for what exactly?
nothing I've seen so far has much detail
Could the NFL have possibly have had a worse week?
Man. Links coming.
As for if this was child abuse, Texas defines it separately in a family law chapter. So abuse is not a charge, but it is very broadly defined to include pretty much all violence against a child. You can see the very lengthy definition here: http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/FA/htm/FA...
Arrest of Adrian Peterson (reported by @MarkBermanFox26) stems from the disciplining of a son with a switch, source says. He’s been indicted

Sounds like he took a switch to his behind....
I think I'd have to see the injuries...If getting hit with a switch a lone is cause for arrest most of the old women in my family would have records...

confirmed - Vikings press release.
Seriously, people use or have used a tree branch to discipline their kids? Really?

a tree branch??? lol
The whooping as Peterson put it when interviewed by police occurred in Spring, Texas, in May. Petersons son had pushed another one of Petersons children off of a motorbike video game. As punishment, Peterson grabbed a tree branch which he consistently referred to as a switch removed the leaves and struck the child repeatedly.
The beating allegedly resulted in numerous injuries to the child, including cuts and bruises to the childs back, buttocks, ankles, legs and scrotum, along with defensive wounds to the childs hands. Peterson then texted the boys mother, saying that one wound in particular would make her mad at me about his leg. I got kinda good wit the tail end of the switch.
Peterson also allegedly said via text message to the childs mother that he felt bad after the fact when I notice the switch was wrapping around hitting I (sic) thigh and also acknowledged the injury to the childs scrotum in a text message, saying, Got him in nuts once I noticed. But I felt so bad, n Im all tearing that butt up when needed! I start putting them in timeout. N save the whooping for needed memories!
In further text messages, Peterson allegedly said, Never do I go overboard! But all my kids will know, hey daddy has the biggie heart but dont play no games when it comes to acting right.
According to police reports, the child, however, had a slightly different story, telling authorities that Daddy Peterson hit me on my face. The child also expressed worry that Peterson would punch him in the face if the child reported the incident to authorities. He also said that he had been hit by a belt and that there are a lot of belts in Daddys closet. He added that Peterson put leaves in his mouth when he was being hit with the switch while his pants were down. The child told his mother that Peterson likes belts and switches and has a whooping room.
Usually by the time they get back from being told to go cut a switch, you don't have to use it.
Lol, yeah. Is this a southern thing?
Children learn what they live. Then they become adults and their children learn what they lived. And so on.
It's also amazing to me that many of the men on this board would never hit a woman under any -- any -- circumstances but consider using a foreign object to inflict lacerations on a child - a 4 year old - somehow justified. Sick.
And yes before anyone asks I do have a son.
Some kids needs a good whooping. Peterson probably gone too far. He probably forgets he's built like a gladiator and didn't realize his own strength. But please don't spin this in the direction of Ray Rice.
The anxiety of picking your own switch was worse than the actual whooping for me. If I picked one that was too thin, it stung like a mofo, but if I went with one that was too thick it hurt the bones, man. What really sucked was growing up in East Texas I was surrounded by pine trees! Now those were some serious switches.
If there wasn't a switch available, my grandma used to bust out the house shoe on me. My great grandma had a Piggly Wiggly paper sack rolled up with duct tape on it.... that was the biggest threat. She would wait and let me think I had gotten away with something, and when it was time to come inside for the day, she would pop me on the butt from her rocking chair she posted up in on the front porch. To this day I shudder at the sight of Porky Pig...![]()
wow the conclusions people jump to over hearsay is remarkable
For me it was a plum switch backed up by the old backscratcher![]()

For a crappy subject this is turning out funny watching all the jumping to conclusions and sanctimoniousness going on.
So you can violently run through a brick wall like Peterson with little loss of acceleration to your 4.37 speed with no problem? Why are you here on this board instead of playing football? The man is a physical freak. Someone like that is more likely to accidentally break something due to their superhuman ability than the average person. That's bs I'm 6'4" and 260lbs and have never drew blood or injured one of my children. He is a POS just like Rice.
Sent from the future...
And what conclusions are you referring to exactly?
You really think that those photos on the media are enough to be conclusive? You can't really tell honestly. This is something hardly anyone will know.
I got whipped with belts and stuff like that. IT sucked, but it wasn't child abuse. It was normal discipline that has gotten away from kids these days and it is unfortunate in my opinion. If AP went much further, then he should be prosecuted. We will likely never know though.

And yes what he did was wrong but I'm not rushing to cross over to the feces throwing line.
Okay, so Peterson may (or may not be) a disciplinarian.... That's okay with me. We need more of it.
That said, let's remember, this is a guy from Palestine Texas who grew up with tough love in a rural area..
That said and irrespective of that, this is a guy that is probably still mourning the death of his son at the hands of his exes boyfriend.
PERSPECTIVE!
Let the facts play themselves out.
Yeah.confirmed - Vikings press release.
