2024 TRAINING CAMP DISCUSSION THREAD

I actually feel like they're really pleasantly surprised at DT and no longer expect to see anything go on at that position unless a true superstar comes available. Even then Demeco tends to play his starting DTs only around 60% of the snaps, so there's also the team a management aspect of how much cap $ do you give to a position that doesn't actually play that many snaps.
If we could take defensive tackle off of the draft board at round one, that would certainly be great.

From the link above:

18. Then, I shifted back to watching the offense. On the first play, RB Dameon Pierce took off like a shot on a wide run where there was some room to run against the defense. He hit the BOOSTERS and took off. Even though there was a flag, I didn't even care, I loved seeing Dameon hit the gas out in space.

21. I stayed with the Texans offense for the next series after special teams. Right out of the chute, Pierce blasted through on an inside run and looked like the Dameon of 2022. No hesitation. See the hole. BLAST through the hole. Good start to the series.

26. On the second to last play of that series, OL Nick Broeker made a really nice kick out block to open a hole for Dameon Pierce. I could hear that collision and Broeker was able to get enough movement on the block to open a hole for Dameon to sprint through.

It was Dameon Pierce day at the joint practice.

In the past, I would make it out to the practices. Always saw the legendary fan Joe Texan. Usually ran into him getting the practice tickets at Foleys, as well. My job doesn't allow the freedom that I once had, plus I don't know if I can handle the heat that well, now. You certainly have your hands full. Hopefully, one of our Texans Talk brethren can make it out to the practice field.
We miss Joe very much. He was good to us. All of yall really. I saw his mom a couple years ago at a tailgate so his spirit is definitely still around.

I said it earlier in camp when they said they were almost exclusively playing Pitre at nickel but i think what they're doing with the safeties says more about the corner depth than how great the safeties are.

Lassiter wasnt even challenged for the starting cb spot. I hope hes THAT good, but there wasnt a corner on that roster that even made it an interesting competition with a second rd rookie.

I do like our safety depth, but the cb depth scares the xhyt out of me. So get creative with the safeties. I like it.
Totally agree. Okudah and Henderson? Will they be on final roster? Even my guy Troy Pride Jr hasn't created much talk. He did have 4 tackles and 2 passes defended so I am still pulling for him.
I guess Steven Nelson is wishing he had not run his mouth?

I think Okudah makes it as a backup. I am less certain about Henderson. 50/50 at best, and it may depend on who lands on waivers or maybe they can pull off a trade.

Troy has done some decent things. He is a former fourth-round pick on his fourth team. I doubt he will make it to the 53, but if he clears waivers, he could be a PS candidate.

Mike Ford is sort of the same. He gets burned quite often, but I've also seen him blanket his guy pretty well. It's inconsistent. He might also be a PS guy.

Does my guy King make it? Pitre has taken his spot, but King also brings versatility, depth, and ST value. I hope he makes it.

I don't think the CB room will 100% consist of guys currently on the roster. I feel like there will be some churn there on the backend.

He works for the team, so he kinda has to be biased.

You basically made my point. And I don't think you have to be Mr. hyper-homer man if you work for the team. Certainly, you have to be a bit careful not to criticize overtly or over the top...but you don't have to drool at every 4th string RB's runs, either. He tells half the story. Like in camp - "I saw DP run around the corner after the "DE" lost containment" - but never names the DE because that would mean the DE didn't have a good rep there and John refuses to name him. He's not someone I take seriously, although I think he has the chops to be a good analyst.

He didn't name the OL or TE that stumped the DE either.

I agree, though, take Harris with a grain of salt. But we know there's a reason they're running Pierce out there with the 1st team so far. Can't explain it. There's got to be something we don't see.

This could be it. Titus Howard said similar things as well.

Other than Pierce what other personnel snafus has Caserio & Ryans made?

There's gotta be something we don't see.

Is it the same thing we didn't see when Pierce was the starter ahead of Singletary? Where they only made the change after several weeks of awful play.

Hes still really young. He's the youngest RB on the roster. Both rookies we brought in are about a full year older than DP. I can see his youth and the fact that hes an nfl vet who has shown ability on this level being reasons why they want to give him every opportunity to get right. Not sure what they're breaking point would be though.

I remember when I used to play fantasy football I picked up David Johnson every year after his big breakout… only to be disappointed.

Thanks Doc. Any word on Harris or Will Anderson?

I’m worried one or both won’t be ready for game one. Especially worried about Harris.
Anderson as of today has not returned to practice. The team is not revealing much info on his injury to schedule for return. However, throughout last Dec and Jan, he was dealing with a high ankle sprain for which he missed 2 games. I am very suspicious that he is dealing with the same problem. His "ankle sprain" was first reported Aug 7. Any ankle sprains, but especially high ankle sprains, tend to linger in a season. I have to believe that the 15 lb weight gain is not doing it any good.

Christian Harris has not practiced since July 18 with what at first was reported as an "undisclosed injury." It was later revealed to be a "calf injury." On Aug 11, he returned to practice for the first time since the start of training camp but left early limping after running a couple drills. He was brought back too soon. Also as a rule, calf tears have a significant recurrence rate in the 2 seasons following the initial injury. The Texans should stay very conservative on his return.
