2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

Nope

I'm still a quality over quantity guy.

Also you didn't answer my question, haven't the Texans had plenty of laterd picks over the last couple of years?
Certainly not as many as they started with. In a draft where day 3 is loaded the facilitator punted.

Nope,

Carter was in one car driving, she was in the other car driving. She hit a curb, light pole and trees. Killing her and Carter's teammate.

Not according to police report.:

“The investigation found that Chandler LeCroy, driver of the 2021 Ford Expedition and Jalen Carter, driver of a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, were operating their vehicles in a manner consistent with racing shortly after leaving the downtown Athens area at about 2:30 AM” the day of the crash, police said in a news release.8 hours ago

FTR Jalen Carter is #1 on my draft board and has been since the draft last year. IMHO I think the Texans would make a grave mistake passing on Jalen Carter. Imagine for a moment if the Texans had drafted Jordan Davis last year at #13. The Texans would have the best DL in the NFL. When I've said the Texans will waste the Watson ransom, this is what I mean.
I’m going to retract the above statement for the time being. Basing my decision on consistent poor decision making and not learning from his mistakes. Because of his superior athleticism he behaves as thou he is above the law and is entitled. Will Anderson is now #1 on my board. Let’s see how he runs.

Sure, me too, though not professionally. But there has always been street racing, and tickets when you get caught. Going fast is something you can't put a stop to.
Yeh, for so many years.......just like the regular weekend night street race gatherings on Westheimer in the 80's, which the police didn't put an end to for years. :mcnugget:

Athens-Clarke County Jail records show that Carter turned himself in and was booked at 11:33 p.m. ET on last night and that he was released at 11:49 p.m. He posted bonds totaling $4,000 before being released......... the reckless driving charge carried a $1,500 bond while the racing charge carried $2,500.

No seatbelts and yes open liquor containers were legal. I had some great classic cars. Houston was big city fast driven got most of my speeding tickets when moved to San Antone everyone drove slower and I thought I was normal lol.

Texans draft "the system is built around the quarterback as opposed to trying to fit a quarterback into a certain system." So there lies which QB will work with this system. I'm not that football coach good about describing our detailed type offensive system

Sounded to me they're going to take the best QB available and build a supporting cast around him according to his abilities and propensities.

What is incorrect? Chandler was the woman.

Best QB available for that system within different opinions. Ryans also noted that the Texans only have one quarterback, Davis Mills, on the roster and will need to add two more. Is it possible they will draft 2 QBs? Thinking that at least 1 out of the 2 will be very franchise successful js.

Something I've found re. Carter and bothers me at least as much as the recent revelations is that he has had a Clowney-like work ethic. Skipped practices often, paid little attention to putting work into his conditioning, and took off plays during games.
From the Athletic article you posted there may be a tell tell sign from his DL coach. When he was asked about Carter's vertical and bench press, he said (paraphrased), Jalen could jump mid 30s, if he wants to. Jalen could bench 40+ times if he wants, 50+ times if he wants to. Which now makes me wonder does Carter have A Want To problem? Seems he may or why would his coach mention it? I was against drafting Clowney based on Spurrier's comments. The same holds true for Carter.

I've never raced but in my youth I have been behind the wheel a few times seeing how fast the automobile would go.

Back in the day cars were heavy made of mostly steel and hard material some aluminum. No seat belts and large steering wheels. The steering wheel and the dashboard was made of metal. Cars of now are mostly plastic n fiberglass and with collision drop engines down and lighter for better gas mileage. Add the powerful more efficient engines and the car will fly. Hitting hard larger vehicles n objects are drastic. The seat belts and airbags themselves can cause deaths. I see this small 4 cyl cars revved up and speeding and the power and weight surpasses the car itself. Also always get a confusing kick out of all speedometers going up to 120 mph.

How’s that a straw man’s argument?
I don’t think a straw man is doing the arguing, I think you’ve created a straw man to argue against. Nobody- and I mean nobody- is saying that they we’re perfect when they were younger, or that young people don’t make mistakes.

Young people make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean those mistakes should be forgotten or ignored.

Chandler LeCroy was the woman driving the other car.

Where did I say anything about it should be forgotten or ignored. I’m just pointing out we’ve all have done stupid things before.
So it sounds like you’ve forgotten what you have done at that age. And now we want to act like we’re perfect around this camp.

Agree.
People living in glass houses...

I don’t know if we’ll get him, but I love this guys hands. He be a great addition for our new QB
He suffered a mild compression lumbar vertebral fracture on November 26th when a defender landed on him. He played through it the next game. However, he missed the Rose Bowl and will miss the Combine while rehabbing. Expect someone to bring this up to bring down his Draft value. But this particular type of fracture should have no effect on his long-term performance and/or longevity in general. Unless the Combine reveals any additional damage, he should maintain his potential high draft position.

He did suffer a grade I A/C shoulder injury earlier last season but played through it the rest of the year. His only other injury that I'm aware of dates back to HS, when he suffered a fractured collar bone.

I'm guessing they will hedge their bets and take best QB system fit available from the draft and FA.
I don't think you bring in a specific OC and then bring in QBs who are totally unfamiliar with his vision/system.
I'm guessing they try and find QB's that are very similar, so they don't have to try and change the offense every time someone gets hurt, and they have to change the QB.

Yeah, I was in the same boat on Clowney. This bothers me about Carter as well. I'm guessing after this incident, Carter now falls. If he falls to 1.12, would you be willing to take Carter? I'm out on him at 1.2, but if he falls to 1.12, I'd have a hard time not taking him. Since I'm not taking a QB at 1.2, if Da'Bears take Anderson at 1.1, I want to trade down a few picks and take Tyree Wilson or Myles Murphy. I like Murphy because he has the size to be a run stopper, while also having the speed to be a pass rusher.

I find it highly likely that almost everyone here has tested out the need for speed.
