2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

If the Texans trade back from 2…..then I want it to be with the Raiders.

I want their RD1-007, DE- Maxx Crosby, and their 2024 RD1.

With the 7th pick….no hesitation at all. QB- Hendon Hooker (Tennessee).

QB- Check

Here’s where it could get really exciting. Texans would have (3) RD1 picks in 2024, and answered their QB need in 2023. With a decent finish and a nice QB class in 2024, they could be sellers again while stocking up some serious draft capital for the immediate 2024 draft and 2025.

And what if you finish with the 4th worst record in the league and Chicago, Tenesseee, Indy, etc is at number 1.

They would trade their QB away for Peanuts and take Caleb Williams while ignoring your phone calls. May even be the same case for Drake Maye at 2 overall.

Can't punt to next year imo.

God, I just hope the Texans throw what looks like a Curveball and grab Stroud.

People credit all his weapons, but in the Rosebowl against Utah St, he dominated without Olave and Wilson.

Pick apart Georgia even without Harrison and JSN...

I am pretty sold on him being a top 10 QB as his throwing ability really reminds me of Joe Burrow.

AR would be my 2nd choice. I just don't think they can punt on QB.

The Raiders aren’t giving up Crosby. Lol

A down year for the Round 1 WRs
The common theme I'm hearing is this is not a very good draft class in general. I usually ask teams leading up to the draft how many first-round grades they have on guys, and in most years the answers fall in the 21-25 range. This year, I'm hearing a lot of 14s, 15s, 16s and even lower in a couple of cases. So, rough overall ... but especially so at wide receiver.

For proof, look no further than the Pittsburgh Steelers -- a team known for drafting and developing their own wide receivers with consistent success -- who just traded for a 29-year-old Allen Robinson, who has caught a total of 71 balls the past two years. Don't get me wrong; there will be some wideouts drafted in the first round. But more than in recent years, teams seem skeptical of finding instant-impact solutions at that position in this year's draft. -- Graziano

Is Tyree Wilson over Will Anderson Jr. legit?
Anderson has been one of the top college players for the past three seasons, played for Nick Saban and has "no red flags," according to a league source. But Wilson's traits and upside have teams intrigued, perhaps even enough to draft him ahead of the Alabama star.

"A lot of people think Tyree Wilson's the best outside 'backer," an NFL assistant said. "The NFL is always looking for those freaky trait guys, and Will

Anderson's not a freaky trait [guy], but I'd say he's a freaky football player."

The coach noted Anderson played more 4i technique last season -- lining up on the inside shoulder of an offensive tackle -- which led to less impressive numbers than he had in 2021. A Big 12 offensive coordinator said Wilson didn't jump out on scouting reports until last season, but he has risen rapidly. -- Rittenberg

I have had a few teams tell me there is concern about Wilson's foot injury continuing to cause him problems going forward -- he didn't do the athletic testing or on-field drills at the combine -- and as a result some teams are leery of the idea of committing a high pick to him. Now, of course, none of that matters if Houston likes him enough to take him at No. 2, but it's something to watch in case Wilson tumbles further than you expect and you're wondering why.

The best way this was described to me was, "it's a risk tolerance thing," meaning Wilson might have an issue with the foot but is such a talent that he's probably worth taking the chance on. One front-office executive described Wilson's physical frame to me like this: "He looks like he could tie his shoes standing up." -- Graziano

Wilson being selected ahead of Anderson is a very real possibility. Similar to what happened when Travon Walker went No. 1 overall ahead of Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux last year, many NFL front offices and scouting departments value upside and potential over the more polished player today. There are many around the league who feel Wilson has tons of upside. With his timeline of development at its peak possibly 1-2 years from now, Wilson fits into the Texans' rebuild plan of allowing him to improve on a team full of young players. -- Reid

I rather the Texans get Stroud and Nolan Smith or Myles Murphy if they pass on Anderson. If they pick Wilson I think I’ll be disappointed.

Wilson passed the Texans physical. But Wilson did not pass every team's physical.

Nothing surprising there. Sounds like 1.2 to me.

There are two ways to read that. Taking it literally per the English language, it would mean that other players did not pass a physical with the Texans.

Taken the way I think Breer means, Tyree didn't pass other teams' physicals. But that interpretation is a guess.

Maybe not the best written sentence ever. But it's obvious he's speaking about Wilson's physicals, and not everyone did pass Wilson.

Looks like Bryce is going number 1.

No confirmation on his agent, but Jalen Hurts former Bama QB's agent has come on twitter saying she has signed the Number 1 Pick for 2023.

Nick likes to draft damaged goods that when healthy aren't even considered the best player available.

Literal definition of OVER THINKING things.

I will say, that Wilson's tape is better than Anderson's. You can see the upside. His biggest issue is his get off on the snap.

Three possibilities IMO for face of team and we can have all three possibly.

Will Anderson a sacker and disruptor; impressively so if his 'down' year last season was Will protecting himself for NFL. If he did and picked 1.2 , it was beautiful strategm.

Bijan Robinson size and speed of a strong WR who fills slot in support of Metchie and outside occasionally with good hands, speed and bulk to absorb tackles from DBs. As an RB he can block for Pierce, Singletary and QB. A Texas boy to appeal to immense, diverse groups of fans.

Hooker quiets grumbles somewhat for not taking QB first two choices. Fans will rally around whomever the signal caller is.

Three faces, three possible superstars.

I doubt Hooker makes it to a reasonable trade up position. Even if he does, you have to figure if it would be worth the picks to do so.

Loved Hooker in college, like him better than Levis (though that isn't saying much). Still, he's old, injured, and comes from a gimmicky college offense.

Nicole Lynn doing extremely well:

Queenen Williams negotiation on now. Hurts $51 m per year with another ~24 in incentives. Will Anderson. Bijan Robinson. And now maybe Young?

Not interested in Hooker but the rest of your suggestion is interesting. 7th pick in that scenario is still going to be a really nice spot and three 1's next year will give you the flexibility you need to draft your QB. I'd grab Bijan Robinson with one of the two and the best remaining DE/edge with the other. Then I turn Mills or Keenum loose in 2023 with a beast of running game, a retooled defense, and the knowledge that it's still going to only end up netting 5-7 wins at best.

I think Hook is available round two. Your last sentence has been addressed at length by myself and others. 10-12 years NFL is good; injury should be no issue going forward; Tennessee fit him into their system nothing indicates he cannot read entire field or trained to do so. He did well at Virginia Tech before transferring to Tennessee.

I just don't think that Cal will draft a guy that high who is represented by the same guy who was involved in the entire Watson "experience". I think that will make him and the Texans extremely averse to that player. Not agreeing or disagreeing but I think it will be a factor in the decision.

Said it last night, but my tinfoil hat theory is that Stroud was Nick/DeMeco's guy until about two weeks ago, when the McNairs decided to cancel the whole thing due to the agent.

If they weren't going QB at 2, then doing nothing to fix the QB situation pre draft is beyond stupid.

Personally, this is the type of guy I want leading the team.

Confident, owns up to what he isn't good at, and a little cockiness.

Has a clear competitive Edge to him.
I just think Stroud is the 2nd best QB in this draft. And he could prove me wrong and be the best. I don't think Stroud has the tools Trevor Lawrence had coming out. But he played as well as Lawrence did in college. For me, this pick is a no brainer. And if ownership can't get past the agent thing, they should have traded for the 1st pick when they had the chance.
