2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

Too much

Perhaps... think of it this way: who would the Texans take at 12... Would you trade that person for Trey Lance and SF's 2nd round pick next year? I probably would, because I don't have a lot of confidence in getting good value at 12 in this draft... I would certainly rather have Trey Lance entering his 3rd season than Hooker, Levis, or Richardson entering their first season.

If we actually don't like Stroud for some reason (which I don't get-I think he is the best QB prospect in the past 3+ years)... but, if we don't like him, I could get on board for a Trey Lance trade. I think it cost something like this: our 12th pick in this draft for Trey Lance + 2024 2nd round pick... and I could get on board with a deal like that. We could reassess after one year with Trey Lance and would have a ton of draft ammunition next year, if needed, to take a QB in what is likely to be a better and deeper QB draft class.
No to trading any of our first three picks. I am not against trading for Lance but nothing that high..

It would be great to have Hooker and Lance but not if I have to give up more than a 3rd round pick for Trey Lance. Just too many good players we could get at pick 12 or 33 for that matter.

You can't put a mod on ignore. Of course they can ban you, the points system doesn't work because a mod can give you 5 points if you say something without quoting him.

I don't know what you're even talking about. Only thing I see on my account is trophy points, which are 0. But I don't care about points. I don't care if a mod likes what I post, or not for that matter. I try my best to follow the rules. If I don't and they want to slap my wrist, so be it. And I'm not going to pick a fight with one. As far as I know, it's a volunteer position, so I respect the mods and thank them for their time. If I don't see eye to eye, I'll let those sleeping dogs lie and move on to the next topic. Not worth getting my ire up over a mod or any other member of the forum.

Keep it light is my advice but you do you. To me, this is the toy box inside the toy store of life so I'm not going to get all worked up over anything on here.

I respect the mods until I have a reason not too. In fact I try to treat all people this way.

Oh well I'm done with this business. If posters want to discuss things with me they can do it by PM. In fact many do, I am going to put out a mock draft and answer all draft related questions and give my thoughts on players next week. I think there will be surprises.

The Texans might be able to get a quarterback at two and draft Lukas Van Ness at #12 or Kancey if LVN is gone, filling both needs. I know Kancey isn't an edge rusher but he might be able to provide a consistent pass rush from the interior.

The Texans will likely be able to address both pass rusher and quarterback in the first round if that's the way they want to go. I'm not a huge fan of Stroud at #2 but drafting either Kancey or LVN at #12 would be a fair trade off. I just really hope they don't draft a QB at #2 and reach for a WR at #12, like so many want them to do.

I don’t want to give away any of those picks for someone’s project that played well in how many starts again was it? If he was worth it he’d be staying put. Nope. Those extra 1’s were come by the hard way. Years of Watson’s BS and the franchise just spinning its wheels netted those picks (along with some well timed Cleveland stupidity). Take your picks. Trade down a bit if you can to get more of them but anyone should be able to find a player in the first 12 choices of just about any draft in memory.

I don’t want anyone that might be able to do something. 2 and 12 have to be very, very good.

Joe Burrow could perform under pressure. Many want to tout Stroud's Natty performance against Georgia, but he was under pressure when he floated a pass that took out his top WR and a BIG reason why OSU lost the game. Stroud also threw an INT at the end of the Michigan game that iced it for the Spartans.
C'mon bro. That wasn't a float, thar was a good pass, defense just made a play in a collision sport. You also left out he played the entire season without JSN too. Stop moving the goalposts. All of these qb at the football factories are playing with elite skill players. Again, Burrow had 2 of the 5 best wrs in the nfl and a 1st rd rb on that lsu squad. He had clean pockets too.

If it wasn’t a floating duck why was everyone initial reaction that Stroud was throwing it away and why did it have a hang time of a punt?

I don't mind the idea of Lance at all. I'd rather have someone like that "for cheap" if we could do it that has NFL seasoning and familiarity with our new coaching staff and system than take a rookie who we really know nothing about. And if it doesn't work out, then you're out less capital than using #2 or #12 and having it bust.

I think it's pretty dumb for people to have made up their minds about Lance anyway given all the situation surrounding him with the Niners.

I’ve argued that same point. Dude has only started 4 NFL games. However, I’m simply going off of Shanahan here. The fact that he’d rather go with Mr. Irrelevant and/or Sam Darnold than Lance gives me caution. And if the ex-9ers contingent here isn’t interested, then that will say a lot too. I guess we’ll know the answer to that soon unless the asking price is just too much, but that still may tell us if they had interest or not.

Very true and very fair.

I'm a semi-Niners fan too and though I didn't watch too much with him, I just get that it often takes more time to really cast the dye about someone.

But yeah, we'll see.

Louisiana-Lafayette WR Michael Jefferson has been released weeks following a head-on collision involving a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol (who was killed in the accident). He will not participate in this year's Draft, where he was expected to be a mid round pick.
