2021 NFL Draft

With all of the speculation and rumors about DW4 going else where the 2021 NFL Draft sure got a lot more interesting for Texans fans,
which is good 'cause it was gonna be a very boring 2020-21 offseason. But not anymore !

I agree with you that they listed players that would likely be gone.

So Humphrey would be your pick? I like him, but I have a feeling we go defense with our first pick.

Yes

I have that feeling too.

Although Caserio would be wise to just go BPA and get the best players possible since they wont be picking until the 3rd rd. If the BPA is a OL/WR/RB you take him and be thankful you were able to get a quality starter that late in the draft. Kind of like they did with Reid.

I wouldn’t mind BPA. We have so many needs it’d most likely be beneficial anyways.

If you look at past drafts, the value in this area is in non-marquee positions. Like RB, IOL, ILB, and safety.

2021 NFL Scouting Combine List

OK, it's not actually a combine with field events. But, this is the list of players that would have been in Indy. Also, Lance Zierlein has write ups on most of the players. Still not finished, though.

Simms QB Rankings

Simms has Mond as #4 QB. If by chance the FO doesn’t trade DW4, would you draft Mond?

I actually Mocked Monds to the Texans as a late pick. Some on here didn't like it but I think he possesses the tangibles to at least draft him as a QB3 Project to be developed properly over a couple of seasons before putting him not the competition. He'd have 2 seasons left on his contract at that point....worse case scenario, he remains the teams QB2 for a couple of contract cycles.

How late did you take him?
He might be taken in Rds 2-4

From Port Arthur

2 time 200 meter sprint champion

Sign me up, hopefully he lasts until the 3rd rd. I really wouldn't mind picking a guy like Rochell at the top of the 3rd and using the Cards 4th and Texans 5th to trade back into the 3rd for this Vincent. Two of the fastest players in this draft. Put these guys with Roby and the secondary gets much better very quickly.

What do you guys think about North Carolina running back Javonte Williams? He's turned it around really good this year average 7.26 running and over 12 receiving.
I loved this guy as noted in 2020. He keeps moving up the rankings though I was hoping to get him in round three. Don't see that happening now. He's very similar in my opinion to Najee Harris.

PFF has him at #58 on their draft board. I think he goes in the first half of RD 2.

This guy has the chance to be the best RB in this class. IMHO

He probably wont get drafted until the 2nd rd.
BIGGEST RISER: JAVONTE WILLIAMS, NORTH CAROLINA
Javonte Williams led North Carolina’s Wallace-Rose Hill High School to its fourth consecutive title as a senior, as he earned MVP honors in the title game and totaled 2,271 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on the year (2017). He also won a track and field state title in the 4×100-meter relay in 2016. However, Williams didn’t receive a ton of offers as part of the 2018 class.

He was tagged as just a three-star recruit and saw scholarship interest from only FCS and Ivy League schools. Following his standout performance in the title game, he made a visit to North Carolina and received an offer. He accepted it quickly and enrolled early.

PFF's 2021 NFL Draft uide

There was no bigger riser at the running back position in 2020 than Williams. After putting on 15 pounds in two years, Williams added an explosive element to his game we hadn't seen in the past. He broke the PFF record for broken tackles per attempt (0.48), and his 75 broken tackles led the country. His 95.9 rushing grade was also far and away the highest we've seen in a single season. That elusiveness translated after the catch as a receiver as well, where he broke nine tackles on 24 receptions. There's really not much to dislike about Williams as a prospect.

NFL player comparison: A bigger Aaron Jones

Biggest strength: Violent running style

Biggest weakness: Workload

Projection: Second-round pick

Bottom line: Williams has special tackle-breaking ability that will almost
certainly translate to the NFL at his size.

Trade Watson....use a RD2 on Williams, a RD4 on Trey Sermon, sign UFA Le’Veon Bell and let this group join David Johnson and the RB situation with the Texans will have been addressed for the foreseeable future.

How do you feel about pff's rankings vs where the players will actually be drafted.
PFF rankings are analytical and do not necessarily take into account team needs or holes. Therefore actual draft by teams will not match up with PFF rankings since most teams do, thou they say they don't, draft for need. PFF rankings are based on actual on field production, something scout/draftniks do not take into account to the level PFF does. PFF has some pretty smart mathematical analytical wiz kids working for them. PFF is part owned by Chris Collinsworth so the PFF scouts are getting well schooled in NFL. All 32 teams subscribe to PFF. You get access to a lot of info for $40 a yr. The Elite package is $199, for the betting crowd

PFF has its place,

But scouts take traits into account more than what a kid did in college.

So does PFF. They know high school stats, star ratings, # of recruitment letters, injuries. Pretty darn thorough. Unless you have actually subscribed to PFF and have perused and used the site you probably don't know just how thorough they are. I have yet to find a anyone who provides as much info as PFF, from Kiper on down. I imagine all NFL scouting departments use PFF to a large degree.

It is going to be interesting to see how the Texans new management see players like reworked David Johnson. If as I expect they see him as their number one starter we may not go running back until day 3 Johnson was not that bad he just was not as good as I had hoped for. Was that on him or play calling? Perhaps they do see their new offensive line coach improving those players.

Keeping Johnson is beginning to confirm my fears of the ineptitude of new management.

Why do you keep saying $2 million? Johnson will make $6 million in 2021, $4 million more than he would have if cut.

The Texans leading rusher in 2021 probably isn't on the team, yet. This was $4 million wasted, and we all know why.

He keeps saying 2 million b/c only 4 of his 6 is GTD which is obviously 2 million over what he would've recieved if he'd been cut.

You and 76 lol.....falling for the fools gold thinking you're gonna get something much better or equivalent for cheaper. who in your mind that's out there would CLEARLY be an upgrade that you're certain would sign for what DJ signed for? Please don't name off an incoming rookie or some obscure dude from the SWAC noone's ever heard of a:, b/c those guys will have proven nothing in the league and thereby can't CLEARLY be thought of as upgrades or even equivalents to what DJ brought us and b:, you don't even know if they'd come here.
Here's the list of guys for you to reference.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/sort-value/running-back/free-agent-2021/limit-100/

Please also elaborate on what "we all know" about why his contract was "wasted"? It's perfectly in line with what this team should be doing right now......cutting guys with ridiculous contracts & signing guys to reasonable contracts that likely won't be here in a few years or mess this team's cap situation up in the coming years. NC was able to achieve both of those with restructuring DJ's contract down to a 3rd of what he would've recieved.

The way i see it....& probably NC as well is none of The top 15 FA backs this year are likely to sign for that & we don't need to be dropping any more than we did for a RB period. I also can't see us wasting any of our draft picks this year on a RB and before his signing all we had on the roster was Buddy Howell.
