All encompassing 2022 draft thoughts thread

Exactly but we have to draft 2 big guards to start next to him. You think Nick will use three high picks on middle of oline with other positions needing help? Lol

Check out my latest Mock using PFN Mock Simulator. It would cover a lot of weaknesses.

Looks like Eagles wanted to push a 1st to next year and Saints needed an extra 1st now.
With the QB class next year, teams want ammo to have.

I think Salyer could play center if allowed time to train there. I think he has the perfect size and build to be a monster. Your thoughts?
I've been thinking along the same line. I would like to see an upgrade at OC, who can anchor against the bull rush and not get pushed back into the qb's pocket. I wouldn't mind getting Salyer for this role. He could back up Britt this year and gain some experience at the position.

No, but I'd like to see it happen. If we could hit a jackpot by trading down, it's not impossible. Don't hold your breath.

Could the Saints be setting themselves up to make a move up to take a qb?

Would Caserio and Lovie be, what word do I want (?), bold (?), yes let's go with bold, bold enough to take both Neil and Green in the 1st round? Imagine what that would do for our run game.

I would be happy with this.

Fix the OL for the next decade.

Tunsil/Neal/ Britt/ Green/Howard.

There's an ol you should be able to run behind. In fact I wouldn't have a problem putting Howard at LG and Green/Neal on the right side.

My new favorite RB - Kyren Williams ND.
Kid has a NASTY step and great elusiveness.
Has good hands and field positioning for those dumpoffs.
Knows how to get small in heavy traffic and finds gaps.
Also has a nice don't argue fend.
Not sure about his blocking but he was used primarily as a weapon with his skill set.
For anyone who hasn't watched this, do yourself a favor and be entertained.
One of his jukes completely inside outed a DB who fell on his arse and Williams didn't even touch him!

3) Houston Texans
Evan Neal, OL, Alabama

Second straight team that wouldn’t surprise me taking Thibodeaux because of the promise. But when I think of GM Nick Caserio, I think of long-term program-builder, and I think “Saban dude.” As a disciple of Bill Belichick, Caserio learned to trust Belichick’s best pal in coaching, Nick Saban, and Saban is all-in on this versatile long-term lineman. Neal can start at right tackle if need be and play four spots on the line, and is a near-lock to earn a second contract from the Texans.

Neal has the highest floor of any of the blue chip options. He is a set him and forget him long term plus starter on the OL wherever he ends up. Long term obviously LT, but short term could play anywhere except center and be a plus starter.

I can't get over the last Bama OL we had

I've seen 2 or 3 fresh mocks this morning with him moving to the very end of round one. Tunsil and Cooks are our only two cap killers at $18m & $17m respectively .... next is a DB at $3m. Can't remember how long Tunsil signed for, but Cooks is tradeable .... shame it isn't the other way around !

The cap will be fine next off-season.

There are, and I consider Neal to not only be the best, but the pick with the least bust factor.

As fun as it is to speculate trade downs and acquiring more picks there is something to be said for just grabbing a bluechip talent. WD40 was traded, the Texans will have six 1st round picks the next 3 years. At some point the Texans have to take their shot and what better way to do that than to get a franchise OL talent like Neal to usher in a new era of smash mouth football?

Dream scenario: Texans get Neal at 3 and Jordan Davis at 13. The team now has a major advantage in running the ball and stopping the run.

Spot on

If Caserio comes out of this draft with a greater ability to run the ball and stop the run then this will have been a successful draft, since this was the main 2 weaknesses on the team last yr. IMHO

This has been on my mind too - if Texans have a chance to draft two bona fide game influencers, with the first two picks, then go for it.
They can go to work really digging for those nuggets the rest of the way.
We would still have a primo pick at #37 to build on the foundation laid by the first two picks.
And picks #68 and #80 still give us a chance at nabbing a possible starter or maybe two depending on position.
This IS a rebuild, so we can't reasonably hope for the playoffs this season, so be patient, grab those two monsters for the trenches and add some nice pieces around them.

A dream scenario for Texans would be if Jags get sucked into the hype with Walker and take him #1 overall. That would guarantee Texans either Hutchinson or Neal if we stay pat #3.
I have a feeling someone is going to trade up to #2 or #3 for a QB.
Man, this draft can't come fast enough.

Go Big or Go Home !
I'll start working on Faalele !

There are 6 contenders that teams will target in the QB stakes: Malik Willis, Carson Strong, Kenny Pickett, Matt Corral and a dark horse, Desmond Ridder. Sam Howell may also be in the mix but three of these will slide into round two or the back end of 1.
Lions, Panthers, Falcons, Seahawks, Steelers and Saints and Washington with a possible later round taken by Texans.
So there are seven teams that could conceivably make moves in this draft for a signal caller.
We have seen an early shot across this drafts bow by Saints already who now own two mid 1st picks in a trade with Eagles. This may be preparatory to another move either on or before draft day.
It will be interesting to see if teams want first bite of the QB cherry and trade with Lions or Texans. Or Jags?
This draft is going to be a wild ride and I think Carstereo is going to be in the thick of it.

Steel Curtain? The New Orleans Steelers?
Like I said got teams mixed up. In my head was thinking Steelers, picking 20. In similar situation with Saints. Need a OT, heck Chargers sitting 17 need a RT that’s who the Saints jumped in front.

15 Philly
16 Saints
17 Chargers
18 Philly
19 Saints
20 Steelers

Great trade for Philadelphia.
Saints probably not done but what cost?
Chargers & Steelers probably on the phone right now with agents trying secure a tackle.

In my Mock….KC offered their RD1-29, RD1-30, RD2-50, and 2023 RD2 for the Texans #3 pick…..I took it.

Bengals offered up RD1-31, RD2-63, RD3-95, and their 2023 RD2 for the Texans #13 pick….and I took that one as well.

Raiders offered up RD3-86 and RD4-126 for the Texans RD3-80 and RD6-207….and I had to take that one as well.

In the end….trading 3 and 13 returned the Texans 9 of the top 100 and 11 of the top 108. 14 picks overall. If a team wants to start a rebuild on the right foot….this could be one way to do it.

Therefore, the Texans doesn’t have to draft him because there’s plenty of star level talent. There’s a strong possibility they will trade that number three pick to acquire more picks. If they go that route, they won’t be drafting Neal. The objective is to fill in several gapes with star level talent.

True, but if they stay at #3 Caserio should pick Neal.

I think it's doubtful Caserio will be able to trade down from #3. But I hope you're right. How far would you be willing to trade down? Who are the star level players you're looking at after trading down?

I could see this

I could also see a team like the Steelers trading up to 1-13 to get in front of the Saints to draft a QB.

If they stay it’s a strong possibility we will go with The Sauce Gardner.

You’ve seen my mock draft picks. Pretty sure several of them will be stars on the next level. Sauce will be a star

Like I said, I wont have a problem if Caserio uses the 1st three picks on defense. If Caserio doesn't draft Neal at #3, then I hope he goes with Sauce/Davis/Williams and if Cal wont let him draft Williams the Ekibetie would be my pick at 37.

Cal will not be involved with these picks in that manner. But I can see us possibly trading back that 3 for the 8-10, a second rounder and a 4th rounder in 2023.
With the 13 pick I would draft George Karlaftis. This youngster IMO will be a stud. Go check out some of his highlights.

With those two second round draft picks. I will target offense, mainly OG and WR. In the Third round, with our first selection I’m going with a RB, if Breece is still on the board. That’s who I’m going with, if not then it’s Kenneth Walker III. With the next two picks, best player available. Same with those 4th rounders.

My main goal would be to run the ball better and stop the run better. So that's why I would go with Neal/Davis.

But if Caserio went with Sauce/Johnson/Jones with his 1st three picks. As long as he can find a quality OL or 2 in the 3rd. I would be ok with him trading back into the 2nd for 1 of the quality OG's if he went the defense 1st route with the high draft picks.

Just for discussion, why do you think Neal has a higher floor than does Ahmad Gardner? Almost all sources say Neal should play one year at right tackle. I don't hear or see anyone saying sauce should play Anywhere day one other than outside cornerback. Same for Kyle Hamilton as all say he can play any of the safety positions and perhaps cornerback.. but should be a roaming safety . Some knock him for the slow 40 time but at least he competed at combine. Neil did not lift or do any of the events.

But do we need to spend pick three for one of those monsters in the trench? Many if not most here seem to agree that green, Johnson, Penning, Kennard and Salyer can be had at or after Pick 13. I think possible Zion and Kennard may be there at 37 and Salyer at 68 perhaps 80.
