Adrian Peterson has been indicted

As for if this was child abuse, Texas defines it separately in a family law chapter. So abuse is not a charge, but it is very broadly defined to include pretty much all violence against a child. You can see the very lengthy definition here: http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/FA/htm/FA...

Sounds like he took a switch to his behind....

I think I'd have to see the injuries...If getting hit with a switch a lone is cause for arrest most of the old women in my family would have records...

Heh, as long as their's no video footage of this incident, the whole thing should be a blip in the radar. Move along folks nothing to see here.

Per 610, Peterson said that if the child were not so tough and would have cried, he would have re-evaluated going on. He considered what he was doing was a "normal" child whipping. The switch caused extensive wounds, severe scrotal trauma, leg cuts to mention just a few. "Daddy had a whipping room with lots of belts and whips."

This was all caused by the child shoving his brother off of a video arcade motorcycle.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT

"Ray Rice" who ?
That's the mentality of the media, because this sounds like it will be a bigger story because of the subject matter and the fact that it involves a bigger NFL name, so the media will drop Rice like a "hot potato" and focus laser like on the story involving AD.

Just saw the pictures. Blake and I are arguing about it. I definitely feel it crosses the line into abuse. Blake does not. :whip:

Doesn't sound good...

The “whooping” – as Peterson put it when interviewed by police – occurred in Spring, Texas, in May. Peterson’s son had pushed another one of Peterson’s children off of a motorbike video game. As punishment, Peterson grabbed a tree branch – which he consistently referred to as a “switch” – removed the leaves and struck the child repeatedly.

The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the child’s back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the child’s hands. Peterson then texted the boy’s mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her “mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.”

Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the child’s mother that he “felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh” and also acknowledged the injury to the child’s scrotum in a text message, saying, “Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n I’m all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!”

In further text messages, Peterson allegedly said, “Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but don’t play no games when it comes to acting right.”

According to police reports, the child, however, had a slightly different story, telling authorities that “Daddy Peterson hit me on my face.” The child also expressed worry that Peterson would punch him in the face if the child reported the incident to authorities. He also said that he had been hit by a belt and that “there are a lot of belts in Daddy’s closet.” He added that Peterson put leaves in his mouth when he was being hit with the switch while his pants were down. The child told his mother that Peterson “likes belts and switches” and “has a whooping room.”

To those of you surprised this is attracting police attention, I'm sorry but that's f'ed up. That anyone would consider hitting their child with something until it causes bleeding - at 4 years of age - actually makes me sick to my stomach.

"My parents did it so I will too" is how sexual abuse is often carried on through generations as well. When your child - a 4 year old - requires medical intervention because of the severity of your "whipping" you deserve to go to jail. End of story.

Children learn what they live. Then they become adults and their children learn what they lived. And so on.

It's also amazing to me that many of the men on this board would never hit a woman under any -- any -- circumstances but consider using a foreign object to inflict lacerations on a child - a 4 year old - somehow justified. Sick.
And yes before anyone asks I do have a son.

A woman can push a man's buttons to the point where you just can't take it any more and want to knock the piss out of her. And women do the same to men. Having been in that situation - on both sides - I can at least try to understand a man knocking the **** out of his wife. And vice versa.

But there is no justification for beating and abusing a child. None whatsoever. I have no tolerance for anyone who seeks to justify hurting a child. My mom whipped my ass when I was a kid and I learned from it. I've whipped my kids, although the times were very few, but never to where they were injured.

Anyone who defends AP in this is as big a piece of **** as he is.

The anxiety of picking your own switch was worse than the actual whooping for me. If I picked one that was too thin, it stung like a mofo, but if I went with one that was too thick it hurt the bones, man. What really sucked was growing up in East Texas I was surrounded by pine trees! Now those were some serious switches.

If there wasn't a switch available, my grandma used to bust out the house shoe on me. My great grandma had a Piggly Wiggly paper sack rolled up with duct tape on it.... that was the biggest threat. She would wait and let me think I had gotten away with something, and when it was time to come inside for the day, she would pop me on the butt from her rocking chair she posted up in on the front porch. To this day I shudder at the sight of Porky Pig... :littlelol:

What is up with all these big bad pro football players abusing women and children? They need to dig a hole under the jail to throw all these POS's in and cover it back up.

Some kids needs a good whooping. Peterson probably gone too far. He probably forgets he's built like a gladiator and didn't realize his own strength. But please don't spin this in the direction of Ray Rice.

That's bs I'm 6'4" and 260lbs and have never drew blood or injured one of my children. He is a POS just like Rice.

wow the conclusions people jump to over hearsay is remarkable

For me it was a plum switch backed up by the old backscratcher :D

So you can violently run through a brick wall like Peterson with little loss of acceleration to your 4.37 speed with no problem? Why are you here on this board instead of playing football? The man is a physical freak. Someone like that is more likely to accidentally break something due to their superhuman ability than the average person.

And yes what he did was wrong but I'm not rushing to cross over to the feces throwing line.

And what conclusions are you referring to exactly?

You really think that those photos on the media are enough to be conclusive? You can't really tell honestly. This is something hardly anyone will know.

I got whipped with belts and stuff like that. IT sucked, but it wasn't child abuse. It was normal discipline that has gotten away from kids these days and it is unfortunate in my opinion. If AP went much further, then he should be prosecuted. We will likely never know though.

Someone's fantasy team just got shat on. **** Adrian Peterson, I get losing your cool as a parent, but you never go full rage on a child. What is the maximum sentence for whatever he's been indicted for?

I'm not sure what you're saying. The photos are medical evidence. There are written statements detailing the laceration and the scrotal injuries. There are texts from AP laughing about hitting the child in the scrotum. There is the admission from AP to the police and his testimony to the grand jury and subsequent indictment. He has denied nothing. What do you mean we will never know?

Did he mean to injure his child? He says no and I fully believe him. Doesn't excuse the actions though.

Okay, so Peterson may (or may not be) a disciplinarian.... That's okay with me. We need more of it.

That said, let's remember, this is a guy from Palestine Texas who grew up with tough love in a rural area..

That said and irrespective of that, this is a guy that is probably still mourning the death of his son at the hands of his exes boyfriend.

PERSPECTIVE!

Let the facts play themselves out.

I don't run a 4.37. I'm 40 so kinda past the age of playing pro football. I can bench press 300lbs, but I workout with 250lbs though and I have been known to break boards and bricks with my hands and feet. I hold a 2nd dan black belt in Hap Ki Do and a 3rd dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I think I might be able to strike someone as hard as AP though, but I could be wrong.

From some of what I've read AP admitted to the police that he caused said injuries, text confirm it as well. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out

I remember having to get that switch as a kid when I ate half a bowl of cake batter. It was not some organized event where you laid across the bed or an adult's lap. It's very easy to get marks on different areas because you are not just standing still while getting those licks, plus the switch was thinner and more flexible than a branch which made scarring easier. Afterward I got a lil aloe vera on me, then later hugs and kisses and it was all good. But I tell you this, after that 1 time I be damned if ate cake batter or pissed off my big mama ever again!

That makes no sense at all. So because he lost one son in a brutal beating that explains him beating (allegedly) this child? That's the perspective you're trying to sell?

Internet ahoy, judge, jury, and execution.

Hell my dad took a belt to my ass it was black and blue for a few days easily, but you know what when my buddies wanted to do stupid **** again, hell no I didn't go.

They got grounded.. I got my ass beat.. I learned.. Each child is different and you have to discipline them as differently as well.

confirmed - Vikings press release.

Seriously, people use or have used a tree branch to discipline their kids? Really?
Yeah.
Really.
And in my neighborhood, mommas would make YOU go get the switch for her to use on your butt.

So yeah. Happened in every household in my 'hood.
