenger.
I think the internets has been a positive thing in many ways, but I also think the dark side of it is that it has made many folks cynical and jaded. If a new guy comes on and says this stuff, yeah, he lacks credibility and the response would be understandable. But mussop is not new and has never been one to do this sort of thing for attention, so I think he is being honest about something he heard that might be right or might be wrong. We shouldn't be scared to come to our forum and talk about stuff like this. JMO
