Al Shaair Suspension

Porky, you must like today's NFL?

Not so much. But I also don't think it's the Roman Colosseum, where we throw unsuspecting humans into a pit with a lion and watch the carnage and call it entertainment. I'm not entertained by watching a guy purposely be concussed with a nasty shot to the head when said player is in a defenseless position. It was unnecessary and gratuitous, and now he'll suffer the consequences, harming his team. I do think he'll get it down to two games - we shall see.

We can have a good, physical style of play without slamming wrapped forearms into heads like a billy club. I was totally on Pitre's side when he got flagged a few weeks back for the hit on a WR. Good, hard...but CLEAN hit. They flagged him, but ref blew that call. But that's how you play safer while still bringing the wood.

I’ve had a bit of a change of heart after hearing some insightful comments from former players, especially quarterbacks like Tom Brady. Looking at the hit on Lawrence again, it’s clear it was an aggressive tackle, but when you’ve got 300-pound offensive linemen charging at you, aggression is part of the game. Quarterbacks, in particular, need to be more aware of that reality and take greater responsibility for protecting themselves. Football is a fast, violent sport, and while we often see these plays in slow motion, the impact on Lawrence happened in the blink of an eye.

In hindsight, I think a moderate fine would have been a more fitting response to the hit. And on a separate note, I also believe it’s time to impose a penalty for quarterbacks who fake a slide—there’s a fine line between evading a tackler and creating unnecessary confusion for defenders.

I agree with some of this, especially the last portion. They need to consider a rule change to make it easier on defenders and more fair for all. Good post.

I have watched Stroud end the play early to avoid a hit many times. Not always but I cringe when he does not. That should be the norm if they want to stay on the field. Look at the damage that Newton and Richardson took. Many more examples of this. The smart qbs should not even let it be close. They are not RBs. Many RBs are built extremely rugged but still have very short careers and you have to attribute the damage they take as a contributor.
Good points new guy. Keep them coming.

In particular he said the Defensive player shouldn't be the only one thinking about the QB's safety. If the QB thinks that 1st down is worth a possible late hit...

It made me think.

I still don't like that Azeez used his forearm to "tackle" a sliding QB & i don't like the way he carried himself after the hit.

I do think Casserio has a point when some players are fined multiple times before a one game suspension.
I think the forearm warrants a suspension, but three games is BS. If he had a track record of suspensions, fine. This is his first time being suspended in a six year career and it's for three games? That's unreasonable.

That's one of the little things I love about CJ. He's smart about ending his run a yard or two early to avoid an unnecessary hit. That extra yard is not worth time on the IR list.

I’ve slept on it & nope, the suspension is still trash.

Defenseless my ass. Their best defense is to get their asses down the minute they see a defender locking in on them when they run. If u can’t hit them in the pocket, and u can’t hit them when they are a runner outside of the pocket, then when can u hit them? They’re supposed to be football players like the other 52 players on the roster and It shouldn’t be the NFL’s job to protect these guys, b/c they don’t really do it for any other player on the field like that. it’s the players’ job to protect himself & if you don’t want to get hit, get your ass down or out of bounds well before the defender commits to you.

It chaps my hide how they protect these guys then pay them more money than any other position player on the team. They shouldn’t get all that money if the league is intent on protecting these guys like that.

How many quarterbacks are injured every year despite the current rules?

This suspension, and especially it being upheld, as as much an indictment of the way DeMeco and Nick handled this situation as it is Azeez. Showing virtually no contrition, trashing the NFL, blaming the other teams players. Azeez can thank his GM and HC at least in part. Azeez’ s behavior, his repeated pattern of troubling incidents, the 5 previous warnings, the missed punch, the 4 fines…none of it persuaded either Meco to coach him differently or for Azeez to change his behavior. Next time, he’ll get 8 games, and HC and GM might also get their wallet lightened. If they still condone this crap…they will get exactly what they deserve.

He’s an idiot

Do you enjoy the game now more than in the past?

I enjoy the QB being treated like any other player on the field. No defenseless receiver rules. No penalties if they lead with their head. Hip drop tackles had been going on for decades. Yep, give me old time NFL football, not some bastardized Arena Football League version of today's NFL.

That's not Roman Colosseum football. It's football that made the NFL the best professional sports product in this country.

He says the league is inconsistent. The Texans benefitted from the league not suspending him before even with multiple fines and penalties. So his argument makes zero sense. For Caserio to act like the Texans did not benefit from that is disingenuous at its core.
Agreed the league has been inconsistent, Rashee Rice would still be playing despite the fact that he damn near killed a citizen. Also have you seen the clips of how Runyan played the game? He would be suspending himself if he was the judge back when he played. In short Runyan is a hypocrite. AL has never been kicked out of a game or suspended, can you name one player that has gotten 3 games that has never been kicked out of a game or never been suspended. Also explain how the Dolphins LB (Played at Oregon but I cant remember his name) put the same exact hit on Flacco and only got one game.

None of this addresses that The Texans have benefitted from him not being suspended prior to now for multiple infractions. The league may have been too lenient. Caserio has no right to complain.

He did nothing but ensure that suspension would be upheld.
Your probably correct, I think the suspension will be reduced to 2 games.

Because of the way the NFL has mishandled this IMHO, If a Texans player gets a chance to put a shot on Tua he takes the shot. If they're going to be treated like the late 70's/early 80's Raiders then they should embrace the role of the Villain and start taking guys out.

NFL didn’t mishandle anything. Seems some Texans fans only like rules when it doesn’t apply to the team. True homerism.

WRONG.. Texan fans don't like rules that only apply to them.. Hey genius, please tell me how many football players were ever suspended for 3 games their first suspension? Not talking about PEDs. What the league did was unprecedented.

Plenty and I mean PLENTY of winning teams had heels.
I wonder how he would've felt about the 70 Raiders Warren Wells, the Steroid Steelers of the 70's. Rae Carruth, The Juice, Warren Moon or today Hill, Rice, Frank Clark of the Chiefs?

But a play where Brady and several other former defensive guys have said Goldy Locks should've gotten down, but he was going for a 1st down and a bad result happened.

I just hope this doesn't cost the Texans defense doesn't lose it's edge.

More whining. Amazing. Show me the last forearm to the head/neck area on a sliding QB. Last one I remember is Cam Newton.

Like I asked you before, what player has ever been suspended for 3 games when they've never been kicked out of a game or suspended? I'll wait

No homerism here, I just think the rules should be applied equally. In this case the Texans need to embrace the Villain role and start laying guys out.

3 games. You’re acting like it’s 10.

Different era different rules. Adjust to the times.

May as well put a red jersey on these dudes and just not let anyone hit them at all.

The most coddled players on the team, given the most power yet need the most help to be successful. & while they get the lion share of the blame when a team loses..they also get the lion share of the credit/acclaim when they win too. All the while steadily siphoning off money from other important positions.

Gooddell’s NFL is trash
