2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

Texans draft JJ Watt in the first round.

Arguably the best defensive player all time if you look at pure PEAK dominance.

And they failed to get to the AFC Championship with him due to lack of QB. They finally got one and it was too late as injuries etc took over.

The 49'ers drafted defense and defense yet couldn't make it happen and realized they needed to take their shot. They finally came to that realization.

I am going to be extremely disappointed in the organization if they don't come out with a QB because it will just be punting the ball down the road for what?

Nick isn't guaranteed next year. Is he really going to draft for the future or for the now. Davis Mills isn't acceptable as your starter, and neither is a mid round QB. People cite Brock Purdy, but we would never know who he was if Garoppolo/Trey Lance didn't get hurt.

Take the QB.............

QBs don't sit any more when they come out as rookies. If the team is absolutely tanking, they will throw Hooker out at some point.

Heck, the Texans started a third-round rookie. Granted it was the third game, but when they signed Taylor as the starting QB, it was virtually guaranteed that Mills would start at some point. They expected him to play that year.

Watt was amazing during peak performance, but he will never touch Lawrence Taylor as the best defensive player of all time. Lawrence changed the way the game is played.

Lawrence Taylor wasn't knocking down passes like JJ. I will reiterate best PEAK ever. JJ was great at defending the pass, Pressuring the QB, Sacking the Qb, and stopping the run.

He will forever be underrated if people really feel like Lawrence peak was better. It wasn't.

Final prediction time: crazy trades early for QB's and Jalen Carter truly does fall out of top 10 (surprisingly). Texans take Will Anderson at #2 and Carter at #12. Astros win the next 8 series, and hoes stay mad. Rockets finish top 8 next year. My wife's boyfriend decides to take the next step in the relationship sometime around mid-June. Jon Jones wins his next bout at heavyweight. Titans end up with Stroud and he's a pro-bowl caliber QB by 2026. Dolphins win the Superbowl next season.

Love JJ but he did not have the best peak ever, and was often more interested in chasing stats. And was in no way better than LT.

You talk as if you think your opinions are fact. They're not and few, if any, agree with you

I talk as my opinions are opinions. It doesn't offend me if I think differently. Whole point of original post was just to show it never mattered that we drafted JJ. It wouldn't have mattered if we drafted Lawrence Taylor 2.0...

Wait, your wife's BOYFRIEND?? Now this I need more info on, noone is reporting

We have two picks inside the first 12, and yet I am dreading what happens tonight.
I am believing in the art of the possible, life is more fun that way. I do remember leaving the draft party pissed and storming out when they picked Tytus Howard though, so that optimism only seems to last so long. He turned out better than the guy I wanted, Dillard. So no reason to judge the same day unless they BOB it

Take the QB.............

Get Anderson (Watt)
Develope Pierce (Arian)

Now you just need to find two HoF WRs whose careers you can waste too.

Love JJ but he did not have the best peak ever, and was often more interested in chasing stats. And was in no way better than LT.

Four seasons: 70 sacks, two 20-sack seasons, 190 QB hits, 40 passes defended, 15 forced fumbles, 1 safety, 80-yard Pick-6 and three DPOY.

Granted after this dominating stretch he only had one more good season for the rest of his career. But this was as dominating a stretch as anyone has had.

LT had a more consistent career. No one is saying he was better than LT, who played a different position and revolutionized the linebacker position. But LT never had a peak run like that.

Personally I would rather have an LT - consistently great for a long time - than a JJ who had a short but incredibly dominating run.

Just like I would rather not get cute in this draft and get a bunch of guys who will contribute to this team over the next decade and not take a bit swing - and possible miss - on some big name potential.

Totally agree. They are going to outsmart the whole league again, and put their foot in another pile and come out looking like the idiots they are. Draft the guy at 1.2 that is your future top 10 starter and stop getting overly cute. CJ is there for the plucking. Will they? Of course not! Since when have the Texans done something smart at the top of the draft? It's been since Hopkins I think since they've made the obvious choice.

DeMeco had to have been promised a QB at the top of the draft to even come to Houston. An in-demand candidate isn't hitching his career to Davis Mills or a mid-rounder.

I think the fanbase is divided into two camps with PTSD

One still has flashbacks with Carr over Peppers
The other is for the Yates/Savage/Mallet era.

Tonight is certainly going to be triggering for one of those camps

Anderson isn't Peppers. Not close. Good player, great locker room guy and all that. But not close to Peppers. I'm also concerned about scheme fit. I'm thinking he needs to be turned into a LB/DE hybrid. Which is why I was thinking Tyree who is an excellent fit, but now with the foot....??? Not so sure about that.

Which leaves CJ as the hyper obvious choice. Clean injury history, makes every throw in the book with elite accuracy, and his last tape was elite level against the best D in college football. Nah, we don't want that guy! :hankpalm:

Not just thinking of the LZ mock/tweet but all of the people covering this thing every year....

So it's like "Here's my final mock" and then "Here's my tweet that explains why I was thinking that and what I really should have said". Sometime before 6PM will come the "Here's the tweet that explains what the earlier tweet was about" and then right after the pick is made "Here's my tweet that tells you why I knew this was certain to happen all along and didn't want to spill the beans".

Lance has spread himself thin already.

Has mentioned Wilson.... then Anderson.....

Now has come out and said.. oh wait, not guard. Maybe another edge.

And also, we may take Stroud.

Smells like Roses either which way. Bases have been covered, retweets ready.

He has done exactly what every NFL draft guy has done in the last two weeks.

Only 7 more hours!!!!!!!!

Every year Lawrence Taylor gets bigger and his feats become more astounding. People look at the past and blow everything out of proportion. Players get faster, stronger, and bigger in their memories and they read the statements of other people who are experiencing the same thing and add to that. Wait until JJ is a decade or two into the rearview mirror and see how he's remembered. One day they'll find some foundation damage at NRG Stadium and someone will say "I remember when JJ Watt did that..." It's always a big fish story.

Except for Lawrence Taylor. That man might very well have been from Krypton. :superman:

Yes. Because if the head coach and GM come out and say "We only like one QB" they have lost all leverage.
And we shouldn’t believe in the sources either correct. Especially since we heard the new regime is being tight lipped. Meaning they’re not giving out any freaking information. Doc even posted sources echoing those same sentiments. The TEXANS ARE NOT LEAKING OUT ANY OF THEIR BUSINESSES. Period!!!!

When it comes to this draft, Use the KISS method. A QB in the hand is always worth two in the bush.

Pushing this thing out to 2024 is bonkers. Nick may not have a job in 2024 if he doesn't procure a QB that has a top-10 ceiling.

If they go with Anderson, then it's got to be Richardson or Hooker...neither of which you can rely on for anything this year. Or you've got to make a trade.

Or you could do what most of the other teams would do, and take CJ. This choice isn't hard. The fact that it is hard is telling, and not in a good way.

In all seriousness I hope we avoid CJ Stroud like the plague. "I don't take tests I play football." You think lawyers want to take the bar, or doctors want to take the MCAT? No but they do it because it's the most important test of their lives, and you, CJ, just told the medical board to eff off. You just got disbarred and now you cant practice law. All because you didn't take life seriously. What else you not going to study for CJ? Our playbook? Our gameplan? Why, because you're a gamer? The pros isn't just about being an athlete, its about being an astronaut. And right now we all think you're a space cadet. - Throwgod

CJ Stroud looked great against Georgia. Some people are knocking him for ghosting the Mannings' Passing Academy. Some are citing his lack of success under pressure and Lombardi said guys told him he wasn't very coachable in that he looks at the coaches like he doesn't believe them. Young appears to be the most ready to play but we crapped the bed that last game in typical Texans fashion. Some of these other QB's look interesting. Levis has lower odds than Stroud to be picked 1st in BetMGM and Fanduel. They both have strong arms. Richardson might pan out and Hooker as well. The QB drives the bus.

You called it BS. Don’t backtrack now.

I called BS on the "reasoning."

Reasoning was due to being "inaccurate when pressured"

My comment which was very logical, was asking why this is just coming up now when they have been scouting him for over a year.

Also mentioned, that maybe the Texans really are incompetent.....READ THE TEXT. Stop trying to argue lol.

Hard to imagine the Texans telling potential coaches that they are taking a QB only to back track on it right before the draft after giving their LT the biggest raise in the NFL.

Whatever.
