If Levis was the QB people want him to be he would've never left Penn St.
Joe Burrow says hi!If Levis was the QB people want him to be he would've never left Penn St.
I was on PFF and ran a few different mocks. In one, the Bears took Will Anderson. I traded #2 to the Colts for... their entire draft. Seriously. They gave me all the picks. They took Young and I took Levis. It was insane.
And then instead of hitting save png, I hit the button to do another mock. So all the evidence of that disappeared.

This is comically back loaded and I love it. We’d have like 30+players on rookie deals if they all made the rosterI just did it again:

Yeah I’d probably say if somehow a monstrosity like this ever came to be you’d be better off just selling most of the 5th’s, 6th, and 7th’s for an extra couple 3rd or 4th’s if you could make that happenIt's hilarious. But I just kept adding picks to the trade and they kept accepting them. I could have gotten their first pick from 2024 as well but I would have had to have given up the second rounder this year.
But, yeah, this is just wrong on so many levels. If I knew more about the players and targetted specific ones, I could have packaged a bunch of those later round picks to go up and get some folks.
Joe Burrow won a national championship, Levis did not. If you like Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett then of course, you are going to love Will Levis.Joe Burrow says hi!

Only if scenario a team jumps the Texans for #1 QB pick then they could pick Jalen Carter #2 then do #12 QB ie Levis. They improve both sides without giving anything up.Levis is going to be good, but he needs time to learn and polish his game. I think Cal would force him into action by mid season if we pick him. Could he be ready...not sure. I see him and Richardson as similar to Mahomes. Oddly, he both are listed with similar issues, Richardson with more. But, both improv throws, can toss a ball 60yrds off platform, throw sidearm off balance and more. I think Richardson will be the best QB in the class IF he can get his head in it and put in the work to get there. Levis is pretty close behind in talent and is going to blow the combine apart. After the combine I'm better QB order is Levis, Stroud and Young and Richardson could potentially swap spots if he can impress in both interviews and on field.
Just say no to Van Ness in the 1st. Mid 2nd, maybe. He's too light to play DT, and too slow to play pass rush DE. He might be a decent run stopping DE, but you'd have to bring in a pass rusher for passing situations. Zach Harrison from Ohio State is about the same size, but much faster. Either way, I wouldn't take either one unless we trade back from 2.33.If Van Ness tests like I think they will, I'm on board with him at 1-12.
Hughes/Collins/Carter/Hughes
Defense definitely improves.
Actually this scenario is my preference at present: Pick non-QB (or trade down) @ 2 and take QB btw #33 and #12. If one of Levis or Richardson fall a little bit, you have a talented developmental prospect you can take your time with as the team grows. I don't want Stroud, and I guess I could be ok with Young, but definitely not trading up to #1. This plan makes the most sense, although there's risk if QBs go on a run 1-11 before Texans pick again.Only if scenario a team jumps the Texans for #1 QB pick then they could pick Jalen Carter #2 then do #12 QB ie Levis. They improve both sides without giving anything up.
No offense TB51. We all got opinions & they all stink. Here’s mine.Only if scenario a team jumps the Texans for #1 QB pick then they could pick Jalen Carter #2 then do #12 QB ie Levis. They improve both sides without giving anything up.
Great post. I think Caserio is too smart to fall in this trap, because his fate as Texans GM will likely reside to the success or failure of the incumbent lottery QB. If he deems Young 'the guy' and some team trades up to #1 to take Young, and he is unavailable at #2, I don't see Caesrio settling 'just because'.No offense TB51. there ain’t 3 or 4 franchise QBs in this draft. I seriously doubt there are two. & the one most likely to be a franchise QB could double for Erkel. So there’s a strong possibility there isn’t one franchise QB in this draft.
But all it takes is for Nick Caserio to fall in love with one of them.
I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t have a problem with Caserio falling in love with one most people are not thinking is the most likely franchise QB.
But I expect that attitude to look more like what we see from @OptimisticTexan. Couldn’t care less about when the other guys are taken. He’s aiming for one guy & if that guy is gone, plan B looks more like a late round flyer.
So if I think Young is a franchise QB & I don’t get him, I’m not drafting the next best guy because I “need” a QB.
I need to build a team. Drafting well, which is what we need Caserio to do, is not taking a flyer with a 1st round pick.
If you think Levis is the guy, go get him. If you think Stroud is your guy, go get him.
But I’m not down with if I don’t get “A” I’ll take “B” or maybe “C”
Hopefully he will be covering all his bases for a QB in the draft and in FA. It could get real crazy at the top with a mad scramble for the QBs, so a smart GM will have a couple of FAs on his radar in case it gets too rich for him.Great post. That said, I think he's taking a QB 100%. But he's got 5 plausible options and no consensus, so it could make sense to slow play this. Good year to do this with the hiring of Ryans, under the guise of wanting to build a premium defense.
In the end, I don't believe Caserio will settle at #2 for QB at all costs. It has to be his guy. His job depends on getting this right, or deferring to 2024 and getting this right with the team in a better position.
TBF, Pickett did pretty well 75% PFF and desperately needing LG and WR targets. He dhould do much better this season.Joe Burrow won a national championship, Levis did not. If you like Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett then of course, you are going to love Will Levis.
Perhaps if GMs draft on combine results. I don’t think most do. Caserio recently said drills are important but he focuses on talks with players and GAMETAPE. Emphasis his.Levis is going to be good, but he needs time to learn and polish his game. I think Cal would force him into action by mid season if we pick him. Could he be ready...not sure. Nobody should change their evals after the combine. The combine is suppose to be used in conjuction with game film. Alot of guys can't carry their pads.Perhaps if GMs draft on combine results. I just don’t see Caserio drafting [his] guys. I think he will 100% listen to all his coaches AND scouting dept. He might be the final answer. I know Cal (more Janice IMO) wants QB but if Caserio, Demeco and Slowick bring the info to go Anderson or trade down, Cal will listen.Great post. I think we're taking a QB. But the good thing this year is there is 5 guys who are pretty close together in terms of talent, with their own strengths/weaknesses, which is why there is no consensus. With the Texans also picking #12, they should walk away with somebody.Hopefully he will be covering all his bases for a QB in the draft and in FA. It could get real crazy at the top with a mad scramble for the QBs, so a smart GM will have a couple of FAs on his radar in case it gets too rich for him.
I'd like to think we have a strong GM who assess all the information from his staff and makes the final call. Sucks to have an owner that meddles to much. I really don't have a good sense on how much decision power Caserio has or does not have. Should be the GMs decision ideally.I just don’t see Caserio drafting [his] guys. I am the other way prefering strong HC going to GM with guys he wants and how can he coach them up and play them. For me, GM input is for cap purposes and trade negotiations and contracts. A great capologist with relationships with other teams and no GM needed.I'd like to think we have a strong GM who assess all the information from his staff and makes the final call. Our coaches should be able to choose from the three QBs that seem to fit Slowik system and make them a QB that can take us to SB in 3-4 years with solid off-season.I think we're taking a QB. Interesting viewpoint. I wonder what type of structure is the most optimal. Guessing both can be effective. Probably many examples of both models working, although more strong head coaches succeeding as you describe stand out to me on second thought.I am the other way prefering strong HC going to GM with guys he wants and how can he coach them up and play them. Unfortunately the boardroom doesn't operate this way.I'd like to think we have a strong GM who assess all the information from his staff and makes the final call. So you really think Ryans is calling the shot on player personnel?Ryans will get the final call. Caserio's job is to do what it takes to get the players Ryans wants.
Haha. I think he meant REAL coach.like lovie with Stingley???
Why did you ignore and not highlight strong? Do you consider Lovie Smith a strong HC? If he was, he'd still be here.like lovie with Stingley???
If you mean the game tape, i disagree. Most GMs have minimal if any experience on player eval. And Belichick is an outlier like Sean Payton. I do not care what Nick caserio thinks about getting tape. The GM also needs to grind the tape of the guys the HC wants.
Other than (maybe) pick 2, I do. Caserio is "staying out of the way".So you really think Ryans is calling the shot on player personnel?

No. Caserio is in contact with all the other GM's and is exclusively involved with trade discussions. I'm of the mind that he will be the one whether to pull the trigger on a trade, after discussing with DeMeco. He will be heavily involved with the first two picks, but first round strategy will be discussed before hand to anticipate possible scenarios.Other than (maybe) pick 2, I do. Caserio is "staying out of the way".

100% evals change on some people in the combine based on measurables. The strength tests for OL/DL is extremely important, as are 40 speeds on the record. These can change perceptions and ratify or diminish the strength of game film. I'm looking forward to it.The reaction I have seen from ex-Gms when a player is faster or slower (or mismatches from workouts) that expected is "I need to go back and look at the tape on this guy"
Van Ness is 21. I don't know exactly what size he'll be when he fills out, but NFL scouts have a good idea. You have to separate young players from the 23-24 year olds that are maxed out.Just say no to Van Ness in the 1st. Mid 2nd, maybe. He's too light to play DT
Perhaps but i think most teams wanting QB will resolve issue before late round one. Maybe Seattle round two but I would say no. Spending $30+ million for Geno they should use high pick to support Smith.A big issue the Texans will face if waiting for their QB @33 is it becomes easy for someone to jump ahead of them.
I don’t want to force a QB pick this year if the guy they want isn’t there, but if they really like someone at the top of the 2nd round, then we need to be at peace with them trading up and then reaching for whoever that is.
