I am going to a slight edit to the title. If I am coming for actual news i really don't fish through fantasy owner/GM stuff
Don't really see the need to edit the title based on your personal opinion. This is a message board where ideas and football are discussed. Everything written here is just opinion. Somehow, you must've mistaken everyone on this site for sports journalist who have inroads to inside information and have chosen Texans Talk as their media outlet. Man, if you want to share an idea, do so.....if you don't, then just move along.

Based on your stringent insight, how do you explain the Fantasy Football Leagues or Mock Draft sections? Funny, I've yet to hear anyone on ESPN NFL Fantasy use TT as insight or a GM reference their selections back to the TT insight.

There is a difference in a thread discussing Jim Caldwell actually being interviewed over what OptimisticTexan would do if he were in charge.

Your first post is all about the 2nd and used the term 'complete' as though it were based on facts versus all your opinion. It does matter to other posters.

I am open to another mod(s) seeing different and changing to back "complete." Not some crazy abuse of power stuff or anything, just guiding readers who are not as interested in your opinion as you are.

That's funny, I take the time to try and read every opinion posted.....see, from our position in this world of Texans sports.......that's all we have is our opinion and written stories by writers that we either believe as gospel speakers or opinion speakers. Not the end of the world to sit around discussing what-if's and opinions....it's actually one of my favorite things to do.

You could drop fantasy and use proposed......but on the other hand, most posters wouldn't confuse my post for inside information or truth. I stated pretty much from the get-go that I looked forward to other folks ideas.

BMac should be in 2021 PLAYERS RESTRUCTURE, TRADE or CUT as a CUT: $8.5M Cap number. $1.5M Dead money. $7M Savings.
Brandon Dunn should in 2021 PLAYERS RESTRUCTURE, TRADE or CUT as a CUT. $4.25M Cap number. $1M Dead money. $3.25M Savings
Scarlett is a UFA in the offseason, so should NOT be on 2021 PLAYERS RESTRUCTURE, TRADE or CUT list. He makes $2M this year.

Mercilus is a pipe dream at this point. His Dead money is higher than his Cap number for 2021. We're stuck paying him whether he plays in 2021 or not.
If he can rehab and be effective again, keep him for 2021, and then cut him after the season and save $11.5M before the 2022 season.

Fells is a keep or cut case. He's on the books for $2.8M next year (500K dead money), and will be 36 after next season. No restructure, just keep or cut. Akins and Waring are signed for 2021, and Pharoah Brown is a RFA...so we do likely have depth.

I don't see a problem with the edit to semantics. It's just a simple request for clarity.

Don’t even try. These guys are on power trips. Might get banned if you keep poking around.
Please elaborate on the power trips and bannings. You can even PM me your thoughts and examples.

Great thread. Just some comments now at midnight. Sleepy and brain dead:

WR Hensen must extend.
I want none of your proposed FA.
3rd round RB Javonte Williams N.C
4a CB Josh Jobe Alabama
4b CB Grabbed some N'Western

Missed Hensen....and yes, Hensen is absolutely back in my book, for at least 2-3 seasons.

I've seen Williams stock getting a stronger and I suspect after the Combine, he's probably going in RD2.

Jobs is looking like a solid RD3 CB.

I'd drop Gordon from the list since he can't seem to shake or outrun his demons. I'd make a play for Antonio Brown since he could step in immediately and become the Texans WR1. I know both Le'Veon Bell and Leonard Fournette could be signed to prove-it type of deals and delivers a better runnng game for 2021.

I believe Harbaugh is making the required move or moves to remain at Michigan. I sure would like to pilfer their OL Coach to see if he could salvage this group.

Nico Collins is a sleeper. 6' 5 215 with very big hands. 4.45 speed and amazing jump ball ability. Big DBs can throw him off his route, but at his size... not many DBs his size

I'd seen where he should be there in RD5 but if he pops a 4.45-40 instead of his current time of 4.52....he'll be gone in RD2 or RD3. If he was still on the board in RD4, it'd be really tough to skip over him. Could you imagine this guy coming into the 2022 season at 230 lbs with no loss of speed?

I'm a solid believer in Najee Harris however, there are too many good running backs available After the third round without having to lose the other pics. We just need too much with our first three picks. I still hope to get left Tackle Carmon Jackson with our third round pick. RB Javonte Williams has comparable stats to Najee and most do not have him in the top four round. For now he's still floating under-the-radar although a good 40 at the combine will grab attention.

Yeah I get that, not wanting to trade more picks, but I think Harris is a SURE thing and we need some of those on this team. He's the big bruising back with decent speed that transforms this offense into a very dangerous one if we keep Cooks and resign Fuller for Watson. Harris would make the OL look better because teams would have to respite run a whole lot more than now.
It's not gonna happen anyway. Us Texans fans don't get to have too many nice things at once.

Harris wont be there, but his backup Bryan Robinson is very close to Harris talentwise. You can probably get him in the 4th or 5th rd.

I hope that those watching the Ohio State - Clemson game can see why I've put Ohio State, RB- Trey Sermon on my radar. I've got him selected in RD6 but there's no doubt that his stock could make him an easy RD5 pick. Texans have an early enough RD5 but 2 rounds of COMP Picks could move him into a RD4 pick. I could still justify a late RD4 pick for him.

Robert Saleh all we need. players play hard for him.
I like him a lot but I think he’s a lock for Detroit. I was all in on Bieniemy but have started to lean Dabol. I’ve read several player interviews where they were impressed with his leadership off the field as much as his on field coaching. I think that’s the most important quality a HC can have.

Also I haven’t seen anyone here talk about maybe hiring Marvin Lewis as DC. I know he’s looking for a head job but there are only so many. Maybe he would like to just get back to coaching and see it as a springboard back to the top.

theres another name familiar around here who is a prime candidate to replace Saleh as DC in SF in Dameco Ryan’s. He seems to have made quite an impression in SF.

Texans will never amount to squat with ownership in charge. Everyone is frustrated and it shows. OptimisticTexan has always been, well optimistic. Like your spirit and effort in the face of adversity!
I took a knee on the NFL when the NFL took a knee on me. Therefore my knowledge today of players and salaries is somewhat lacking. However I've found that none of this matters because the McNairs still own the team and Cal McNair is CEO. History has shown us that a McNair football team is constant achiever of average and ordinary. Unless of course @Thorn blind squirrel can find that damn nut while blowing lightning out his hiney.

There are shittons of squirrels in my apartment complex, none of them are blind and none that I've seen are wearing Texan jerseys. This scientific observation leads me to believe the Texans organization isn't worth crap.

Another thing to consider is bringing in Daboll, Watson can continue to evolve into the QB he’s currently becoming. His offense is built on the EP system.

Daboll appears to have learned how to translate the philosophy to the field.

Just something to consider

It helps me to understand if any one of us owned the Texans people here would be saying the same things.

It should be obvious from our conversations here we’ve all got our own ideas about how we would do things & we all believe our way is the right way.

But real life isn’t like that. Things very rarely work the way we want them to work, good intentions be damned. But we have to roll with the punches, separate the good from the bad & move on.

Whether we’re talking about the Packers, Cowboys, & Steelers winning Championships in the beginning, then going decades before winning again, or the Chiefs, Saints, & Patriots finally winning after 30 years... it’s best to enjoy the ride & remember the good times... even the seemingly insignificant ones.

No offense but this sounds like loser talk. I have been highly successful my entire business life. It's why I was able to retire at 50. So I'm not sure you're the person who needs to be lecturing me about what real life is like.

This is not difficult, you hire a proven leader with a track record of winning and being successful throughout their career. Check your ego at the door and then get the hell out of their way. Like Jerry Jones, Bob McNair could not check his ego at the door. Cal is lost and in over his head.

Put the leader in charge and burn the boardroom round table. I've already discussed at length how the most successful teams in the NFL had 1 leader who was the final decision maker, ie: Lombardi, Noll, Shula, Walsh, Johnson, Belichick, Schram, Davis, Wolf, Newsome and Thompson.

Through the end of the 70s, most of the 80s and 90s I was a season ticket holder with the Atlanta Falcons. Rankin Smith was the Falcons owner and John Mecom Jr. owner of the Saints was in the same division. I know bad NFL ownership, I studied them for 40 years. The McNairs operate their team in much the same manner as the Smith and Mecom did and as a result are getting similar results.

The best owner in sports was Clint Murchinson, he didn't even go to the games. Clint preferred to sit home in his living room and watch the games. Tex Schram had full control of the Cowboys. Murchison's laissez-faire attitude has been credited by many Cowboys fans as the driving force in the team's 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1966–1985 (including five Super Bowl appearances and including two Super Bowl championships). By leaving most football matters in the hands of the operations staff, Murchison did not create an atmosphere of second guessing and arguments over player selection or credit for the team's success.

You didn’t hear a word I said if you believe I’m talking about your life experience or mine.

Cowboys, Packers, Steelers we’re doing it right in the beginning. Then they each had long droughts, even though they demonstrated they knew how to win it all.

The Saints, Chiefs, Patriots demonstrated for 30 years they didn’t know how to win. Then Patriots have done it quite convincingly & are now realizing they have to start all over.

Bob McNair probably could have retired at 50. I’m pretty sure he brought a lot of practices with him that proved successful.

& now we’re rolling with the punches

Apparently you didn't read a word I wrote or you just didn't want to do the homework.

The Cowboys fell into disarray when Murchinson sold the Cowboys to Bum Bright and then to Jerry Jones who fired TEX SCHRAM.

The Packers initial success declined when LOMBARDI left to coach the Redskins. The Pack didn't return to winning until RON WOLF and later TED THOMPSON took over.

The Patriots got new ownership who hired BELICHICK and then got the hell out of his way. 6 SB.

Steelers, Teams of the 70s were franchise of the decade, next 12 years Noll only had 4 losing seasons and made playoffs 4 times before retiring. Cowher returned Steelers to SB and prominence.

The Saints hired SEAN PAYTON, in last 14 years Saints have had only 4 losing seasons, won division 7 times, made playoffs 8 times won SB once.

Chiefs hired ANDY REID, in 22 years as a HC Andy has had only 3 losing seasons, made the playoffs 16 times and won SB. In 8 years with KC has won division 5 times.

Your examples are perfect illustrations how one leader with complete control and final say without ownership interference or meddling have led to long term associations, winning and success. Also what happens to teams when they move away from proven leadership or get new egotistical owners. Thanks for helping me prove my point.

Yes Bob did bring a lot of practices with him which proved to be a downfall. Bob tried to run the Houston Texans like he did Cogen Technologies. Unfortunately those business practices didn't transfer to the X and Os of a National Football League team. Bob often said when something went wrong that it was unacceptable and he knew how to fix it. Unfortunately the Cogen business plan didn't succeed quite as well when applied to the Houston Texans. Bob never was able to understand this but it was all he knew. Bob thought he was the smartest man in room. At Cogen he was, in the NFL/Texans he wasn't.

My examples show even those who know went through droughts. Even though they knew how to, things don't always go as planned & you've got to roll with the punches.

Let's say your winning formula is right & they know your formula is right, so they set out to put it into practice.

The guy they thought was the guy, isn't the guy... well they can get rid of him & hope the next guy is the guy. Or they can hold on to him & hope he becomes the guy, rinse & repeat.

& that process continues for every decision from the man in charge to the equipment guy.
