2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

"It is my intention to return to Athens to answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented," Carter said. "There is no question in my mind that when all of the facts are known that I will be fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing."

Bulldogs linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson was also questioned in relation to the Jan. 15 crash after appearing at the scene. Position mate Smael Mondon was reportedly in the car with him. Dumas-Johnson was not charged in relation to this incident but was independently charged with a different street racing violation five days earlier. Link

Makes you suspect that this could be a regular activity among Bulldogs personnel.

Bring in Jimmy - he'll be an upgrade over Mills. Better bolster the line for him and get him a running game and some weapons to throw to.
This will mean a Offense centric draft.

Do you like getting a TE, LaPorta and a WR, Mingo in the 3rd after adding Carter/Anderson?

Carter is being charged with reckless driving and racing. Both are misdemeanors. Carter left the scene but then returned to make statements to the police. He supposedly was racing Leroy at over 100 mph and in, some, traffic.

Isn't this pretty typical behavior in our society today? Look at what happened in Austin last week. Unlikely Texans will be drafting Carter, but is this really so bad?
I remember when Dallas took that LSU olineman ranked high in the first round who had a murder charge hanging over him in the 6th round.
He turned into their franchise RT.
Carter won't last that long but if he's there at #12, I hope Carstereo pulls the trigger.

I'm going the opposite. Bears trade down to a team looking for a QB, and don't draft Carter.
I expect the Texans and the Bears to trade picks because it's more cost effective for the Texans than all other team and this is
Casserio's third Draft and he's expected, probably by the owner (his boss) most of all, to make a strong move to secure a "franchise QB and this may be his best opportunity.

After meeting with the police department and DA these charges could be dropped. If not, Carter's attorney could make a plea with the prosecutor to settle out of court (before the draft). They are misdemeanors so I don't think the punishment will be that severe. Carter could get off with a fine, probation, and/or community service. If this is the case I don't see this having much effect on his draft status with the exception of one Ms. Hannah McNair.

I hate to break this news to you but DeMeco Ryans loves him some 5th, 6th and 7th RD picks. This is his favorite part of the draft. This is contradictive to "I must Trade Up" and "I Must Trade Away Day 3 Picks"

He seems to be able to find productive LB's at that point in the draft. They've got three 6ths for Ryans to find a Greenlaw/Shaair. I bet he can find one. He's already visited with TCU LB Winters.

But you spent the last two years trying to convince this board about how useless Day 3 picks are and such a waste of time and their only use is for trading up. You went to some extraordinary lengths to defend Caserio's complete disregard for Day 3 picks.

The head coach seems to have a different attitude toward these picks. I look forward
to see if this is one of the things that change

"The earlier guys they kind of separate themselves and that's easy to see," Ryans said. "But, where you find value is those fifth, sixth round, seventh round, those picks right there. For me, that's where you dig in and have to truly see what redeeming qualities does that guy have, whether it's speed, physicality, great hands. Whatever that redeeming quality is, can you see something in a kid that you can help him develop and become better? That's where for the 49ers, a guy like Dre Greenlaw, being able to get him late and now to see him play at an All-Pro level. I really pride myself on helping develop him. Azeez Al-Shaair, an undrafted free agent, seeing a physical guy, smart player and being able to help him thrive and develop, those are the guys I truly get excited about late in the Draft."

Probably but also good to remember coaches and GM’s aren’t robots. Mistakes do happen
True but I don't think Ryan slipped. I want to be careful not to interpret something from my point of view that I want to hear or see. He and Nick don't want to give clues.

It's difficult to believe Texans think a rookie can come in here and do better than Mills in the first half of the season at least.
I read they're bringing a vet in.
Not difficult me to believe that any of 3 could do better than meals.

Conflict in the Texans war room. Please stand by for breaking news reports..

Although not drafted by the Texans, lets not forget Tunsil's draft day odyssey. If the Texans are willing to let that moment drift away like smoke in the wind while inking out his massive contract, I think they're willing to look past this thing with Carter.

ABC13 tried to sensationalize the story by announcing "the police issued a warrant for his arrest."
I was under the impression he had already turned himself in...

I think Tunsil’s little hiccup was quite a bit less serious than someone dying and the player leaving the scene/lying about it. Possibly local PD even tried to cover it up?!

Carter has already explained why he and some of his teammates were gassed. There was a 30-day layoff before the Ohio St game and the team was not as dedicated as they should have been. Probably why OSU played them closer than they should have. Carter said they made up for it the next week and you and TCU saw the results.

You cannot be a shirker if you can bench 225 LBS 40+, vertical jump mid-30s, and run a 4.8 while weighing over 300 LBS. All of his teammates have been effusive in their praise of Carter. Waiting to work out at his Pro Day gives him more time to train. Can't blame him. A lot of money is riding on it.

He did have 31 QB pressures. Why a IDL (Carter often lined up in the 0 tech) only had 4 sacks? For teams that played UGA, their OC design plays that get the ball out of the QB hands in < 3 secs. BTW UGA did get pressure on Stroud 6-7 times and in those situations, Stroud was the Stroud everyone says he is, doesn't perform well under pressure.
You sound you did when Walker came out last year and he was a dud. I don't care, if you're a dominant college interior lineman, be that. Be Suh, Sapp, or even McCoy. He was none of the above. If the Jaguars hadn't gotten smart, they would have Hutchinson who is light years past Walker.

3, but who's counting?

You do your best to apologize for Carter. I'm sure Drew Rosenhaus does the same. If it's strictly a beauty contest, Jalen Carter wins. Give him his roses and crown his arse. But if I'm spending a top 4 pick, I need to know I'm getting an uber talented player that will bust his rear, down after down like an UDFA. I want Aaron Donald. JJ Watt. Not a guy half arsing it.
The best idl is the kid from Pittsburgh and its not really even close. Not to mention he has production and is an all day sucker.

It's not the only use, but it's one way to use them to move up and improve the chances of getting a difference maker.

Have the Texans had plenty of late rd picks over the last 2 years?

Collins? Hell, I think he went undrafted if I remember

Ravens had 4 or 5 4th rd picks last year because there was a glob of talent in those areas.

You need to pay better attention. FTR I said I would pass on Walker and would not draft him. If you’re going to try and get it right, then get it right. Don’t half ass it. I was a fan of Jordan Davis and DeVonte Wyatt too. If you can’t appreciate their athleticism, something is wrong with you.

So you’re now adding a second verse to the song you have been singing for the last two years?

The thing about having late round picks on a team that needs talent like the Texans is you can just draft them and have on your roster. I stated the yr 1 of rebuild this team should've been stacked with undrafted and late rd picks already. There are always guys like that who can and should make sorry rosters and add some value. Like the coach said, look for guys with a special skill of some kind and develop him. Why waste time on a 30 yr rb when college football produces 100 of those guys every year who can play?

Nope

I'm still a quality over quantity guy.

Also you didn't answer my question, haven't the Texans had plenty of laterd picks over the last couple of years?

This does not play well for Carter. Another high speeding incident last Sept.

Should have a radar detector.

Kids, and not kids, have been souping up cars and racing since before I was a kid in the 60's.
