2024 Free Agency

I'm okay with letting Juice and Patterson battle it out for the starting Center position. I think whoever wins will be good there. LG is a massive question mark.

Can Kenyon Green play at a starting level?
Kendrick Green was decent before he got hurt, but can he be a quality full-time starter?
If Juice starts at Center, can Patterson be effective at LG?
Can Broeker possibly emerge as the starter?

All unknowns. Given the information about Howard's injury, RT will need to be addressed with at least a good quality reserve. I wouldn't be opposed to resigning Fant and drafting Patrick Paul in the 3rd round.

These are the concerns that keep me up at night. I go to bed, put the offensive linemen tape on, and fall asleep watching. They finally signed a free agent -6'6" 350, 19 BP's, 7.44 .... I'll bet he is a great guy, really .... but we run a zone and the linemen have got to be athletes !

Wow, that's a huge amount for him. I thought he would be in the 12-15m a year range. No way he lives up to that deal with Levis and Rudolph throwing to him.
That’s stupid money, especially when Hopkins is gonna be telling Levis to throw him the ball.
Titans have been historically stupid with WR's. In addition to Hopkins they also have first round pick Burks crying for the ball

Nick and Demeco are so clearly on the same page! It is evident in the speed and nimbleness of these moves... and non-moves. Clearly, there was a very detailed and layered plan they put together for the off-season. Nick has been able to turn from one signing attempt quickly to the next... and so on. They are so prepared!
Finally competence in both the GM/HC positions. I guess there's a 1st time for everything.

I was wrong he made the pro bowl in 22. Regardless he is a perfect example of how we can upgrade the interior OL without breaking the bank. Though I’m not sure why anyone is worried about spending decent money to protect our QB.

holes are holes. And LG and C are holes that need to be filled by better talent than currently on the roster. Don’t know why this is so confusing to some. It’s like people here don’t value good OL. Maybe you’re ok with Stroud getting David Carred. I’m not. One of the hardest things for a QB to do is perform well when he has pressure up the middle. No one currently on this roster has any proven track record of being even average atC or LG. I really don’t understand how anyone can think we’re ok at those positions just because we should be more healthy there this year. Consider me mind blown. I’d rather run back with the same receivers than the same OL.
Because Ryans said he was happy with how Patterson performed at C. Scruggs is young and talented. Kendrick Green performed pretty well at LG before getting hurt and we dont know what they have with Kenyon Green but hopefully he comes back healthy and in shape. If he does this he will be the starting LG and the run game will be improved. There's a reason he was a 1st rd pick. Now if you want to talk Howard at RT, then that position definitely needs to be upgraded.

This is what's been missing since the yr before Kubiak got fired. RS was impossible to work with because when he wasn't chasing tail around the offices down on Kiby, he had to be the smartest man in the room instead of working with his HC/Scouts.

jesus you’re terrible

With Rankins leaving, it’s Armstead or bust for a true solid starter at DT in FA. I wonder if the trade fell through over compensation among the two teams…or over player compensation. I still expect Aric to sign here. It makes too much sense for both sides. I expect a deal tonight or tomorrow.

Xavian Howard has been released by the phins. He was average last year, but if the money isn’t crazy, I think he would be a great fit as a starter across from Sting…taking the Nelson role, and if he rebounds…he’s better then Nelson. I’d still draft a corner early as you need 3 solid starter level corners today. I hope Nick is reaching out to his agent to at least kick the tires.

Careful talking like that around here. People will accuse you of smoking crack.

Did you just fall, off the turnip truck? If you were around last year, you know Fant wasn’t signed until August after Howard broke his hand. Panicking in March isn’t going to help. Unlike some believe, Howard is likely coming back in 2024.if not day one…at some point. And unlike some…Howard is an above avg RT when healthy imho. And most importantly, that’s what the Texans appear to believe. If Howard cannot go, they will be ready with a plan..but not in March.

Well at least we made 1 good SPLASH signing!
Why?
Almost all the free agent signings have been defense. Now expect an impact offensive pick at 1-23...WR.
I'd trade my entire draft to get MHJ. The Texans have plugged a lot of holes. Having CJ throwing to M in the pros, with his other weapons, wouldn't be fair.

He would be great working with his buddy again but I really don't think we need him.
CJ has some great targets already in Collins and Dell so sit pat and take Brian Thomas.
I think he will quickly become a star in this league - especially with CJ throwing to him.

Not surprising, I was thinking that was potentially a nice swap of DTs if both parties and players were amenable to it. However, Armstead had 17m in salary owed to him this year, and there's no way he's getting that much APY on the market right now. He missed 5 games last year, and even more the year before, I think he will sign something in the 2-3 year range at 8-10m per year, probably with some playtime incentives. There's no way he was going to accept a trade and a huge paycut, I'm sure his agent told him to roll the dice with Free Agency.

Btw, someone posted a while back about the Mixon trade being smart by avoiding comp pick cancellation, and that's incorrect because 'cut' players do not count for comp picks. So Armstead shouldn't factor into the equation if he's signed, just like Mixon wouldn't have if he was cut. However, he may have wanted more than 6m for 1 year, and gotten that elsewhere, so it was a good move to lock him up.

Yall keep forgetting the draft. How many 30 yr old guys do the team need/want? Especially an injury prone one who cant really rush the qb?

We touched briefly on this in another thread. It MAY be whether the trade can be designated a post-June 1 trade. There is a significant difference between pre-June 1 and post-June 1.
Trades can not be designated post June as cuts are. The dead $ can be spread over current year and the next year as can post June cuts.

Jarrett Patterson played all but opener at LG per Chad Reuter. He didn’t give up a sack at ND at OC or OG.

Is Jadaveon Clowney a pass rusher? He has never had a 10 sack season in college or the NFL
He's not a good one because he can't bend. He's a good player, but there is a reason he hasn't got paid paid. Listen, I understand analytics, but at the end of the day, if you're a good pass rusher, you get the qb on the ground. Who won the Rams SB? Aaron Donald. We didn't need to see a win rate or anything else, we saw it in hd. He put Burrow on the ground. Jones wrecked Burrow in that championship game when they won too. Armstead has 33 sacks in 9 years. He had 1 10 sack season in 2019 and haven't smelled 10 sacks.

Does your DT have to be a high sack guy? How many DT's are?

I agree with you. We can get upgrades at those positions through the draft and through free agency. There is still plenty of time!

That crossed my mind yesterday and I immediately dismissed the idea. They can't be that crazy can they? I'd love it but damn, that would be expensive as all hell even if someone up there at the top would be interested in doing it. After last season's double-tap with Stroud and Anderson at 2 and 3 I don't know if I could rule anything out. These madmen (DeMeco and Nick) are on a mission!

A Super Bowl mission. I actually posted that just to be controversial, but I would give up a lot to get MHJ. He's going to be a serious stud in the NFL and the Texans have plugged a lot of holes.

Clowney is an all time great example of a guy with every natural gift you could ask for in a job but none of the drive or discipline to use it to its full protentional. He was/is good at stopping the run but with his size and abilities he should have been Watt 2.0. I for one was happy to see him go and do not want him back on the team.

He is true but I'd rather they look for a RT at 23 and then for a WR in the later rounds. Howard maybe back and he maybe 100% but I question that and would rather have his backup learning and ready to play as soon as possible.

I never said that, but when you're one of the highest paid in the NFL, im sure you're expecting that correct? You think Madibuike, Wilkins getting those kind of deals if the had 14 sacks in the last 4 years?
